Yeah, statement of controversial in-game and in-verse issues would be nice, but not something as obvious as:-

"Do you think jet griefers are bad?"

Yes

This and the Mr/Miss Los Santos threads got me thinking about a Governor of Los Santos thread. People enter their character, name their proposals and try and get themselves elected. They become Governor of LS, for a year and maybe get a forum medal or something.

Excellent, but it cannot just be some random bio, it has to be written like a satirical take on your own political ideals and favored party.

It better promote great writing skills and get complemented with proper professional photographs, not a beauty pageant.

Ok, I'll try to connect this election with the current real one. While everyone is drunk now on liberal tears that Crest has won the election, let me remind you, we anarcho-non-voters have not won anything. The only thing we have is an opportunity to take up some of the political vacuum. In order to do so, we have to criticize Crest just as hard as we did with everyone else before him. Once Crest f*cks up (and he will, like every president ever has before him), people will looking to who called him out. Do you want people to yet again look towards the left, this time even the extreme left? Do you want the governor after Crest to be Ché Guevara? Because the left is already doing all it can to make it so. Or do you want them to look to us?

I reckon we'd have to wait for the Mr LS to die down of course.

Damn, I voted for Mr. Crest.

I didn't actually think he'd win. Kind of regret it now.

I hope he wasn't serious about the picnic, skinny-dipping orgies.

Shall we take to the streets, wreck some small-time, local businesses and demand we don't want a governor who warrants picnic orgies?

If GTAO were to react the way people are reacting to the current US election, by which I mean protesting the result and wanting their collective butthurt to be felt by all, I can only imagine the K/D ratio spike that would happen. Perhaps, for the first time every in Los Santos, there wouldn't be enough cops to cover everything.

All in fiction, of course. :miranda:

I voted for Dom. Worst case scenario? He hates his job and decides to base jump with no parachute. Best case scenario? He likes his job and decides to base jump with no parachute.

It's a win for everyone, to be honest.

Add another weird thread to the counter, fw3. :p

@Arthur: I'm totally up for something like that. PBMO, a crew, stands for Paleto Bay's Mayor's Office. Self-appointed but now run The Bay. If you live in The Bay, chances are you know of them. They've made this insane community feel where people "own" businesses and have roles. It's pretty damn unique and cool if you haven't checked it out. That makes me think that sectors of the map could have their own mayors or representatives with an overall "President" of Los Santos, though his title would best fit as a Mayor (like New York City, for example). I'm not into political stuff at all to quite understand it all, though, but I know this forum would love stuff like that. What would be the perks of winning? Make special events? Parades?

I know very well of them, it's a brilliant idea; kudos to Psy. I have also thought of owning different districts, I can imagine that being very fun. I was considering electing myself as mayor of Mirror Park, however it's a ghost town with no properties and only one business you can enter. From what I know it's Governor/ Governess, I only know that because of Governor Schwarzenegger of California lol.

Perks of winning would be interesting to think about, I'm on the same lines as you, I was thinking about events to host, maybe the ability to elect players to the head of different districts? and in charge of different sectors: etc environmental preservation, city planning. Owning their own personal guard. The possibilities are endless which is the fun of it. I'd be more than willing to help organise it.

H'llo G'vnor! I'm all for it!

Definitely a big role play project but I can see those that enjoy RP loving the sh*t out of it. While I love RP I'd sure like to take a break from the spotlight for a bit. But the concept is simple to set up.

-Make sections in a post, each "map sector" gets a section.
-Hold week long poll for each sector with those signing up stating which sector they're running for.
-That can make Mirror Park easy wins due to being no one to run against (guy wins by no contest) and Sandy Shores, for example, having more people wanting to own it.
-Representatives can bring in laws they want for their sectors that they pass either to the Mayor or to the council, depending what kind of system you want to run.
-Hold events/lobbies and respect the laws. So say military vehicles are banned everywhere except Sandy Shores, people can fight there with tanks and jets (for example).
-Change Mayor/do voting each month (or two months).
-Have a hot secretary. I'm available.

Sounds similar to what I did back when I was in The Unborn MC, make laws and enforce them, host events and have a hierarchy giving certain members different roles in the club. Its not easy though, people always asking questions, dealing with other motorcycle clubs. Guess thats the hard part of being President but someone has to do it.

Weird how motorcycle clubs are made to "stick it to the man" but still follow the same hierarchy system of having delegates and a president. :p

What I was thinking of, which might be a bit easier to organise and control and for fools like me to understand.

There would be Gu'vnor elections which players would enter for; post their policies, name their plans, show their abilities. Eventually someone would win that after many transpiring decisions. The winner of that would be the Governor of Los Santos, they would then have full choice over representatives/ Mayors for the different districts, based on the players who entered the election for Governor of Los Santos, he may choose the mayors over their personality or judgements pertaining to their appropriate district.

Wow, even though we give the law and the government the finger, it does sound similar to what we did when we became multi chapters with a National President which in this case would be Governor and the other chapter Presidents would be Mayors.

ooo exciting times for the state of San Andreas!

just going to throw my $0.03 (im Canadian, it's the exchange) in here...

the Paleto Bay Mayors Office is successful because we are a small community, and by that I mean we all try to get along and have the same ideas about fun in GTA on a small portion of the map. the whole thing isn't solely my idea either (for the record) as I am the appointed guardian of the interests of the Paleto Bay residents (meaning you need to be a 'land-owner') to have some more fun with the game :)

our little style of town government works for us as we are a small slice of the map with properties often unused by a majority of players.

if an in-game/on-forum government is expected to succeed on such a wide scale it will be a tremendous undertaking... as you are talking state-wide governance, which I might add, may or may not be recognized as legitimate by the PBMO depending on the circumstances.... perhaps starting with the bourough mayorships is a good way to gauge reaction and once that is sucessful find a way to open it up to governor of the state.

the key thing tho, is you need to have this about the community and members and not the titles involved for it to work, in my humble opinion.

Psymin's right, it will be hard, when I co founded The Unborn MC with Stan we started off small then chose to split into 3 chapters Blaine County, Paleto Bay and Los Santos (I was Paleto Bay) when it became big. Its better to go small as members wanted something else such as the free aimers wanted wars and chaos then they're were members who was more interested in riding. we ended up splitting in half with the free aimers leaving and the members who wasn't that interested in wars remained. Too be honest I thought it was better off with less members aslong as the ones we have were loyal and would do anything to keep the club going. Governor, Mayor, President are fancy titles but I have seen people just become ass holes to members which their club didnt last long with members just leaving, you need to be respectful and remember you are nothing without your loyal members at your side.

That's the biggest issue here; having a government that's legitimized and recognized as almighty, disregarding previous political offices (or incorporating them) and ensuring that all who wish to join the roleplaying of a government adheres to the rules stated. Not only will that cause outer conflict with the forum groups that identify as governments of their own (PBMO, for example) but also inner conflict as strong decisions typically lead to strong opinions.

Wow, that's probably the smartest thing I'll ever type on this forum. Someone take a snap of it and copy it next to a snap of where I talk about dildos.

I couldn't agree more. Very strange, I'm reading all of these posts.... I mean, actually "reading" them. Strange, right? lol!! Cheers! :)

I like the ideas put forth here about all of this, but how would events and rules in regards to certain areas work since many of us are on different platforms, likely live in different parts of the world/don't game at the same time, etc? Essentially such a thing would have to take the form of a crew (similar to PBMO) and hope to take off from there.

Based on Arthur's initial post, I envisioned this more as just a contest similar to Mr/Ms Los Santos where each person running for governor of San Andreas writes a bio; presents photos/campaign posters; expresses their views, policies, and courses of action in regards to current issues and changes; etc. You could even have a debate among the finalists; someone could come up with a series of questions about their plans if they're elected, and in the end, users would vote for those who are projected to make the initial cut and later the finalists.

I like all of the ideas presented regardless, but a more simplistic approach might be better suited as a whole unless one is prepared to take on the challenge of leading a new crew and making this thing a permanent fixture.

Just my thoughts, but it should be a lot of fun! :). Also, forgive me if I'm not reading all of this right--a lack of sleep will do that to you. :p

Their initial campaign catchphrase should be satire, as tradition for the spirit that GTA has for every political reference it makes, but it should be based on the following:-

* Mandatory minimum of 10 contestants, 5 Republicans and 5 Democrats. Those running for other parties can join the Election and don't have a minimum of members but they have a maximum of 2 per party, like two Independents and two Libertarian.

* The first stage sees which Democratic/Republican member is good enough to be endorsed by their respective parties, it all depends on presentation and less on good looks.

* The second stage has the Democrats and Republicans asked questions related to in-game issues and how they will improve the state in different segments, Segment 1 for Republicans and Segment 2 for Democrats. The member with the least amount of errors and contradictions, most amount of grounded answers to in-game issues without sounding like a lunatic, and highest amount of Like approvals wins their segment and faces off against the other endorsed elect.

* The third stage has the Republican and Democrat nominees answering questions asked by judges and Forum members approved by said judges, both members have to answer the same questions with honesty and we can't move on to the next question if one of the members still didn't answer the current one. I suggest we have 15-20 specific questions, half related to in-game issues and the other half for the state and its citizens.

Hey Liberals of Los Santos, its Blaine County's fault you had to endure a brain damaged ex stuntman known as Jock Cranley as Governor.

( This is satire and is not intended to be taken seriously haha)
