Well done.

The 2011-2013 pre-release propaganda that made the game look better and more ambitious than it is created such an incredible hype that the game was sold 70 million times...

Since it sold that much they could have made a dlc for SP fans just to please them, as a thank you to the fans. But no, lets just ignore the fans who made us what we are today.

That is quite an achievement.

Well, V doesn't interest me as much as the previous copies, there were some cool missions.

Congrats to Rockstar. It shows that despite this forum a lot of people like the game.

That's no indication of good taste, though. Same goes to other best seller movies or games, it's not about the quality of the product, but rather the hype that is created and surrounds it. Or do you think rehashes, mediocre and bad games like Mafia 3, Minecraft Story Mode Battlefield, COD, sell so many units per very year because they're groundbreaking games?

GTA V is by no means a terrible game, that's for sure. But as a GTA game, it is very disappointing and underwhelming for fans that had good expectations of the pre-release hype, as NumaYay said.

But well, congrats. Seeing as the GTA Online formula worked so well for them, there goes my expectations of a high quality single player campaign with updates and additional content for GTA VI.

The title of the article says, "GTA 5 Ships 70 Million Copies, as GTA Online Continues to Grow"

Its because of Online that the title continues to sell, not necessarily because of "SP fans", plain and simple!

As a thank you they will try to please Online fans, as they have been doing all along. So, I don't think they need to please SP fans, in return, as a favour. Yup, its pretty sad but that's how it is. Its best not to expect anything and move on to other games like Mafia III, Watch Dogs 2, which are really cool and a lot of fun!!!

And yet no story DLC. Logic.

R* logic that is. The only sh*t they ever do is online DLC's for V. Nothing else regarding SP.

Each year a few million more kids get old enough to spend their accumulated allowance on GTAV/GTA0, resulting in a continuous long tail of sales, plus all that "recurrent consumer spending." Sounds like TTWO will never need to make another GTA game.

They may skip the rest of this console generation. I was looking forward to GTA9: PANO LA

I am talking about GTA in as a whole series. Pre GTA5 every GTA was bought for the single player. Rather than just abandon all the people who likes to play SP and makes them angry, why not give them what they want even if it doesn't have anything to do with GTAO. Fans wouldn't have complained and many wouldn't be worried about their new games being online focused. Like what happened to RDR. I don't speak for everyone as a whole but that's how I feel. I would have defended their Online based focus had they just shown they care about SP fans, but as of now I won't buy a R* game until its out, used and cheap.

Pre GTA5 every GTA was bought for the single player. Rather than just abandon all the people who likes to play SP and makes them angry, why not give them what they want even if it doesn't have anything to do with GTAO.

Because thats how it is. Rockstar is naturally more interested in bringing a good multiplayer experience to GTA.

If they could have achieved something like Online in the past, then many players would still buy GTA without seeing it as "SP being abandoned" issue because the demand for multiplayer was always there, but the hardware and technical support for the same wasn't. The single player in Vice city or San Andreas, and VCS or LCS wouldn't be the same experience like we've had through in the past, and discussion like this would never have taken place either.

So, Online had to happen eventually..

It started in 2008 with GTA IV that made the series transition to HD, and the foundation for Online was laid out. As RAGE became powerful with every part of the game being improved and refined, the multiplayer mode also continued to grow, and finally in 2013 became a separate experience altogether as Online!

While GTA IV did focus more on the single player side of the series, let's not forget how much content was dropped ( for whatever reasons ) as well. Its not like every thing was better for SP even before GTA 5. Even after buying EFLC, the overall experience still felt weaker in many areas compared to 3D GTA's, which offered much more gameplay and variety in content for the price of one, that's still not adequately replaced in GTA V. I still remember how people used to encourage others to try multiplayer for making up the lacking ( and boring ) Single player experience in GTA IV, as if the story, graphics and physics became so important for many they used to underestimate the potential for improving a number of things which were missing / dropped in SP, and now when Rockstar was ready to expand the most popular multiplayer experiences of GTA IV and RDR with GTA V because of those same people who used to have fun playing back then, are now leading the discussions about Rockstar abandoning SP after defending the same Rockstar for many things lacking in GTA IV SP while enjoying the multiplayer without any complaints coming from them?

The SP hasn't changed much in GTA 5 over GTA IV. It still has the same amount of content and gameplay to offer over GTA IV, if not much. The only thing missing is a separate DLC, but they are already offering much more than EFLC through free-to-play multiplayer mode, and bringing them more revenue in microtransactions because millions of players are emjoying the same, too!

It gives them no reason to feel like they are "abandoning" any body, otherwise why would they make so much money out of Online.

People are having fun in Online, and their numbers are so big that they are equally ready for having same experience in RDR 2.

So, blame those who were defending for the lack of many things in SP back in 2008 by recommending multiplayer to stop complaining about "abandoning SP" during GTA IV.

You can't point fingers at Rockstar when its us, the players, who made multiplayer such a success in the first place.

Rockstar is doing what they are supposed to do.

In fact, I find many players who are complaining about the SP DLC for GTA V, are also enjoying Online at the same time, thus indirectly supporting it, too. They haven't boycotted Online completely, because they still want to stick with multiplayer and not completely with SP.

That's why, as I said earlier, its best to move on to other SP franchises instead of getting upset about not getting any DLC.

Nice observation. With IV they were desperate to win back the fans after the backlash hence we got not one but two dlcs.

Now they're swimming around in money and know that Online is popular, so they don't care about the SP.

They can do both without sacrificing one or the another, just like IV and RDR. Just because they give us more content than EFLC doesn't make it any better. I and many people tried to play online but it just doesn't work. Loading screens, people leaving all the time, server issues, etc. It just don't work as good as offline. I would rather they make something that I can play how I want without the whole headach. If they wanted solo players to play online then they are doing it wrong because you can't play alone.

"While GTA IV did focus more on the single player side of the series, let's not forget how much content was dropped ( for whatever reasons ) as well. Even after buying EFLC, the overall experience still felt weaker in many areas compared to 3D GTA's, which offered much more gameplay and variety in content for the price of one, that's still not adequately replaced in GTA V."

The reason for that is that they wanted quality instead of quanity. It was also the first GTA on an HD console. Most of the things that were in 3 era would take much work. GTA pre 5 was much more satisfying. LCS for example was barebones compared to SA and to some extent IV. However 5 doesn't, the game is full of plot holes, thing that are there for "satire" which wasn't even good compared to their past games, and the games story felt like they got bored and just wanted to wrap it up (the ending).

" I still remember how people used to encourage others to try multiplayer for making up the lacking ( and boring ) Single player experience in GTA IV, as if the story, graphics and physics became so important for many they used to underestimate the potential for improving a number of things which were missing / dropped in SP, and now when Rockstar was ready to expand the most popular multiplayer experiences of GTA IV and RDR with GTA V because of those same people who used to have fun playing back then, are now leading the discussions about Rockstar abandoning SP after defending the same Rockstar for many things lacking in GTA IV SP while enjoying the multiplayer without any complaints coming from them?"

So what you are telling me is that people who liked IV are the reason SP is abanded? I am pretty sure the people who liked IV and the past GTA's are the ones who hates the MP focus. IV MP was fun, it was simple fun. The SP wasn't sacrificed for the MP as you say. Same for RDR, both IV and RDR had a good storyline and good SP dlc. Sure there are people who didn't like them as much but compared to 5 they are masterpiece. The characters were serious and not stereotypes. There was enough missions for the storyline to feel complete. In GTA5 the game just throws stereotypes of the american culture at the player expecting them to laugh and agree with them. How many women in the game are normal? The only one I could see as normal is the mobs daughter in the random even. RDR and IV however had many good female characters that are not a stereotype. Karen, Packie's sister, Faustins wife, Abigail and Bonnie and that's scratching the surface.

The MP and Single Player felt complete when compared to 5 which just abandons SP.

"In fact, I find many players who are complaining about the SP DLC for GTA V, are also enjoying Online at the same time, thus indirectly supporting it, too. They haven't boycotted Online completely, because they still want to stick with multiplayer and not completely with SP."

Why do you think that is? Many enjoy the MP aswell but that doesn't mean they wouldn't have played the SP if it was good. GTA Online can be fun but you would be wrong to say that they wouldn't play SP dlc if it comes. Before 5 was out I and many friends wanted to play Online because IV and RDR was fun online. Its only after it came that we left online and now we don't even play the SP because its just not good. All the random things and small details are gone. Police aresting peds, the physics, all of that is gone. There is a reason many people played IV for 5 years. If it sucked As you say then nobody would play it.

"So, blame those who were defending for the lack of many things in SP back in 2008 by recommending multiplayer to stop complaining about "abandoning SP" during GTA IV."

I don't remember people defending IV because of the MP. Infact I remember people claiming that the multiplayer sucked compared to SA MP. So no those that you wanted to blame are not to be blamed for R* poor SP.

Release 0 story DLC for a game that sells 70 million.

Rockstar we salute your stupidity.

They sold 45 million more copies of this game than IV - and more than 40 million more copies of this game than any other GTA game.

If you make the not unreasonable assumption that the big difference with V is the quality of the Online experience, and that it's Online that has persuaded tens of millions of gamers to buy this game when they haven't bought a GTA title before, then it's not stupid at all for Rockstar to focus on improving and fixing that rather than SP. Especially when you factor in how poor sales of EFLC were.

I have no interest in Online, only SP. But I realise that from a financial standpoint, online rather than SP DLC was the right move for Rockstar.

From a financial standpoint, the right move would have been to have both online and SP DLC. There's no way that SP DLC wouldn't have made a profit.

Mafia III isn't a mediocre title. The criticisms for Mafia III reflect the hypocrisy and double standards of bashing every game that isn't a Rockstar title. The ridiculously high scores given to mediocre titles like GTA IV are an indication of bad tastes, not Mafia III which is a lot better in comparison.

It might have a phenomenal cast, setting, atmosphere and soundtrack, but the problem is, it lacks solid gameplay like Lost Heaven and Mafia 2 have.

I absolutely love those two games, and I was just as hyped as anyone else would be. But the closer we got to release, and the more I knew barely any people from the 2K Czech team had any hand in 3, and specially no Daniel Vávra's superb writting, the more I realised it was not a real Mafia game. It's branded as one, sure, but just because Hangar 13 knew it'd sell more if it had a character from a beloved last gen game and a strong IP name. I'm already offtopic enough so I'll stop this discussion here. Feel free to continue via PM or direct reference me in a Mafia 3 thread or something, though.

Congrats to Rockstar. It shows that despite this forum a lot of people like the game.

I certainly like the V a lot more now that I'm using a range of great mods to give myself the best SP experience customised to my own personal preferences.

But I'm gonna congratulate myself for getting up and doing something about V's weak SP and improving the situation by getting a gaming PC and using mods. And I'm gonna give special thanks to the mod creators out there. So funnily enough, I'm not congratulating Rockstar for reasons why I like the game more.

Now I have V on PC, I never even gonna so much as sniff at online MP, let alone have a quick spin.

Hey Osho how is Watch Dogs 2? Seeing as you've played it. Mafia 3 ended up as expected; rubbish.

I've had Mafia III recommended to me, but it just don't really draw me in man. The fact that it's set in 1960s didn't appeal to me for starters. I'd rather play in-modded V in current-gen over Mafia III.

70 Million is quite an achievement and regardless of so many fans complaining about the lack of a SP DLC, Rockstar is still pretty strong with their games. But a simple thanking in form of a SP DLC would be the last thing everyone here would want.
