mde2
Rant thread for PC:MR So I recently upgraded my PC into a beast, a beast that just so happens to run on Windows 10 (for futureproofing and monetary reasons; if I had it any other way I would have gone with windows 7). But why in hell is it such a task for the game to run on Windows 10? I tried installing the retail version of GTA IV and EFLC and to my surprise there was an activation software that had been sneakily planted into the software, I don't remember this ever being in the game but whatever I tried activating the game, I did everything correctly, in fact the software even told me that I had activated it (side note, this software isn't RSC, it's something else, can't remember the name). Anyway, I sit in anticipation waiting to play some GTA:IV, oh whats this? The activation menu popped up again. Rinse and repeat this for like 4 times. So I say to myself, "there has to be a way to bypass this". To my satisfaction there was, and I tried it and yay, it worked, now the RSC menu has popped up. Oh a black CMD box flashed quickly? That is odd, but nonetheless I patiently wait. 5 minutes later and...nothing, not a thing, nil, 0. I try again and it repeats, so now I have to find a way around this issue. I find one on YouTube and I am greeted by the familiar icons and the music, but one thing is off, the resolution. I go straight into the menu and nothing is working. I try THREE different fixes and nothing. So I uninstall it and I go to try and purchase it via steam to skip some hassle and oh no - the game is f*cking up on there too, and it is because of GFWL. So you know what? f*ck it, time to shelf this amazing game. Inb4 "Oh there is a warning saying it doesn't work on Windows 10". Yes. Well they also said that about the 3D era GTAs and a plethora of other old games and they work fine so cut me some slack. Don't misconstrue this, I love GTA IV but for f*ck sake R* really f*cked up with GFWL, it wasn't good from the start and this is the long term affect of a sh*tty third party social service, like, why couldn't R* have integrated RSC with IV? Clearly they did for the most part by why not fully? Why was Microsoft's hand up GTA IV PC editions ass. Any fixes would be appreciated. RogerWho
That is the nature of DRM. Sadly, people don't give a damn until it stops working and game companies still keep shoving this sh*t down everyone's throat. I don't accept any kind of DRM on my PC anymore and that includes all that online malware - or "services" as they want us to call them like Steam, Uplay and Origin. It's nothing but a next generation of SecuROM and StarForce that wants to take over the user's computer and leave them hanging when it stops working. BTW while SecuROM can be dealt with on most games quite easily, unfortunately in case of GTA IV it's never quite done. So when I used to play my disc copy of IV, I either had to deal with DRM sh*t or listen to a retarded loud tune on every startup (and that is W7, I'm not even sure if that'd work on 10). Oh yea and the GfWL... Another wonderful thing. Edited November 1, 2016 by RogerWho
Sunrise Driver
If you don't care for MP, use XLiveLess. Disables Live (and Social Club if I remember correctly). Also for SecuROM offline activations: https://support.securom.com/pop_gtaiv.html Edited November 2, 2016 by Street Mix PhillBellic
