I change the MTU on my PS4. The minimum number is something like 572. I keep it 1 above the minimum and it keeps others away 99% of the time.

What were you using to lag out the session? I've tried xLag but it just comes up saying connection to the session has been lost.

Lol, nothing at all. It does that in most sessions I get in. That or an unknown network error.

If it's giving you trouble, you could try a load of 4kHD youtube videos to lag it out. These days I don't need anything to help it do that though.

I've tried to play 4K videos before but never get lagged out since my internet speed is quite fast, lag switches just give me a unknown network error.

Get at&t internet

As a former AT&T user, I'd say Joe might be right.

Their U-Verse is garbage. The same performance as DSL, at least where I live. (Semi-rural)

Gnocchi Flip Flops

Super easy on the PS4. Reset MTU. You can even do it while the game is running, it'll switch you to a new session immediately. Change MTU to 600. Then back to 1500 when you're done.

This will cycle the router temporarily cutting the signal. That's really all any of the options mentioned (aside from lag switches) do.

I have that at work where we have no alternative. 2.5 down, .675 up... on a good day. They had to re-string the wire from the street three times.

You peoples are working too hard at this.

Step 1: Stand up and walk over to your router.

Step 2: Unplug the ethernet cord from your router to your modem and count to 5.

Step 3: Plug it back in.

Step 4: Walk back over to your seat and enjoy an empty server

If people join, repeat.

Worked a treat thanks, though I found I needed to keep the cable unplugged for nearer 7-10 seconds.

on PS4 all you have to do is set you date forward/back a month, screen will freeze, wait 10-20seconds, see player left, player left, player left... change date back, good to go!

All I need to do is snap an app on the xb1, wait 5-10 seconds and unsnap. GTA is the only game I have that freezes when I do this, but it works every time.

This used to work, but since yesterday it looks like it always kicks me out of GTA Online I don't know why but this is happening. Damn it.

Exactly, this is the by far easiest for PS4 but most seems to completely ignore it in these types of threads...

It works 2 out of 3 times, the 3rd time it closes down the game but all you have to do is restart and do it again.

No changing "complicated" connectivity settings which would also be a pain if you would actually like to free roam in a session with others in it or do a heist or mission. With the "date fix" all you have to do is find a new session if you want it.

I'm on PS4, an this is the easiest way I know of. While in the lobby you want, go to the dashboard, settings, date/time. Change the month to one month ahead, go back to the game, you'll be froze in place, stay put for a few seconds, back to date/time, click set by internet, back to game. Everyone but you are leaving. Now it's a solo public session

My bad, Now I see someone already said it

For me on PS4 it works 80% of the time, and it goes like this:

-I listen to music from my flash drive (mp3 works to)

-hit the PS button and go to the media player

-then I get a notification that the game will be suspended

-go back to the game

-it will say you lost connection or something like that, point is it will find you a new session, empty session

solo public sessions are gold for me now, and I try stay in them for as long as possible by watching the TV to avoid idling. After a good few hours though I get the message that I've been kicked by other players... this has happened twice now when there were no other players for hours.

Lobby jumping seems fruitful, if there is only a couple of other players I'll message them to see if we're cool and every time we've just got on with our own business.

All the players leaving at once used to be frequent but is rare now for me.

Well the way to do it on the PC version is really easy using Windows Firewall with Advanced Security but I can't help too much here as it's Xbox One.

For consoles, i bet many routers are able to create custom rules for their firewalls to block the ports, which should behave the same as blocking them on the windows firewall.

I've been getting the same message but only when other players join. If I'm on my own then it's good for as long as someone else tries and joins. I thought it was other players voting to kick me but I can't find that option anywhere.

What I did:

1. Registers as a VIP/CEO

2. Go on your Yacht

3. Start Piracy Prevention

4. Get in your hot-tub

5. Disconnect the DSL cable from your modem

6. Wait for the "everyone left" message to appear

7. 30k profit

I got a friend who's almost always alone in a session. So I just join his session.

I used to be able to perform this on my PC-ethernet plug with a great resultrate of about 80%... After the release of the new bikes this week it's increasingly more difficult to lag myself out. Not to say impossible with my old method (Disconnect plug, count to 7 and reconnect).. "Connection lost to unknown error"... Every time... They definitely changed something there... I have an alternate method taht involves USB-disconnecting my external sound card, but its success-rate is much lower... And when it goes wrong, I have to restart GTA... But on the other hand, when succesful the othe rplayers stay away... The previous method, if for some good fortune successful, Always fill us up faster than you can lag out... Unbelievably fast these days...

Like some mentioned already, the MC-stuff can't be sold (solo) in public session. Those delivery vehicles are so damn slow, especially the postal delivery (what a frigging piece of nerf wrecking BS). CEO-crate collecting no problem, but MC resupplies.. no thx...And for selling; I can only 100% sell with one delivery method and that's with the four motorcycle deliveries that start of with a first bogus delivery where the police is waiting for you, before you can start with the real four deliveries... All the other sales, I just immediately count in the loss of 1/3 of 420k when I'm doing it solo... I used to be pissed about it, nowadays I immediately count in that loss, before even starting it up.. If I'm Lucky I obtain the 420K, but more often than not, I end up with around 300K... When the postal vans appear, I lag out.. I ain't doing them solo, as I want to destroy my screen/PC after 30mins of this slow speed (uphill) torture... Without any doubt one of the most hated parts (on my behalf) of GTA-online...

I pull the cord from my modem, count to 25-ish, plug it back in. Within 30 seconds I'm solo. If you cant sell full solo then adapt. I always sell 1-1.5 bars of product, get one vehicle, Made 1 mil this morning in a few hours with almost no real effort. Basically just steal between 2-3 bars of supply, never more. It's stupidly easy and profits pretty damn quick with 3+ running businesses.

  • 1 month later...

Just get in touch with my ISP. My down only goes to 0.5mb/s on a good day. Almost always get put alone, and if I do get in with more than one person, they get booted. Juuuust enough power to be connected to the Internet, and not much more.

My special trick is connecting an ethernet cord to my router and when I am in a session I plug the other end into my Xbox One. The process of switching from a wireless connection to a wired one disrupts the session just enough to put me into my own session with an extremely high success rate.

On PS4 I've done it 3 ways:

Solo lobbies friends can join:

-change date, return to game, wait 5-7 seconds, change date back

-unplug coaxial from the router for a split second. Unplug it too long and the game boots back to single player due to no Internet connection

Solo lobbies almost no one can join:

-change MTU to 572

I usually download movies in the background so I can benefit in and outside of GTA :)

That being said I already have a pretty bad connection and a DL speed of 500kb/s on a good day...

on PS4: While in session, change your date to 1 month ahead of what it currently is, go back into GTA app, wait 30 seconds, (the screen will freeze) then set your date back, go back into the GTA app and you're good to go.

The first time i ever tried it crashed my game. we'll see how it goes the second time...

Crashed me again ya bastards.
