Quick question about combat roll and PC

While playing GTA 5 on PC in a free aim lobby, (i assume thats what im always playing in because thats what its set to)

Is there any point to combat rolling while in a fire fight ?

i can see the uses it still has, you can roll out of the way of cars and stuff but other then the small things you can use it for, is it pretty much useless ? or even detrimental to do in a lobby full of free aimers :)

I think it makes it harder to hit your target's head, at least that's my expierence when the enemy is doing the roll.

I prefer to just strafe randomly. With aim assist rolling breaks the enemy's lock on but since we play free aim I don't see the point. Also you can't shoot while rolling and I can hit rolling players with not much trouble.

I think you're right with it being detrimental.

Didn't know that (I also play in free aim sessions). But I do have trouble to hit the head, and for me that's critical when my enemy can escape a quick relief, otherwise I'm almost dead already^^. It's also somewhat irritating for me as I can't tell instantly if s/he's rolling to the left or to the right. I like it more when my enemy runs back and forth, I just have to follow the target's head horizontally. Anyway, I have some problems with that combat roll. I rarely use it myself, though.

Yep, it's pretty useless during firefights in free aim.

It's deadly in the hands of someone skilled in free aim- while they are rolling and you are adjusting your aim to "guess" where their head will pop up, they are lining their cursor up with your head and have the advantage. Granted they can't shoot while they are rolling, but the cursor is still movable. Most skilled players will kill you after a roll (head shot). Best to roll right after them and attempt to do the same thing.

its possible to end up in aim assisted lobby with free aim, not sure about reverse since I dont ever fight/grief on foot

1. while in free aim lobby, accept heist invite from aim assisted player, accept aim assist change, if heist lobby is full, you get dropped in assisted lobby after cloud simulator

2. while in assisted lobby from previous step, accept heist invite from freeaim player, accept free aim change but quit from heist lobby, now your aim changes to freeaim but you are still in the same aim assisted lobby

the change aim type on invite then back out and revert to original works on and off between updates, some update it works, some update it gets broken, this game is a poorly coded disaster

but you can just shoot them as they roll around, IMO it's only useful if you're rolling behind solid cover.

Effective up close, ineffective at range.

(My ps4 montage, I roll quite a lot)

A roll takes 1 second- unless you are anticipating it, that's very difficult to adjust your aim so quickly. Besides, You'll be shooting at their curled up body while your head is being lined up. Every player I have ran into who are PvP/RnG fanatics use the roll technique in Free Aim. If anything, they roll OUT of cover to catch you off guard. Rolling is not useless in Free Aim.

EDIT: Look at the video above this posted by Damned- he demonstrates what I've been saying perfectly. He rolls OUT of cover, and is always lining up for heads shots. His opponents are not aiming at his roll- the less experienced stay strafing and die, while the smart ones attempt to roll after Damned to get a head shot of their own (unfortunately for them, he is able to roll once more and get his off lol).

Yeah most of my kills are at close to mid range, rolling at long distance will get you killed and it's often a battle of who has stronger connection than simply aiming skill.

Good to see some discussion on here about free aim.

Check my youtube channel for some more videos about free aim. I don't by any means see myself as good, but just want to encourage more to take up free aim as it's so much better.

that's what I meant by rolling behind solid cover, I probably should have said "in and out" of solid cover. Anyways, I always assumed it was useless after getting killed multiple times as I rolled, I guess I don't have the technique down as well as others so thanks for pointing out the video I missed it before. I'll practice that for sure. Edited by FlacidJack
