Player mentality

They can't combat roll, or are generally nerve ridden try-hards who are so focused on getting one kill over you that they will stoop as low as possible to get any bit of an "advantage". Understand that these people also probably stub their toes on the same table in their houses frequently and will not make Natural Selection's job of thinning out the undesirables any more difficult.

I fight them almost every session I get into with my friends when we're just grinding money, very rare that they will simply shoot it out without first calling 3 other idiots to dance about before engaging. If they do engage solo they'll be killing themselves and shooting rockets every time they take a hit. The only thing these people have mastered is the memorizing of menu patterns to spam whatever cheap tactic they're currently using, which is akin to them remembering exactly how many knuckles deep they can fist themselves into serenity.

Don't fret, they leave very quickly when the odds are turned and when they do leave, add them as a friend and they will block you 90% of the time. They are the white-face painted, BP helmet wearing and BST pumping frag kiddies, here only because of R*'s feeble attempts to "balance" multiplayer. My suggestion would be to make some heavy hitting friends who have the patience to deal with these sorts or just avoid them as soon as you them going passive, let them believe they've won and then acknowledge exactly how stupid that actually sounds.

Post of the year. I don't think I've ever cosigned any post this emphatically...

I'm not worried about how to avoid it, I can go passive myself if I want to, leave the season or just drive away. I just wonder why people bother, that's all. Just seems such a waste of their own time.

Not to over-simplify, but some people are just dicks man. Both in and out of GTAO...

99% of the game community are a bunch of d#cks. Has been from day one.

Team up with a crew of friends or play solo.

Just do not be surprised if you get shot in the back after a heist.

This isn't a bitch topic.

Yes it is.

No it isn't.

Not going to argue about that, however i can tell you what it isn't, a praise and glorifie thread.

Also using off radar or passive mode isn't cheating. Its using the options this game offers you. If you don't use them, you are simply giving yourself a handicap. Which is fine if you want to handicap youself, just don't expect others to handicap themselfs for your personal preference.

Among the worst for me are CEO's. Killed this one CEO cause he had a bounty on him, it was all business, killed him once and left him be after that. He for some reason decided to make it personal and he always tried to kill me the same way. By spawning a buzzard next to him, going off radar, and trying to blow me up. Did not work well for him though cause each time I seen that symbol a player is off radar I searched for cover to protect myself from the helicopter and shoot him down when the opportunity presented itself.

The funniest moment though is that one time I hid under this bridge, he knew what I was going to do cause I killed him the same way a few times before. He slammed into a telephone pole and jumped out in midair, sadly for him though when he face planted onto the pavement after the jump I was there to greet him with an assault shotgun.

The things many people do are cheap but if you keep your wits about you, you will always be one step ahead. They may be cheap but their greatest weakness is that they're predictable. Its easy to beat them if you know what they're going to do before even they do. Take jet griefers for example, a very large number of them go passive if their jet is shot down. While I cannot attack them directly I can annoy the sh*t out of them by blowing up their jets at their spawn points.

I can tell where their jet has spawned based on the direction they're going, there is only a handful of spawn points and its easy to predict where it is based on where that player is going.

The best advice I can give is that when facing such a player always make them fight on your terms. If things are not how you want them to be then set things up so that they are.

Passive mode was just meant to be used if the player does not want to be bothered or has to step away from the controller for a bit without some douche repeatedly killing your avatar whilst you're gone or to stop being griefed like being spawn killed in a jet. However most abuse the mechanic to make themselves unkillable during their most vulnerable moments and only turn it back off when things are in their favor again. Fighting in this fashion is not very sportsman like. You're taking a mechanic and abuse it in a fashion not intended by the developers. They call it passive mode for a reason.

What it all boils down to is that:

*The human race's sole trait is lying, lying to themselves and others. All of society and human progress has only been possible due to this.

*Humans will always drift towards the path of least resistance. More gain for less work. 'No one should have to work so hard to gain so much'

*And thus the base human instinct is to climb over others to get to the top, that means taking the cheapest most pathetic path to get the desired result.

Hence jet griefers, people who will kick you when you're down, kill you when you turn your back. Or come and chase you like an idiot even though you just drove past them and could easily have taken them down yourself. I don't even.

I don't really know what the mentality is of these people who cheat or troll. Maybe cheater are just too lazy to learn to play the game to be able to beat other players. Maybe trolls have an awful life in the real world and feel like they get treated badly. They can't stand up for themselves and so want to cause other people grief who they have no chance of encountering in real life. There are lots of possible reasons you could come up with but none of them would be positive about the player. So I pity them, to be honest. But I rob them of any satisfaction from me because I just ignore them and move on. If a modder teleports next to me and kills me then I don't crave revenge. I just find another session and ignore them because they mean nothing to me.

This isn't a bitch topic, but actually kind of interested in the mentality of people who want to 'win' by cheating and/or exploiting mechanics.

It applies generally to jet griefers and the like, but an incident that happened today got me thinking about it.

I Killed a player with a bounty, he decided to come after me, couldn't get me while on radar, so went ghost, killed me a couple of times, so I went ghost also. When he came out of ghost (before I did, obviously) he immediately went passive until I came out of ghost then went off radar. Basically he will only fight me when he's invisible and I'm not, so I left the session.

I really don't 'get' this sort of thing. If you win by essentially cheating, what's the pay off? Is it specific personality types that do this I wonder? Am I the weird one for finding it weird?

It genuinely confuses me.

This is normal behavior. Sometimes when people kill you with a bounty on, you don't mind it, "eh, whatever", sometimes it really pisses you off, "how dares he" and the such.

It really depends on your mental state at that point, which is random. I know there are trolls who do these kinds of things to draw pleasure from someones despair, but in this case i think you just stumbled upon a random joe who just wasn't in the mood of being killed. On most other days he might have just said "eh, whatever", summoned his PV and drove the other way, but not this time.

And i can relate to him, someone killed him and it pissed him off and he just can't have that bullsh*t, he's gotta come out on top of the situation or else hes gonna feel that irritation for some time and he needs to "save his already sh*tty day from getting sh*ttier" so he tries his best to ensure an advantage, he can't afford to lose, that will only make that unpleasant feeling he's having worse, he can't have that, he's gotta "even things up"

When people are cranky, they get irritated more easily, and they tend to center themselves and see only their side of things as the victim or the righteous avenger. In another state of mind he might have given more credit to the fact that the bounty is there to encourage people to engage and that's just part of the game, and there's nothing wrong with that, but when he's already cranky, it becomes like a tunnel-vision "who does he think he is" sort of attitude, and he gets fixated on syncing his surrounding environment to his version of how things should be, i.e "I got messed with by this nobody, who does he think he is? no one messes with me! im ME! ill show him!".

Success means he keeps his pride, his e-peen doesn't shrink, he gets to swing around the "yeah bltch that'll teach ya" attitude and it negates the bump in his rough enough day and he can go on with his business calmly. Might even improve his day.

Failure on the other hand will give an overkill effect to his sense of "life is unfair to me" and may result in anger and bitterness towards everyone he plays with next, assuming he hadn't rage-quit and took it to other places.

I hove i helped you understand said mentality a little better. (by no means am i claiming this is what happened, this is simply my speculation, as it could have been a million other things)
