Player mentality

This isn't a bitch topic, but actually kind of interested in the mentality of people who want to 'win' by cheating and/or exploiting mechanics.

It applies generally to jet griefers and the like, but an incident that happened today got me thinking about it.

I Killed a player with a bounty, he decided to come after me, couldn't get me while on radar, so went ghost, killed me a couple of times, so I went ghost also. When he came out of ghost (before I did, obviously) he immediately went passive until I came out of ghost then went off radar. Basically he will only fight me when he's invisible and I'm not, so I left the session.

I really don't 'get' this sort of thing. If you win by essentially cheating, what's the pay off? Is it specific personality types that do this I wonder? Am I the weird one for finding it weird?

It genuinely confuses me.

Threads that start like that so often are ... Just saying.

I would guess because they know it p*sses people off. Basically trolls, but less creative than trolls who play it by the book.

Edit: No offense to trolls. Trolling can be lovely and playful, and pretty honourable if done under the right circumstances/to the right people.

The reason I started by saying I'm not bitching is because I'm really not, I'm just asking a question. As you say, trolling can be completely legitimate in a game like this, but trolling and cheating/exploiting aren't the same thing. I just wonder where the satisfaction comes from.

Knowing they've made you angry - they find it funny. I'm not saying that to troll myself, but that's honestly it, simple as it is.

99% of people in this game are huge c*nts, that's it really.

Alternatively this.

I don't know

i remember 3 players that tried to gangbang me, but when 2 of them were getting their jets the other guy was alone fighting me and he was so bad that after i killed him a few times he started to suicide until his friends raped me with their jets

1. I think you actually "do" get this sort of thing. Some players are simply not that good and will resort to the weakest methods available to level the playing field for them, including Passive, Off Radar, and my favorite, waiting an hour before striking (while you're engaged with other players). I call it BB Boy Tactics.

2. The "pay off" is satisfaction in being in full control of your reaction and ability to engage them. It's a control thing, I think.

3. While I'm no therapist, I can surmise that there may be specific personality classes that tend to react this way, moreso than others; however, I think it's more of a desperado reaction of someone who simply needs to feel in control of the situation, whether in real life or virtual. It can be very distressing for some people to be abused in a game with no direct recourse back (or lack of skill to fight back). Using the BB Boy Tactics is a way to relieve that anxiety and "get back at the aggressor."

4. Yes, you are the weird one for finding it weird to ask other weird one's if it's weird that you're a weird one.

Just my thoughts. :)

In fact, I was thinking of making a thread similar to this

I was going to ask every person who was being a dick or trying to kill me for no reason "Why?"

I actually did it today, although all the previous texts I screen shotted I deleted.

This specimen attempted to shoot my luxor down for no reason:

Some people just really hate getting killed by a random in free roam.

He probably feels like you wronged him by killing him the first time and he wants to either even the score or teach you a lesson by killing you back more times than you killed him.

He kept going off the radar and going passive to stop you from killing him. He would probably see that as losing.

Well, he's a f*cking pussy who can't stand his own ground.

When I come across a asshole doing that to me, I call them out on it, and make sure they know it.

The fact that you signal out jet griefers and the like makes this a bitching thread. You lost all credibility with the first paragraph.

I had something similar with a jet. He blew up an associate. So I got my jet and scared him enough to jump out of his jet. He immediately retired as a CEO and went passive. I jumped out the jet and offered a one on one but he just drove off in passive and got another jet.

I have no problem with losing any battle on the game. I try to make it as fair as possible yet some players just want any win by any means necessary. I can't really fault them for that mentality.

Passive mode needs a rework. I don't understand how a player can go passive after killing me. I should be able to get revenge ×2 before they can enter passive again.

I'm assuming players do this for the lols. It's funny to them and all that matters is getting more kills on you than you get on them. That's the way I sees it. Also if you have a mic they want a reaction.

What I don't get are the ones that literally cheat for kills, I'm talking God mode/completely invisible/wall breaches/teleporting that sort of stuff, what's the f*cking point and why are you even playing. There is no satisfaction without challenge. What's the point of killing if you can't be killed where the f*ck is the fun in that.

(As for jets they are not a problem for me and off radar is more of an inconvenience to me than anything but Passive(as a battle tactic)/EWO(as a battle tactic)/God mode/invisibility/wall breaches.. what's the f*cking point.)

dont see how jet griefin or using any other game given tools is cheating...

i'd call it cheating if you could only get a jet in the game by actually modding the game or if a player could only go off radar via glitching, but thats not the case, both jets and off radar/ghost org are legit tools that are available to anyone.

Modders, cheaters,..in the beggining it pissed me off sometimes, but if thats what it takes for them to be good and gives satisfaction when they know they have all those advantages, well its pretty sad. Go play tetris if you cant handle the game realy.

About trolling, if you come across troll, then return the favour and troll him back.

That said, more than half of players are dicks, one way or the other. But after 3 years, everyone should know that and adjust their skill to face these said dicks.

All in all to all the cheaters and modders and trollers; there is a great great saying; I dont care and you look stupid.

*kills me many times*

*decided to retaliate and kill griefer*

*gets a message calling me a cheating f*****' p**** *

*proceeds to vote kick me and whines about me having my PSN message disabled for random players*

*told him to get good at this game, and then I switch session*

*ponders how people like him get this far in life*

*also remembered why I stay at invite only session*

To be honest, I wouldn't call getting into a jet and flying it cheating or exploiting the game mechanics.

What a lot of people do abuse is the 1v1 to get a jet quick and easy.

I've had a few good ground to air moments. My most memorable moment being the time I got a jet pilot with my Pistol .50

I agree that jets can be a pain in the ass sometimes, but I tell you that... I do love a Man vs Jet every once in a while :D

People typically aren't cheating, or even really gaming the system.

The PVP is sh*t, and has a series of strong metagames that are easily played, typically with no real counter.

People play to win by any means, regardless of how unfair or embarrassing. They're just making sure they win using the easiest methods possible.

I got into a fight with some rando biker the other day because he shot my friend down for no reason after rolling into the little spot where we were hanging out down by the storm drain. He went ghost while I was fighting him, and I was still gunning him down. When I decided to also go ghost, he popped himself repeatedly, taking the easy way out over and over until my timer ran out. The joke was on him, however, as I was up on kills and realized he was just going to do that until the timer ran out. His bike got impounded in the mess, and when I was finally back on radar, I was halfway across the map, buying clothes.

Plenty of people use passive mode to simply avoid getting into fights that they want no part of. It's used for that far more often than it is abused.

People who usually do that are scared that they'll get plummeted to death, so they stay invisible until they catch you off guard to pop you. Then they feel like a badass because they got you, but in reality they're just a pussy.

if i feel like killing you, i would kill you even if i have to fly to paleto bay and pay12k to be off radar, if thats what it take to get the kill i want, so be it!

Put a bounty on him so he can't go passive. When he goes off radar, put some distance between you and him. With a little patience he's gonna be the first to leave the session.

I think with the abilities that the game offers now .. we try our best to take that advantage regardless of the situation, what's right or wrong, what's fair or not unless either you or your opponent just says f*ckIT and go on with your day.

DarkSavageDeathlyCloud

well their general justification seems to be because playing the overall game is boring but having money and buying stuff is fun

further about script kids, i guess it is just because they want to make other people mad or cant take a loss.

And about abusers of game mechanics like you came across...ugh...well what is abuse in this game in the first place ? if i lost a euro for every time on old gen i commited suicide because some asshole was getting on to me and i was low on health, i probably would lose thousands of euros.

Also none of the above things would be a thing if rockstar balanced payouts, ip banned everyone with mod menus, had dedicated servers, ect....

They can't combat roll, or are generally nerve ridden try-hards who are so focused on getting one kill over you that they will stoop as low as possible to get any bit of an "advantage". Understand that these people also probably stub their toes on the same table in their houses frequently and will not make Natural Selection's job of thinning out the undesirables any more difficult.

I fight them almost every session I get into with my friends when we're just grinding money, very rare that they will simply shoot it out without first calling 3 other idiots to dance about before engaging. If they do engage solo they'll be killing themselves and shooting rockets every time they take a hit. The only thing these people have mastered is the memorizing of menu patterns to spam whatever cheap tactic they're currently using, which is akin to them remembering exactly how many knuckles deep they can fist themselves into serenity with.

Don't fret, they leave very quickly when the odds are turned and when they do leave, add them as a friend and they will block you 90% of the time. They are the white-face painted, BP helmet wearing and BST pumping frag kiddies, here only because of R*'s feeble attempts to "balance" multiplayer. My suggestion would be to make some heavy hitting friends who have the patience to deal with these sorts or just avoid them as soon as you see them going passive, let them believe they've won and then acknowledge exactly how stupid that actually sounds.
