Question regarding spaces sometimes seen in player name-tags.

Every so often I'll see screenshots and/or video of GTA Online where some of the name-tags over player avatars clearly contain a space between two words. I was under the impression that all names being shown in-game are pulled from the Rockstar Social Club accounts, which (as far as I can tell) does not allow the use of spaces when creating an account name for the Rockstar Social Club.

Can anyone explain how this is possible/done? I ask because I would totally prefer to have my character show up in-game with a first and last name (which requires a space) if this is actually possible (and it seems to be).

Here are some screenshots as examples:

The name above their head is their PSN or Gamertag or Steam ID.

Has nothing to do with Socialclub.

This^ plus Xbox IDs are allowed to have spaces, not sure about PC, and those of us who play on PS4 cannot have PSN IDs with spaces.

Are you sure? Everything I've read indicates the Steam ID is ignored and the names are taken straight from the Social Club.

etc.

This also usually comes up in discussions asking "what is the point" of giving characters a name during character creation, since they aren't used anywhere - the actual name displayed to other players being their Rockstar Social Club handle.

Example:

In fact, name change requests posted on Rockstar's support site (specifically the GTA Online subforum) usually result in instructions on changing your Rockstar Social Club handle (which can only be changed once per year).

I did ask around and it does appear that for PC users, the name is indeed their Socialclub name. So idk.

every modern trainer for pc allows you to change your name. it will still show the actual name though if you try to see their profile. what you provided as proof, though, comes from xbox and you can have spaces in your name there.
