Unless they dramatically fix the lag issue, something that will never happen without a ground up rebuild of the game and hosting system, dedicated online hand to hand fighting will never work.

 

I cant count how many times ive attempted a melee fight only to hear 6 rappid succession punch effects from my opponent before my health drains 100% instantly and i die mid swing.

OT: I'd be down with some new fighting moves, but players vs player is a bad idea. Melee in online is already bad enough with the lag going on. It wouldn't be fair fights, just a bunch of frustration.

How long ago was that though? And they're incredibly weak too - both literally (in terms of armour) and in terms of functions (no flares, missile jammer, auto-stabilization holding them down, short range weapons, inability to aim, etc. etc. etc.).

Anyway, like I said, I can get behind the idea. I just don't think it's the only thing that's been neglected.

I think we could use some more special moves. Like... spinning bird kicks! I'm sure a lot of helicopter enthusiasts would love that one! Or.. .hadoukens sos some people can run to the back of their screen and shoot fireballs endlessly and call it "zoning".

 

But in all seriousness, this looks quite well thought out (although what to do when someone just pulls out their shotgun or Danceman Rifle?). I guess the fighting styles would have their own pros and cons, though the ones with the fastest speed would probably be the go to one unles there's a mechanic preventing spam.

 

Another problem would be the whole lack of dedicated servers thing. We all know what happens when someone with a crap connection turns up.

The melee combat is hilariously bad. Its probably the only thing about the game that looks unintentionally funny. I dont really want them to waste time on something that has such a weak foundation.

 

I would MUCH rather have them invest that time into gambling. I want to be able to make some cash without having to constantly run back and forth and completing jobs. Like racing, I can see it becoming one of the strongest parts of the GTAO. I'm actually surprised it hasnt made it into the game yet, esp. after how good it was in RDR mp.

Not sure whats up with the formatting. It looks fine on my PC. It may have something to do with the spoiler tags Im using. I edited the post and redid the spoiler tags so lets see if that works.

An over enthusiastic, steroid infused, MMA instructor would fit perfectly into GTA to do some missions for. And a strange old man teaching karate would be fantastic.

Thanks for the compliments. As for someone pulling out a shotgun or rifle, not sure why that matters unless you plan to walk up to everyone you see expecting a fist fight. I would just say there is a time and place for this. Death matches, missions or even player made events where everyone agrees to fight.

Also, to those who bring up the lag, that argument has no weight as its based on the assumption R* will just layer all of this on the current system and not make any changes or fixes.

With the crappy servers and lag you ccan't even play tennis with someone. Do you really think that fighting would work? No. Not at all.

 

But, I would really like a Project Mayhem style set of missions. Play as a space monkey or a Tyler. Missions could be really fun and inventive. Very little profit gain, just mayhem caused. You could reintroduce Weasel News to listen for reports on your antics.
