How about a Fight Club DLC?

R* has done something for just about every aspect of the game EXCEPT fighting. Previous GTAs had better mele systems so I'm not sure why they took a step backwards with this game. Regardless, I think its about time to update the fighting system and a Fight Club DLC would be the perfect way to do it. I've taken the time to come up with a way using things (mechanics, logics, etc) that are already in the game so this doesnt require a complete ovehaul by R*. Anyway, on with the show.

INTRODUCTION

It starts with you getting a call from Gerald. He asks if you like to fight and if so stop by his place when you can for the details. A "G" will then pop up on the map. Go there whenever youre ready to get started. Once there Gerald will get in your car and tell you to go to a location. A white fist icon will then pop up on the map showing you where to go. When you arrive there will be a crowd surrounding a fight. A man raises the winners arm and asks the crowd "who else wants to try their luck?" Gerald shouts "My boy right here does!"  Simply go in and beat the guy up. :p

After your introduction fight, Gerald will praise you for winning and give you a cut of his winnings or ridicule you for losing and give you nothing. Either way he'll then tell you to drop him off at home and to call him whenever you want another fight. When you do call him an option titled "Request Fight" will then be available.  Eventually Gerald will send you a text saying he's impressed (or disappointed if you lost) and suggests you visit a fight gym (more on gyms below) and improve your skills because the competition is only going to get tougher.

THE TYPE OF FIGHTS

* Street level - These are fights against NPCs and take place in freemode. To trigger them you call Gerald and request a fight.  A white fist icon will then pop up on the map in a random location. Go there and you'll see a guy waiting in a fight area (he may be alone or surrounded by spectators). Simply enter the fight area, beat the guy up and get paid. The more you win the more difficult the next opponent will be. The more difficult the opponent the more money you get if you win.  In addition R* could make something similar to Business Battles but for fighting. At random times a Gold fist icon will blink on the map in a random place giving players an opportunity to compete for Premium Race type cash or benefits towards your gym.

 * Pro level - These are fights against other players and must be hosted through a job carona or from your gym (more on gyms below).  Possibly a new Adversary Mode?  Anyway the way these fights will work is two fighters are placed in fight area while the rest watch.  Once the fight is over two more are placed in the area to fight and so on until everyone has fought. Just like any other job there will be options for different rules to fight under which are...

 1) Last man standing - You lose once and you're out. The game will keep matching up the winners until all but one has been eliminated.
2) Set number of wins - First person to a set number of wins.  The game will keep matching up the winners until the number of wins is reached.
3) Time limit - Gain as many wins as you can.  Whoever has the most wins when the time runs out is the winner.

BASIC MELE COMMANDS

COMMAND COMPARISON (while holding left trigger)

COMMANDS = CURRENT / MY SUGGESTION
Left Trigger = Fight stance/Lock on / Fight stance/Lock on
X = Dodge / Block

Y = Unassigned / Push
A = Kick / Groin Kick
B = Punch / Punch
Right Trigger = Punch / Special Moves modifier

As you can see its basically the same as the current controls. The difference is that the right trigger will be used for special moves (more on this in the SPECIAL MOVES & COMBOS spoiler below) and the dodge will be replaced with a block (more on this in the FIGHTING META spoiler below).  Also,  turning the Y button which doesn't do anything atm into the push animation which is already in the game.  This doesn't seem difficult to impliment and it will make the overall fighting experience much better. Now on to the SPECIAL MOVES & COMBOS.

SPECIAL MOVES & COMBOS

SPECIAL MOVES - These are executed by holding the right trigger (while in your fight stance) then pressing a face button. Basically the same exact concept as mele on bikes (hold A and press left or right bumper). Since the right trigger is basically a duplicate command (does the same thing as B) while in your fight stance it wouldnt be a problem to give it its own purpose which is to make it a special move modifier (serve the same purpose as A for bike mele).  Here are some examples of special moves...

While in your fight stance/locked on
* right trigger + X = dodge

* right trigger + Y = grab (facing the enemy = grab their colar, behind the enemy = human shield)
* right trigger + A = kick to the head
* right trigger + B = headbutt

There will be many more moves you can aquire but you can only have 4 active since you only have 4 face buttons. What I mean by "active" is like the actions in your interaction menu. You have a bunch of actions but only one is active at a time. R* could do the same for special moves by giving them their own category in the interactive menu like they did with dancing.

COMBOS - This is when you execute multiple strikes in a row within one attack. An example of that in the game now is when you dodge a punch and counter with 3 punches. Except in this case,  combos can be executed at will instead of only after a dodge and by choice instead of the same 3 punch combo for everyone.  Using my suggested command scheme above these are the  combos...

While holding left trigger (fight stance/lock on)
* B, B = left jab, right cross
* B, B, B = left jab, right cross, left hook
* B, B, A = left jab, right cross, left kick
* B, A = left jab, right kick

Not really complex but more than we have now.  The most importantly part is we will have control over what we do which would provide diversity in attacks so all fights don't look exactly the same. When you factor in special strikes and countering after a dodge theres a possibility for even more combos.

NOTE: All special moves and combos must be aquired by buying/completing a lesson at a gym (more on gyms below).

FIGHTING META

OK now lets talk about how the actual fighting will go down. Currently the games fighting meta (way to fight) is either dash punch, dash punch, etc until you KO them or wait until they punch then dodge/counter. This isn't good enough. 1st,  R* needs to scrap the dash punch altogether or make it only a special move that CANT be spammed. 2nd,  the defense needs to be more difficult and lastly,  the offense needs more diversity in strikes and stradegy in attacks.

DEFENSE - As of now you just hold X and wait for the counter. This requires no skill and makes the fights boring. I think a good way to add difficulty and diverse action is to make the default defense a block and the dodge a special move.  Then make it so normal moves can only be blocked and special moves can only be dodged. So for example if someone throws a normal strike like a jab you must use the default block but if someone throws a special move like a headkick you must use a dodge. This way people have to actually choose the correct defense instead of being able to safely sit on the dodge waiting to counter.

OFFENSE - Going off the above we know the defense cant dodge normal moves and they cant block special moves. So the stradegy is to hit them with a special move when they're trying to block or hit them with a normal move while their trying to dodge.  An example would be to use normal moves to set up your special moves (ie. throw normal attacks multiple times to get them use to blocking then follow with a special move).

STAMINA - This is already in the game but doesnt have a big impact on fighting. I think it should. In other words, make all strikes/moves cost stamina.  The bigger the strike/move the mosre stamina you lose.  The lower your stamina the slower you move, the more damage you take and less damage you inflict. To regenerate your stamina you must take short breaks after your actions. This means simply spamming away in a fight is NOT a good idea thus adding an additional stradegy to the fighting.

FIGHT GYMS

Like CEO,  MC and most recently Nightclubs,  we can purchase a building and turn it into a fight gym.  Imo R* can use the same exact model as the nightclubs as far as allowing us to customize the interior,  charge ppl to come in,  get missions for it,  etc.  Except instead of dancing we'll have practice fighting and instead of drinking we'll have fight minigames. To earn moves you just pay for and then complete the minigames in the gym.  Also,  just like DJs we could hire trainers to come to our gym.  Each trainer would come with different moves to earn.  I suggest at least 3 types of trainers...

* Boxing
~ teaches special punches (ie. haymaker)
~ teaches combos involving punches
~ teaches the ability to dodge strikes

* Muay Thai
~ teaches special kicks (ie. head kick)
~ teaches combos involving elbows and knees
~ teaches the ability to counter into a grab (head clinch)

* Wrestling
~ teaches special grabs (ie. suplex)
~ teaches ground and pound punch combos
~ teaches the ability to counter into a takedown

As you can see each trainer comes with his/her own specific special moves and combos that you can learn for your character. Its possible to earn every move available but again like actions only the ones you have active will be available. This will create diversity in styles amongst the players so everyone isnt the exact same like now.  Also,  gives a reason to visit another players gym.  For example,  you may have a boxing coach at your gym but want to learn wrestling without buying the wrestling trainer.  Go to a player's gym who has a wrestling coach and do the minigames.  The catch is it will cost to learn moves from someone elses gym.

WHAT WOULD COME WITH THIS DLC

Some people have already shot down this idea because they believe R* wont do it because they cant encourage shark card sales from this. Well here you go...

* Gyms - buy a warehouse and turn it into a gym

* Trainers - choose from multiple trainers who each teach their own moves

* Clothes - boxing shorts, boxing robes, Karate Gi, mauy thai shorts, wrestling uniforms, etc

* Hats - boxing headgear, wrestling headgear, etc
* Shoes - boxing shoes, wrestling shoes, etc
* Gloves - boxing gloves, MMA gloves, fist wraps, etc
* Mele weapons - more brass knuckles, glass glued on fist wraps like Bloodsport, steel fist gloves,  etc
* Fight moves - basically all the moves that are in the game that are rarely ever triggered and more
* Fight combos - jab-cross, jab-kick, etc
* Fight themed tattoos - boxing gloves, brass knuckles, sayings, etc
* Fight themed haircuts - maybe not fight themed but this is definately an opportunity to add more hairstyles
* Fight themed jewelry - chain emblems like boxing gloves, brass knuckles, etc

...and I'm sure there are more I havent thought of yet that could be included in this.

EXAMPLES OF POSSIBLE FIGHT CLUB ARENAS -

What do you guys think? Its literally a collection of systems and commands already present in the game so its not like this is far fetched. I think this would be awesome and definately breath some new life into the game. It could even become a trend like car meets. thoughts?

New fighting moves? Count me in! I personally wouldn't buy a gym for my male character, but for my female character, she would sure as sh*t learn some badass moves! :D

I don't think we're supposed to talk about fight club... :p

Honestly though, it would be an interesting addition and you definitely have some good ideas and interesting concepts. However, melee is often such a laggy mess within this game; I'd hope that would be fully sorted first and foremost.

Honestly they don't really need to add this much for me to be happy. If they add a better combat system for melee weapons or for firsts that would be great!

Triggered. You can guess why.

But yeah, why not? Could be fun.

The current fight moves are sh*t. I always get my ass handed during the Tequila-la-la resupply mission.

I support this greatly! New and enhanced melee combat, new "off the radar" options would be great aswell! :D

There was meant to be a fight club in the game like in TBoGT, but it was scrapped from the final version stupidly.

With the stupid mechanics we got, thank god it was removed

If the fighting mechanics aren't reworked (they won't be) it will be superficial trash. It would be a welcome addition but GTA has never had deep hand to hand and I don't expect it would be programmed well.

Try spamming block. It works against weapons also. I can beat down the lost once i figured out this lil trick.

Wait, you can block? I'm trying that next time.

My current strategy is to hit everyone at the same time until they fall. And run like hell when I collect the package.

The bullshark testosterone helps.

Honestly, I don't see it as priority right now, but we may like it (remember that, our suggestions=/=work done by R*).

I'd like to add that, me (and probably a lot here) miss the old academies on GTA San Andreas, where you could build your body and learn new tatics, and new arts, like Boxe or Kung Fu.

I would love some kind of Fight Club DLC! PvP fights, PvNPC, etc. Cage fights against either players one-on-one or in team, then perhaps some kind of fighting survival mode where you're trapped in a cage and loads of NPC:s come in, possibly/probably armed, much like the Tequi-La-La bar fight during biker work.

oh sh*t the thread format is totally broken haha

anyway, i'd welcome a gta IV style, fight club as long as im allowed to bet some good money on fights.

npc vs npc fights

player vs npc fights

player vs player fights

people should be able to spectate and bet large sums of money, maybe up to a million, the current 10k betting cap doesnt make any sense.

Christ no, I don't think there's a way for them to overcome the way that player-to-player lag makes online melee such a sh*tty experience. All it takes is for the other guy to have a slightly higher ping than me and I know I'm about to have a bad time.

An over enthusiastic, steroid infused, MMA instructor would fit perfectly into GTA to do some missions for. And a strange old man teaching karate would be fantastic.

I'd love to see something like this.

His name is Robert Paulson.

Srsly tho the melee combat in online is so mundane and laggy and sh*tty.... this dlc would never work unless the rewrote so much code regarding melee combat and synchronization.
