Why don't Bounties clear straight away?

When you kill a player with a bounty, they have to first re-spawn then a few seconds later the skull icon is removed and you get paid.

 

There aren't many other mechanics in the game that wok this slowly, so why does this one? It can be quite frustrating if they leave the game after getting killed or when you are looking for the next bounty to kill and they are still appearing with one.

Because rockstar sucks and hates you.

My guess it has something to do with the billion dollar bounties that were a thing at one point. I'm really not sure if that's the real reason or just because rockstar made a change that inadvertently creates a delay in payment. I remember a time when it was almost instant.. and that was before the billion bounties from my experience.

 

Also could be just bugs in some instances because I've had a few where I had to kill the guy multiple times before I got paid... also lag.

I remember it used to work like clockwork but then an update messed with the map icons and that caused the lag, but I can't remember it.

The free mode events addition messed up/delayed all alerts. CEO made it slightly longer because most work counts as freemide events like bounties.

I don't know, but sometimes I'm awarded the money RIGHT after I kill them..... other times it takes a minute and by then somebody else ends up getting to claim it, or the guy got butthurt and left so I get jack.

There was a money glitch involving bounties, blame the fellow cheaters

It used to be instant, like for 2 years straight after GTA Online's launch. An update in 2016 f*cked it up. Probably to check if the money you will get is below 9000. There were some major problems back in the day with modded money and bounties.
