Do you manage to get anything done in public sessions?

Hey folks,

Well for me, personally, I don't. I have the feeling pub sessions are counter-productive, there is no incentive to play for constructive gameplay. Nobody ever joins MC's or Organizations, everyone just creates their own and sits around in their corner. If dots meet on the minimap the only way they're able to communicate is through gunfire, inorganic boring deathmatch ensues. Seems to be the only thing people do in open districts, shoot, respawn & shoot, in that specific order. PvP is one of the least developed (worst) features in V, it has so many other things to offer, yet nobody gets above this game feature and gets caught in a vicious circle.

I don't have a very large group of friends in this game, so sometimes I seek more populated districts for more action, but it's the wrong type of action, people seem to be braindead and unable to interact over pew-pewing. As for now, I'll be back in 'private' public sessions with my few friends only, the cash inflow is big, and no one gives trouble. Yet, I want to spend more time in public and give it a chance, but before I do so, I'll need some tips & advice.

Certainly, this forum has members who spend most of their time in public sessions and still earn a lot of money. I want to know from these people, what are the main activities you can efficiently pursue? What is the best way to deal with other players, socially and psychologically? How do you communicate with people effectively? Do have your own free-roam survival guide?

Ultimately, are big numbers of players together in a game session a burden rather than potential for 'the-more-the-merrier' type of fun? Maybe you also get caught up in free-roam deathmatches, but you don't mind, because you have other expectations from a game. Let me know!

Greetings,

Alex.

Hi Alex!

I often go into a public session with all intentions of "getting things done."

Typically, I start off okay, but it doesn't take long before engagement takes place and I am redirected into a revenge kill.
Other times, there will be a lobby event, like "Longest Wheelie" which I simply can't resist and will stop my directive to take part in.

As for how/what I do, well, to make money I do everything: missions, heists, races, parachuting, lobby events, Simeon cars, etc.
I don't do Deathmatches, though. Not my interest.

As for other players and dealing with them, I play offense and defense, sometimes being the fox and other times being the hound.
It's all based on what is presented in the realm at the time I go in. Entering a session should never have a prescription, for me.

Overall, I get things done, but in my own time and way. I don't put undue pressure on myself to fulfill any obscure obligations.
I look at it like walking into the local mall: I may need to buy new underpants, but end up buying ice cream, batteries, a hat, and some toenail clippers.

Cheers and stay well!

If I'm grinding there's nothing you can do to divert my attention. I won't chase you if you kill me. I won't waste 20 minutes going back and forth on kills. You got me...good job, so have 1000 other players. My friends don't understand this and often get dragged into long battles until I remind them what we were initially doing. Time is money to me.

I can do something as simple as a supply run or a VIP mission in freeroam easily in populated sessions, but if it's something as big as a business or warehouse sale then definitely not.

People follow you and your blinking red blip the moment it appears on the map, they'll drop everything they're doing just to ruin your day even if you're all the way in the middle of the desert.

If I want to make money, I desync a lobby, and it's usually just me, some friends, and maybe a couple randos if I can get them to text back signs of a truce.

Beyond that, the only thing I get done is shooting people who own marksman rifles and getting my Enduro caught on rooftops.

When they're empty, which is all the time now.

Goes without saying that you can't really do it with a jet around, unless you have friend to ground them and keep them down.

Ha, I have just made pretty much the same observation in response to someone ranting in the B&M thread. :)

There isnt much skill required in auto-aim combat, free-aim isnt much better with people spamming rockets and other OP weapons.

It really only takes 2 half-skilled jet pilots to completely own a full lobby because the other 28 players are so paranoid of each other they'll tend to kill someone trying to help instead of teaming up to take down a hostile jet.

And then ofcourse theres the floating heads, wall breaches and all the other things that are mentioned all to often. Good thing modded accounts are having their money taken away though LOL

* People always resort to sniping you from a roof

* You get a rocket fired at you if you use cover to your advantage

* Proximity mines thrown everywhere just to make sure you don't get an easy revenge kill on them

* Ammo is purchasable from interaction menu, infinite rockets and sticky bombs

* HL is useless against jets despite being its supposed counter, but very effective against everything else

I'll make my post unnecessarily long if I add more points, but just because you don't have any issue with a certain problem it doesn't mean you're allowed to be smug about people who actually have it.

I'm saying this as a guy who likes PvP btw, I just hate it whenever the player I'm against resorts to extremely cheap tactics and invisible outfits.

I get nervous if I leave passive mode, so I don't do anything that requires me to leave passive mode.

Guess this post is for people who play on Xbox or PS since on PC, game is much different jets are not OP at all usually die pretty fast,

marksman is easily beatable by heavy if you don't aim like a 2 year old and public lobbies are actually quite a lot of fun.

I rarely play in a private session just call my friends to join a public and let the fun begin.

I sell warehouses/businesses do CEO work, freeroam events you name it.

As far as the people don't join MC/CEO that has not been my experience,

communication is easy.

I am really starting to think that GTA with k+m and with joystick is a totally different game.

desync a lobby? can somebody explain this. as I understand it, desync in a game is where there is a time delay in the things that the host can see and all the other players see. but "i desync a lobby" sounds fishy.

Combat rolls make it the worst pvp since the jumping kneelers of Counter strike. Because jumping while kneeling makes your gun fire more accurately right??

Just like infinite combat rolling makes you a better pvper in this game. And jets, dont forget jets make this games pvp even more moronic forcing you to play Ace Combat or leave the session.

Its horribly unbalanced.

Hi Alex,

I find it best to session hop until you find an empty or peaceful lobby.

Once in an empty lobby, I do CEO work, photo shoots & whatnot ... If someone joins my session, I text him\her to establish a truce. Works most of time :)

I know players who are amazing at PVP that can easily pin point all the unabalanced.. broken and abused aspects of pvp. As can anyone one else by simply comparing the pvp aspects of this game with any other pvp game.

I mean really.. sniper wiggling. bullshark. jets..auto aim. And that just took a few seconds to bring up.

Being good has nothing to do with the reality of it.

I find it quite easy to get killed and then spawn killed in free roam, no other game mode offers quite the same ease of use when it comes to bringing my K/D down as well as helping others get it up.

Other than that, I find passive mode and stunt jumps are quite doable.

Outside of that, I prefer to stay well away from any public lobby with player count greater than 1 - unless everyone else in the lobby is a trusted friend. If I can't get such a lobby, invite only it is.

I manage to do some MC missions but tbh, as soon as someone attacks me, I put Net Limiter on to get rid of problems. I feel like being a coward doing so, but I really don't want to waste anything. Then I usually do those things alone because when I use Net Limiter, everyones's out anyway.

It seems there's no "friendly" fun in public lobbies. It's a consequence of the economy system R* chose I guess.

I only get sh*t done if I manage to get some f*cking help.

Most people seem to go "lol f u" and start their own MC right after you mass invite the lobby to see who joins :/

And then there are those players who don't join.... and just do jack but I guarantee they will mess with you even though they could have been paid to help, cause they're asswhipes

Main things I manage to get done in public sessions are:

  • completing time trials
  • dailies that require me to kill/mug other player
  • getting weapon tints on rambo-noobs and afkers
  • reporting obvious cheaters, fooling myself that someone will handle them at some point

If private-public lobbies (after setting up a firewall) count aswell, then some crate runs obviously.

yesterday I moved two garbage trucks with coke outside of Paleto Bay and into Los Santos. There were a total of 5 people hanging out in Los Santos and one of them were showing up red on the map. Not one person bothered me during my 14 minute trip.

I'd suggest joining the GTAF crew or going to player/friend request thread. There's usually a decent group who'll help you out or just play around with you. My crew and I have been having a great time lately with the update (we even learned to appreciate motorcycles). Between daily objectives or doing CEO/MC crate/resupply and sales missions, it's an easy hour or more of keeping busy.

PM if you're on PS4 op, just playing with some cool headed people can change the overbearingly negative environment some forum members love to thrive on.

Example

I have fiber and an app from my isp where just changing a broadband setting leaves me alone in a previously full lobby. It looks like everyone left but I'm just splitting the session.
