This might be a weird one. I'm not a fan of GTA5 for a few reasons relating to the story and some of the gameplay aspects. But I want to be, There's great gameplay but many things I can't get over. Tl;dr I'm trying to come at things from a different angle after a discussion in a comment section on one of my videos and will be playing the game again while posting vlogs and analysis...es on my (hopeful) conversion to a fan. I'm hoping things will eventually click and I get into it, so I figure why not ask here: give me sh*t to do. GTA's always had some great self imposed challenges or minigames, who else but to ask about that than the fansite? Going in with an open mind so give me your best/worst.

I've always blamed a lack of focus. Three characters split up is fine, but it runs into the problem of not solidifying anyone too well (except Trevor who doesn't really need much depth). That and the cops are f*cking savage this time around. Even in GTA4 you stood a chance if you were crazy enough, but this one makes it so hard to go on a rampage and escape or even hold your own. That and... I dunno, it feels like there's just something missing. GTA4 was great, RDR was great, this one should be the same on paper but... it's just not.

Still going to go through and post the videos as a sort of experiment to at least analyze the problems more closely, but I'm optimistic. There still is a lot to love, I'm just not 100% i'll be able to get past the issues I have.

well compared to IV, V is just boring. don't get me wrong it's a good game, but it's empty. if it wasn't for searching 3D models for modding, i think i would never play that game. i found something interesting recently though. i try to find rare vehicles and complete the 100%. there are quite a bunch of eastern eggs that can get you hooked for a moment. for ewample, i recently discovered there was a werewolf in game (no joke). that made me think there could be some hidden interesting things to discover. but sadly i can't play that game more than 2 hours in a row. after that delay, a deep feeling of being bored wins me. a simple hotdog could raise my morale up, but well..

Yeah, there was what, like a full five minute travel time where you do nothing and just drive to get to Los Santos with Trevor? The map is massive and there's a ton of stuff including the story but it feels half empty and half bloated if that makes sense. GTA4 was great because of Niko, a smaller denser map and better pacing.

if you already finished the game, and you want more "challenges", you can always try to replay every mission and find the quickest or craziest or unthinkable way to finish it (or to break it), even using cheats for once (since you already beat the game, who cares).

GTA V has been accused to be more "rigid" than other GTA games in the missions... try to break the game and you could give a different perspective

Well, if you are on PC there are some mods you can install, take a look at the modding section of this forum, great stuff there.

Now if you are on console, then you can do the following:

-On free roam, press and hold "down" on the D-pad;

-Using your analog stick, push it down to switch to the space between Michael and Trevir and under Franklin;

-Press X when the prompt asks you if you want to join Online;

-Enjoy the sh*t ton of content that is available to Online and also SHOULD be available to singleplayer, but is not.

(You can also try the director mode, but there's only some new stuff you can do before getting bored)

Hello there. I'll start with the very first GTA I ever saw, and that would be the very first one that by today's standards would be very mundane. My son at the time was about 7 years old and had been ringing my ears for a year and a half about getting the PS1. He got it and it kept him out of my hair.then came the request for GTA.I got it and I got for him not know what it was all about. After checking it out I was very impressed not by graphics, but by the theme and tone of the games. I knew these upstarts called Rockstar were here to stay. Since then, I honestly seek out the GTA releases mostly to see what they did that's new. And now, goofing off online is about the only way I get to spend time with my boys anymore since they are grown and live on the other side of the country. Sorry, enough with the drivel. Now the advice,

In story mode, I would seek out all the stunt jumps, Rob all the stores and cause mischief in general. Can't say for sure, but those cops you speak of will be on you after the first one. Then I would seek out the cops and pick fights. I do agree the NPC cops are agressive, extreally agressive, but as stupid as they are in any other GTA game. If you really want to rack up a good kill count against SAPD and just about any other civil service that responds in game just rob a convenient store that has a back room doorway facing the entrance to the street and you can hold them off for hours or until your ammo holds out. You will likely die when you try and escape. If you want to survive the shoot out then head over by Franklin house to that subway tunnel entrance. When you get there look for an NPC in a yellow bandanna and shoot'em. Red dots will appear all over your HUD and the fun starts. Drive a small car far enough under the entrance and park so front bumper is on one track, rear on the other for cover. Cops will pour over the sides but they run right at you while you mow them down. When you are about out of ammo, or want to quit just run deeper into the tunnel and hold still until your wanted level goes down.

That aside, no one will ever convince you ti like anything ever. You either will, or wont. For my part, I don't like vedio games. Aside from my Atari days this is the only one I have or still play. Just get with some good friends and do the online some to break up the story mode some. My online name is the same as my user name here. If your online ever head up to Palit Bay and hit me up. You can come blow up crap and mule drugs and ou territory money with me and my boys for a bit. May e we can convince ya.

I don't get it why people can't look into single player happenings and stuff more deeply, create some activities with stuff you are given or use the functions of some side activities for more stuff that it is intended for, they aren't that restricted as you may think!

pedinhuh, If you didn't know then most of people don't use ps3 and therefore online on console is for really rich people, it's not only single payment but 4th of the salary every month or even more per year!

I hated the game when I first played it. Went back and played it because I had no other games left. Been playing it ever since.

Currently on my 8th or so, complete playthroughs of story mode.

Just get it on PC, and if you have it already either way, just use the mods. The mods will give you a much better SP experience.

Not everyone is rich enough to get a good gaming PC and buy the game and download mods it costs a lot of money to buy all the stuff for it and not everyone knows how to build there own keep that in mind when you say that and think that isn't always an option

Interesting to see there were so many people who aren't fans or didn't like it at first either. The reason I'm trying is I can see there is great stuff just beyond what I can't get past, like a delicious snickers behind the glass of a vending machine. 4 will always be my favorite though.

Haven't finished the game but in my quest so far I've actually found a few things to challenge myself on like completing entire missions without a gun that was... interesting, or essentially making myself throw the rules of the game out and "find my own fun" in different ways. That and coming at the story a different way (looking at it as a story of three people instead of three connected stories) is actually making things more engaging than before. I look back and that sh*t was half the fun of playing 4, when me and a friend were just coming up with stupid ideas like attempting to survive a skyscraper drop by biking off the top. The crazy/stupid/really bad ideas are breaking the monotony of "drive>mission>freedom>switch character>drive>mission" etc. So I think I might be onto something here because I definitely wasn't enjoying it like this the first go.

I actually have a gaming PC and used to play quite a bit, but some kind of eye issue happened and It's difficult to play for long periods now (I think it's astigmatism but IDK). either way It's now the work PC. I'm not one of the hardcore PC guys anyway so while mods and increased framerates/resolution/effects/everything would be nice it's not a massive loss to me. That and I like to not game on the PC anymore either way since I'm at it most of the day and need a break from it.

Fair enough

I was never really a PC gamer myself, and for most part I'm still that way. I only just decided to get it for mods on GTA V to make it a better game.

@ DERgaming

I hear you, but if you have money to buy a PS4 or Xbox One and their respective games, then I can only assume you have disposable income somewhere to buy those things - they are still expensive luxuries. If you can wait a bit more and save up then you can get one. You shouldn't even be buying consoles and video games in general if you have a lack of funds, you should have essential life priorities over that.

...it's $50 a year, $18 for three months, $10 a month.

If that is expensive for someone who has a current gen console then I'm amazed at how they even managed to get the console in the first place!

Unless you're talking about the price of console, the game and the PSN Plus, then maybe I can understand you.

Still, PS4 Pro will be released next year and we will the prices for the regular PS4 going down.

Why do people waste their time doing this? Just stick to what's being asked and not sh*tting on another thread.

OP try role playing some things. Act like F is member of CGF and recruit(Hangout) T(Lamar doesn't have a gun so Trevor will have to do) and start causing trouble in grove street, rancho etc.

The great thing is with the mods is that Lamar can be strapped with simple mod when hanging out with Franklin and he will shoot at anyone who attacks Franklin.

in my case i find every time i start up my xbox 360 (even that was bought used because poor person) i always find some crazy stuff to do, last night i damage my cargobob, wait til its starting to fail in sky and then try to hit some cars on freeway while slowly falling down, then if they get mad i shoot tazer and start using the car i got to fake the crash and scare sh*t out of npc's or chase down a npc car and just kill the car not person inside and watch the broken car escaping failing to keep it straight due to shot tires! LOL

BTW pedinhuh, in my country i don't even have option to pay for live if i don't have above country average income but minimum wage is enough to cover life, if i manage to get another 100€ i get ps3 to get online free and director mode and then i might actually be on singleplayer forever due to fun of director mode!

Officer Ronson

The game has a lot of ways you can f*ck around with it and eventually break it, hell you don't even need mods for those, these are some of the things I like to do usually:

- Lifting one of those blue containers in the docks and dropping it on people, that or play Wrecking ball with it.

- Luring the cops to Grove Street, or better yet, while being exiled, get them to fight Madrazo's goons by hiding in a spot where they can still find you while on a two star wanted level.

- Dressing up Trevor, Michael and Franklin in black, getting a van with the same color and assault The Pacific Standart Bank in Vinewood.

- Bulldozing your way through the Highways.

- Army of Tow trucks towed one to the other.

- f*ck around with the Online capture creator's NPCs.

- Getting on the back of the Scrap Truck and having a shootout with the cops on the highway while the NPC driving is attempting to drive away, from you.

- Obviously cause a traffic jam.

- Try to fail the missions anyway I can just to get the cutscenes that sometimes play with them.

Those are all the stupid things I can think off the back of my head, the game is really good to f*ck around despite not being able to push people and throw things at their faces.

Open All Interiors is such an important mod man. It really makes the city of LS feel way much bigger, and the great thing is, the interiors have active peds in them.

I only liked GTA V in two situations:

1) online, in private sessions with friends, doing coop stuff or messing around

2) in SP hunting for collectibles thus discovering some new places in the map

The video editor and director mode also seem like fun, of course I don't have that on LG.

Unless you're into these things, I'd suggest you go and play better games rather than waste your time with one you already dislike. I also tried to like V... Didn't work out :)

  • 2 weeks later...

Ok, figure I'd update.Started a new game on ps4 and have been taking everyone's suggestions along with my own thoughts to get something good out of it and... i'm enjoying the hell out of it. This game has essentially been my nemesis since launch and I think I found the problem on my end. I was seeing it as less of an open world game and more of a linear game with a big map (MASSIVE SIMPLIFICATION). Maybe it was the focus of the story tricking me or something. But I kind of took off the blinders my opinion changed fast.

The challenges I have done so far: outrun the cops on a motorcycle with no tires (a variation of something I did in 4)

stunt jump onto civilians

lead as many police helicopters into the windfarm as possible

complete a couple missions with only a hammer (clear out the Lost as Trevor, yes it can be done, and yes it is a terrible idea)

spent an hour travelling everywhere by plane. On the highway. Not flying. I died a few times.

and a few others including the obvious of trying to perfect all the missions.

I've heard GTA described as something where you "make your own fun" and in this case it actually worked.

Somehow coming at the game as a whole with a list of suggestions for playing and a different perspective on the story actually turned out great.

Maybe not for the probably hundreds of dead police that exploded in their helicopters at that wind farm.

The Time Ranger

Something I enjoyed was turning off the minimap and radar and go exploring. I found that it helped with immersion. Turn them off and parachute into the middle of nowhere, test your knowledge of the map by trying to find locations of your choice. I always get confused trying to find Franklins house. Whatever else can be said, Gta V looks great, and slowing down to admire the scenery can be nice occasionally.
