What game would you buy?

  1. 1. Pick a game what you would buy that is most simular to GTA

Recommended Posts

So ive been a big fan of GTA but after 3 years the map itself gets boring. So I thought id but a new open world game.

Seeing as mafia 3 and watchdogs 2 just came out what would you recommend? Also seen fallout 4, JC3 and the division.

I just want a fun game like GTA where I can explore a large map and screw around.

Im looking for Xbox One btw, hope you can help me descide and that this kinda post is allowed in here :)

Mafia 3:

My opinion: Underdeveloped, buggy mess with a grind for gameplay, but interesting story

Inquiring: Not worth a buy, wait for a 70% discount or rent it.

Watchdogs 2:

My opinion: What Watch Dogs 1 was supposed to be. Think Assassins Creed 2016 without the blades and the cool getup.

Inquiring: Worth a buy if you know what you're buying is a GTA clone with the usual Ubisoft type gameplay a-la Farcry and Assassins Creed.

Fallout 4:

My opinion: What happens when a game company gets over it's head and releases the same rehashed garbage they did back in 2008.

Inquiring: Worth a buy at a discount. DO NOT BUY THE DLC. Buy Fallout: New Vegas with all the DLC instead, you'll enjoy it WAY more.

Just Cause 3:

My opinion: No.

Inquiring: Don't buy this game. The collapsing bridges get old after a few hours of gameplay, the game itself is boring and repetitive, just like Just Cause 2.

The Devision:

My Opinion: A grind for colored hats, bullet sponge enemies, and its all about the f*cking graphics, which were downgraded lmao

Inquiring: Not in this lifetime, NO.

If you're looking for a DECENT GTA clone I suggest:

Saints Row IV:

My opinion: Stopped trying to beat GTA, instead makes fun of itself. Fun with superpowers, funny dialogue and story, and many parodies on modern movies and videogames like The Matrix and Mass Effect.

Inquiring: Buy it at a discount.

Sleeping Dogs: Definitive Edition:

My opinion: Fast paced kung-fu-action-cop GTA clone with Jackie Chan movie elements and an interesting story, fun fighting mechanics and decent gunplay.

Inquiring: Buy at a discount.

Not a lot of good games coming out this year. I suggest you refrain from pre-orders and wait for people's reviews before you buy stuff. Game developers are really greedy and not caring when it comes to this years releases...

it depends on many factors

- there MUST be cars and veichles in the game?

- do you enjoy slowing building your characters and artillery or having all the weapons ready?

- how much interaction with the world (interiors, ability to seats, buy proprieties) you want?

- do you need online?

- but, most important: do you want an "arcadish" fun (like SA, "kill everything and run from the enemies") or you simply enjoy manipulating the world around you?

Fallout 4 (only DLC worth buying is Far Harbor and Nuka World because they add story. Unless you're into settlement building, avoid the others), RDR (10/10) or Watch Dogs 2 if you're into GTA-clones with mechanics from AC and FC. Avoid the rest.

I second Sleeping Dogs Definitive Edition. This was a great and enjoyable game. Avoid Saints Row IV. I mean....unless you're into that sort of game.

To me, Watch Dogs 2 is clearly the best pick from your list. Not only similar to GTA but also looks like a much better gameplay-wise and a lot of fun for the single players and offers different fun online multiplayer modes that people will be able to enjoy.

Yes, I really like to just drive, fly or cruise on water and explore

- do you enjoy slowing building your characters and artillery or having all the weapons ready?

I dont really care either way

- how much interaction with the world (interiors, ability to seats, buy proprieties) you want?

Well the more the better id assume, but eventhough GTA is kinda locked its still fun with the small amount of open properties

- do you need online?

No, but if it has online its a bonus offcourse

- but, most important: do you want an "arcadish" fun (like SA, "kill everything and run from the enemies") or you simply enjoy manipulating the world around you?

Hard to say, I think a big map and hours of exploring either way would make me happy. Tbh ive never really played anything else in a big map other then GTA

Its a personal choice, this thread may only cloud your decision...

People have stated something I agree with in one game yet I disagree with the next line of their post. Most of the games you have listed are well received, pick the one that appeals to you the most.

Based on your answers, i think just cause 3 and mafia 3 can fulfill your desire.

You want action, you want vehicles, you want beautiful map that can be an escape from city map of GTA's, then both of them are waiting for you.

Yes, Fallout4 and RDR are a bit "lacking" in the "veichles" department XD

I haven't played mafia 3, but just cause 3 was a mixed bag. Good while it lasted, but despite the gigantic map, there's a huge lack of "interaction" with the world. There's no real difference between a snowy mountain and a swamp, since you won't find anything for miles (like in real life XD)

But missions are the most "michael bay" things you can find in a videogame, and the flying hook and wingsuit combo can lead to some awesome "creative moments" XD

Sleeping Dogs: Definitive Edition is a great choice. Driving's not that great, but the martial arts action is very smooth and Hong Kong is a great setting.

If you're into RPGs, then Fallout 4 is good with a weird post-apocalyptic meets 1950's feel. Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim: Special Edition drops on Friday if you like a more fantasy feel to open-world gaming. Both have huge maps and screwing around is a must in Bethesda games. Most of the fun is in the exploring.

Another fantasy RPG, Dragon Age: Inquisition is excellent and has a great mix of customization, story structure, and exploring large areas.

Red Dead Redemption always gets a recommendation, both to get ready for next year's sequel, and to play one of the best games released in the last several years. Great game for ignoring the main story line for long periods of time while you're hunting game or bounties, playing poker or Liar's Dice, getting wasted on brandy, or just slowly trotting the land on horseback.

Just a sidequestion though, is JC3 any good on Xbox one? Cause ive heard/read it has massive framedrops on consoles and that today it still aint fixed(meaning it prolly never will)?

Is it still playable or is it really that bad? Cause one says you hardly notice it and the other says it makes it unplayable

Fantasy I don't like one bit so def wont be getting them. Im suprised allot of people reccomend sleeping dogs btw, are the graphics up to GTA5 level? My only concern would be driving left all the time which I never done in my life lol

I'd say the graphics aren't quite as good as GTAV, but still looks very good. Especially at night to see the buildings and the nightlife.

Yep, RDR is the most similar to GTA.....RDR fanboyism over the top. :sui: (I'm talking about it leading the poll) Just Cause 3 with 0 votes is far more closer to GTA.

OT: Sleeping Dogs, Bully, Saints Row 1 & 2.

WD2 isn't out yet. I'm really confused about people recommending it. While I did like the original WD a lot, almost everyone kept sh*tting on it for being disappointing and not delivering on the hype. And Mafia III came out like 2 weeks ago and during that time everyone has been sh*tting on it for being disappointing and not delivering on the hype. So how can now people be recommending WD2? It can be amazing or it can be a complete mess, there's absolutely no way to know.

Besides, it won't be out for 3 more weeks. And it will take another few weeks to patch up properly (not crapping on Ubisoft here, it's the fact of life of all AAA games these days). By the time it's available and playable, the OP may even easily finish another open world game.

Anyway, another vote for Sleeping Dogs here. It's sadly unappreciated. Since the studio that made it is apparently gone now, at least the game deserves to get the recognition.

And RDR is a good choice too. But honestly I don't like when people call it "GTA but with horses", it's very much its own thing.

Wait, you haven't played RDR?

I'd say get RDR. Failing that I would get Fallout 4. At least with Fallout 4, you'll get hours out of it.

Mafia III is actually good, despite it's flaws.

JC3 is good on Xbox One. I have it for X1 and didn't have issues with it. Well, it's anecdotal but most of the issues seemed to be on PS4. And, actually given the answers you gave to the guy above, you'll probably love JC3. Actually I'm sure you'll love all those games as I do but probably JC3 is what you're going for.

If you have enough for WD2 then I'm sure you can afford 2 second hand games, no?

I had no issues with JC3 on PS4 apart from it being not a very good game, and possibly even more repetitive than Mafia III.

I'm gonna remove WD2 from the list because it's not out yet. Right now it seems pretty good but tbh we're gonna have to wait and see.

Otherwise? RDR. Hands down. It's a modern classic.

Well here is the thing, the last games on PC that I played were most likely MOH Allied Assault, GTA SA and some other game which I cant remember the name of. After that I didnt play a single game up to the point I needed a dvd player so bought an xbox 360 instead in 2013. Played GTA LC and then saw 5 on tv and bought it. Loved it so much that I bought an xbox one just for that. Only other game I play is WOT.

So no ive never played RDR or anything else xD

Yes I can afford all games but seeing as GTA entertained me for 3 years id figure 1 new game would be enough for now.

Now heres the thing, obviously mafia 3 and wd2 are full price(60e). But RDR,Sleeping,JC3 and FO4 are all 20-28e for me brandnew not second hand.

So ive chosen to go for JC3 because its a newer game bigger map and only 8 euro more then the cheapest(RDR). Also I managed to get the day one edition which includes JC2 also.

Ill wait till next month for the release of WD2 and then descide between Mafia 3 and WD2 if JC3 is really that boring.

I just cant bring myself to play graphicly less games then GTA 5 after watching YT on some. Strangly I played GTA SA again on 360 but thats because its in my memory of old times, RDR isent nor is sleeping dogs(which aint that bad but driving left side and allot of kung fu aint my thing).

I hope Ive made a good choice and if not there is allways next month :)

Thank you all for the tips eventhough I ignore most it seems lol

They made a remaster for sleeping dogs it is called sleeping dogs definitive edition. they made it to look like a next gen game and is only for PS4 Xbox one and pc it looks really good. I consider it about the same as GTA 5 the definitive edition works like the older version but is a whole lot better with graphics and I heard about an RDR remaster too so that is a plus I heard Just cuase 3 is good despite what other people say

Does it have to be guns and cars and sh*t? Or do you like medieval and fantasy games? If yes, then get Skyrim and Witcher 3. They are f*cking awesome games.

In addition to being really good games, they both have enormous maps and ton of sh*t to do. I have not played RDR personally but I heard a lot of good things about it from a lot of people, so by now I assume its a really great game.

I wouldnt get Mafia 3 to be honest. Compared with the other games you have on your list and the ones others here suggested, M3 is sh*t.

I'd still advise to get Sleeping Dogs, or the original Watch Dogs as well. And some indie games to boot. Just to get the sense of other genres and systems :)

Yes guns n cars prolly allthough RDR2 im getting for sure(still in doubt on 1), I dont like fantasy at all and think medieval wont appeal to me either.

The last days though playing JC3 I did question myself: So when the story is complete, then what?

Which made me realise that in GTAO I kept comming back to boost my level and cash. It has new content every 2 months orso.

So WD2 it is and not Mafia3 :)

Ye, think I skipped gaming for 10 years orso lol

JC3 is fun, but after playing it for 3 days I do find some downsides. Liberating towns is getting repetative and flying a helicopter feels really awkward when im used to fly em in GTA. But its nice to say after 3 days ive only seen 25% of the entire map lol And also got that download code for JC2 ;)
