Jonathan_
Hi all, I am having a very strange frame rate issue using SweetFX. I can't figure out what's causing it. 10 cookies to the great mind that can help me resolve this mystery. Description of the issue using an example: at the La Puerta baseball field near Franklin's first house, I get strange frame drops/dips using SweetFX. However, this issue only occurs the day after I have added my SweetFX settings. Illuminati confirmed? Example: 1. Clean installation of GTA V, updated to latest version = solid 60FPS at baseball field. Adding SweetFX = still solid 60FPS at baseball field, no matter how long I play. Disabling Vsync = 80-90FPS 2. Calling it a day, getting some sleep. Restarting the game the next day, no changes whatsoever = frequent frame drops/dips to as low as 53FPS at La Puerta baseball field. HOWEVER: disabling Vsync = 80-90FPS What could be causing this issue? Temps are (obviously) fine: Turning on PC (cold boot) and first time starting the game. Room temperature is about 15°C. CPU and SSD load is low (almost nothing going on on screen, just Franklin in his car and occasionally some gangstas chillin' here and there around the field) This baseball field is not the only random place where the frame rate seems to drop. I chose this place to explain my issue as it's not far from Franklin's house (started a new savegame a couple of times) and it's a place where there's absolutely nothing intensive going on. Not a single setting is changed, but performance drops every few seconds (randomly, no pattern). Disabling Vsync shows 80-90FPS, re-enabling Vsync doesn't solve the problem, as it still drops to as low as 53FPS and then goes back up to 60, only to drop again some seconds later. What I've done so far: - trying different SweetFX versions and different presets - many uninstalls and re-installs, including deleting savegame(s) and settings - trying different NVIDIA drivers (last 3 drivers all give the same result) - restarting the game and PC multiple times - disabling and re-enabling in game Vsync - disabling in game Vsync and using NVIDIA Vsync - eating letter biscuits while searching the internet for an answer, or topic with a similar issue - making sure there's enough space left on SSD (about 140GB left on 500GB SSD) - wondering what on earth could be causing this issue literally the day after I've added SweetFX, even though uncapped frame rate = 80-90FPS Many thanks in advance. Specs: 5960X, Titan X SLI, 32GB DDR4, EVO 850 SSD, Win 10 Pro (GTA V, Windows and all drivers are up-to-date as of today, oct 23 2016, nothing overclocked) Edited October 23, 2016 by Jonathan_
Jonathan_
Update: re-installed GTA V, again updated to latest version. Not using SweetFX this time. @ La Puerta baseball field, car is positioned on the left of the baseball field, between the big tree and two NPC's (the street is down below, on the left), front of the car is facing the wooden bmx half-pipe/ramp: => Nvidia Vsync on = 60fps with split-second random framedrops to 57-58fps, then back to 60-61fps => Nvidia Vsync off = 90fps (never drops below 90) What on earth is causing the framerate to drop below 60fps when using Vsync, when the uncapped framerate never drops below 90fps? ceaton88
When you're in game are you alt tabbing out and back in? This is a common fix for GTA and always has been. I know for a fact my GPU usage will sit around 80% when first loading the game, after I alt tab out and back in my usage goes up to 99%. The same effect would be happening when you change from Vsync to no Vsync.

Can confirm this, seems a stupid fix but hey it works. Also cntr+alt+del and check if gta is set to high priority it may help Edited October 25, 2016 by HaRdSTyLe_83
Jonathan_
I tried Alt-Tabbing but to no avail. Also, setting the .exe to high priority didn't make a difference.
J Krazy
Do you have MSAA enabled? try disabling that and going into advanced settings and turning frame scaling to either x1.250 or x1.
Jonathan_
Thanks for the suggestion, J, but that did not make a difference, unfortunately. Framerate is still dropping randomly to 56-57fps for a (split) second, then back to about 60-61fps. The weirdest thing is that the frame rate is stable @ 60fps right after re-installing the game, but as soon as i launch the game again the next day it suffers from these mysterious frame drops.
