Why do people hate online?

I swear, if Gta V didn't have any multiplayer and the singleplayer was no different, no one would be complaining.

 

 

Bullsh*t. I'd still be complaining about the lack of repeating crime-based activities and the things previous games did better.

 

- can't buy safehouses

- no vigilante, burglaries, or drug dealing
- can't leave car engines running
- no crouching
- can't push people, grab ledges, or pick up objects
- can't target enemies legs and make them limp
- car crashes got worse
- can't get peds arrested
- no arena activities
- casino and prison aren't used
- can't enter the mall, fast food restaurants, or airport terminal
- can't save cheats in phone

 

You couldn't do most of those things in Gta IV. And Gta V has a bunch of things you couldn't do in Gta IV. I mean there is no arguing that Gta V has more content that IV. And no crouching? Come on. You can sneak in Gta V but your upset that you can't crouch? That's nitpicking if I ever saw it.

 

You should think about that a little bit more because these sort of things have nuances to them.

It is not really just a matter of one game just having something another doesn't. Some asked is it worth caring about? Yes it is because man thins GTa V left out were important or helpful. Grabbing ledges and doing shimmies let you find more vantage spots and escape routes and hard pushes were a good way to get NPCs out of your way faster without hurting them too much and crippling shots added more depth because you could disarm NPCs or slow them down.

 

No crouch hinders game play and can cause you to die. Sneaking doesn't do much of anything.

Crouching had a very important purpose. You could take cover behind objects where the cover system didn't work like rocks and trash cans in open areas or use it to avoid using the cover system if you found it too clunky.

Sneaking in GTA is not a useful feature, it is as if they added it just for the sake of it.. Most of the stealth in GTa V is scripted which is no different from the others. Also when NPCs are in combat mode they know where the player is at all times. You can even melee kill a NPC around a corner from the back and all in that area will shoot at you anyways. Raising the sneak skill bar will change nothing too. If it was like watch dogs then that would be a good point because it would have added back value when something else was taken away but it did not.

 

 

Also if a game flat out has more content than another one does not mean its better because just like above somethings can add better gameplay functionality over all. You could say quality over quantity.

But you're missing my point. I completely understand if you prefer Gta IV to Gta V. sh*t, I do to! I just don't understand the argument that Rockstargames didn't put any EFFORT into Gta V and that they only focused on multiplayer. Gta V is basically more ambitious than Gta IV in every way. For every little thing they removed (such as sneaking and grabbing ledges), they added a bunch of other things (Such as planes, bikes, tattoos and haircuts) that were missing in Gta IV. Oh and also, they introduced multiple characters for the first time. A huge ambitious change.

 

So I'm saying that while people may prefer Gta IV to Gta V, you can't possibly say that Rockstargames "half assed" Gta V when it is not only one of their, if not most ambitious games do date, but one of the most ambitious games of all time.

I think the same happened with Max Payne 3.

I thought Max Payne 3 offline and online were well thought out and quite distinct games, although a bit lacking in repeat playability. The thing I did dislike about online was the way your ranking prevented you doing the easier stuff, I'm not that good a shot :(

It's just ironic how Dan Houser uses every game since GTA III to make fun of capitalism and then he completely condones West-Dickens tactics when it serves to line his pockets. That alone should be reason enough to cut the BS.

No that is not true. You are ignoring what I said and you are addressing something no one said.

I specifically mentioned what you are talking about and gave an examples. The problem with what you said ignores the issue I mention. Sneaking is a direct replacement for crouch. Crouching served useful purposes including moving around and lowering profile, sneaking does not and is mostly useless.

Again it is not simply about what game is missing what or which game just flat out has more things. It is not like Rockstar weights everything side by side. For the most part the games are just different.

Also People need to stop over using the word "ambitious" so much when talking about rockstar games because not only is it a matter of opinion but it also explains nothing and makes that person sound too biased.

It is easy to nitpick how the "new" things are just brought back from the older GTa games that had them but were done with less care.

Well in that case, I guess I'm not specifically disagreeing with you. I wouldn't say I'm adressing something "no one said" though. My points is simply that Rockstargames certainly didn't only focus on multiplayer with Gta V and they didn't half ass the singleplayer. I'm saying that the effort was obviously there in the singleplayer. There were certainly people earlier in this thread saying the exact opposite, specifically saying Gta V was halfassed and lacked content and that's essentially what I'm arguing against. Again, even I prefer Gta IV, but saying that Gta V indicates that Rockstar will focus on multiplayer in the future is not necessarily true. All I'm saying.

You do not have to keep clarifying that you pefer GTA IV, that has no importance.

 

Do you mean giants post? If so then I think you took what they said out of it's context. Of course they put effort in everything but anything further went into online.

The single player was being mistreated in favor on updating the online mode.

 

Again more content does not always mean better or more fleshed out. Some of the things like yoga can been seen as fluff and adds no value. More weapons but the combat is is more shallow. More vehicles but some of the mechanics are more simplified. I think that is what most people feel.

 

 

Also what you said about GTa 5 Not being a good indicator that rockstar will not focus on online does not make sense. So far the online has gotten almost all of the updates and single player did not get any big DLC expansion. People get worried because rockstar has not proven that that they are able to make multiplayer good enough to where they would want to play it over the single player and they really liked the story add ons.

Some would rather have the ballad of gay tony or the undead nightmare story add ons over a online with illogical reward systems and forced PVP gamemodes that are designed to frustrate the players into buying cashcards. The people who only care about single player have been left out.

There were a good amount of mistakes made so I cannot fault them for it. Rockstar has show that they don't have anymore integrity than anyone else...

I just don't think that the main singleplayer campaign in Gta V indicates that future singleplayer campaigns will be lacking. And I also simply don't agree that Gta V has more "shallow combat" than IV or that it isn't as fleshed out. I think Gta V is better in many ways than Gta IV but also worse in many ways. And the mechanics that were simplified (such as driving) were probably simplified as a response to people complaining about it being too difficult in Gta IV.

I've bought this game three times. Once on the 360, PS3 and the PS4. With my hard earned money. Nobody gave it to me.

I appreciate Rockstar for who they are and what they do. I've been playing their games since 1997. My name on this forum was PlayerSince97 before I changed it.

I appreciate Single Player DLC as well. I recently picked up Mafia 3 for example. Beat the game and did all the side missions. Now I'm trying for trophies. But guess which game I put down after two weeks of playing? Mafia. After everything is said and done, it then becomes repetitive.

The online aspect is never ending. You have free mode events, Bike work, CEO work, Rockstar created missions etc etc I've made my point above.

Gamers like me are realistic. We realize that Rockstar is a COMPANY. A money making machine. They don't make things for gamers just because we ask. They need to realize that some things need to be cut in order for something else to increase. It's been three years, guys seriously. I have hope that maybe one day Rockstar will release SPDLC for GTA V but at this point, I highly doubt it.

You want SPDLC? Play another Rockstar game for now. f*cking A it's not that hard to comprehend.

^^^ V has all of them expect poker and liars dice.

There arent any challenges, hunting is terrible and is limited. Bounty missions are limited to 4 so they don't count. And the "random events" are not random now repeatable. They happen once and in only one spot.

I think it's certainly fair to say that Gta V is an indicator that Rockstargames will focus on multiplayer more in the future when it comes to post launch content. I just don't think that the main singleplayer campaign in Gta V indicates that future singleplayer campaigns will be lacking. And I also simply don't agree that Gta V has more "shallow combat" than IV or that it isn't as fleshed out. I think Gta V is better in many ways than Gta IV but also worse in many ways. Yes, some things like the driving physics depends on taste but some things have no excuse like how in GTA V if you are flying a helicopter and break the tail off for any reason it automatically spins and explode. It does not need to crash into anything. Helicopters even explode when on the ground if the tail blade touches a bush. Police do not map patrol or arrest either and just pop up in the direction you are going.

Both of those games have trade offs but GTA IV did the euphoria better and has more options with combat.

In GTA V you cannot knock NPCs out because punches will outright kill them and you cannot shoot object out of their hands. Also the melee combat is less active because you do not have to carefully time button like in GTA IV and you do not have to worry about different attacks needing different timing. I think the block is gone too.

But these sort of things is normal with today's video games. Somethings get cut out for others more simple.

 

What I am wondering if the next game is going to be more balanced and fair for the players online.

Somethings like the contact mission rewards system is very shady and should not happen again.

Just an observation on that one comment. I grew up in southern California (Los Angeles) and have been to New York City many times. You very rarely see cops patrolling in L.A. but you see them in the traffic flow regularly in NYC. Maybe R* did this intentionally. But your statement reminded me of how I always had to scope out the traffic in GTA IV and sometimes wait until the coast was clear before stealing a car. In GTA V I just steal with abandon and almost never get a wanted level.

Why I hate Online: R* weather is not the same that in story mode. GTAV looks much better than GTAO.
AI: Traffic is sh*t.

Why I love Online: Big world with huge abilities, huge vehicle list on your own taste. Montly updates. Interesting to play in full sessions with friends, crewmates, make car show, battles, wars, coop missions...

RDR2 Online: I hope we can focuse all our attention on coop hunting, travelling, minigames. Not sure what are they going to do instead of bikers, vip and ceo missions.

That is anecdotal and not entirely true because anyone can say the opposite because it depends on which part of the city you stay in.

If that was the aim then the southern side of the map would have the patrols instead of police just spawning when something happens.

But real life comparisons are redundant anyways.

It is more like "streamlining" of how the police mechanics works now that you just cannot leave a redzone radius to lose your wanted stars. The system is just different.

Yeah I pretty much agree with most of what you said. I actually prefer the driving in Gta IV but most of my friends hated it. But the two things that Gta IV did far better than any other Gta (and possibly Rockstar game) is the physics and melee combat. I still prefer the melee in Gta V to Red dead as it had more weight but Gta IV had, by far, the best and most complex (but not too complex) melee combat. I loved dodging dudes and then uppercutting them or doing a 360 backhand haha. I really hope we see something similar in Red Dead Redemption 2. Also, are you sure you could knock people out in IV without killing them? I don't remember that but I could be wrong.

Yes if you hit a NPC with your bare hands and they go down they will still be alive as long as you do not repeatedly kick them when they are on the ground.

 

Too much complexity annoys some people and I understand because Some players really cannot help it due to injury and disability.

I am fine wth more simple systems that are easy to use but it is annoying how they do not make options for them or find ways to please people who liked the older ones.

Most games that come out that have helicopters use auto stabilization on the controls that force the nose to stay leveled. Like flight sims there should always be the "simplified" and "advanced" options in the menus.

I also thought it would be neat to have fighting styles like the older saints row and GTA games but have more complex martial art styles give more fighting options.

Online sucks. R* should stop copying EA with this online bullsh*t and improve on SP or I am not buying a R* game ever.

What's funny is you would of been one of the people saying the Internet was nothing but a fad back in the day. You're really gonna be disappointed when having a SP and online multiplayer is no longer the norm and the majority of games are online multiplayer only because that day isn't that far away.

Oh FFS! That's not GTA ONLINE MP! That's Free Roam, which is a glorified LOBBY, that you can skip if you don't like it. As soon as you load into your house/garage, you can go into the menu, and straight into a specific job OR a playlist of your choosing...THAT'S the real GTAOnline MP. Just because you don't like the occasional craziness of the optional Free Roam doesn't mean it should be eliminated for those that do enjoy it.

 

The reason I harp on this weak argument is because there will NEVER be ANY online game mode (Free Roam or otherwise) that EVERYONE likes. So do we eliminate ALL online play?

 

Sure, ok. Why not?

At least there won't be jets...at least I hope not, R*. They were one of the most annoying things about GTA Online. Cool? Yes. Fun to be murdered over and over again and not even get the chance to move before another rocket lands right in front of me? Hell no. That's one of the reasons I hate online. How easy it is to grief random people just trying to make some money and drive around peacefully.

Sure, ok. Why not?

Freeroam isn't GTA Online? Funny, since it seems most play freeroam more than any other type judging by the forums and videos. Even the recent DLCs are geared towards freeroam. Yachts? Freeroam. CEO? Freeroam. Bikers? Mainly freeroam.

 

Besides, it was said that MP was better than SP because "fake characters are boring". I'm not against MP in general but not so much Online's style. I'd rather have dependable AI characters and move at my own pace than "LOLZ_W1NZ dropped out. Returning to freeroam".
