Would you buy GTA Online 2.0 alone, without a base game?

Also this dedicated server argument (which I totally get)

But why with R* do you guys make it such a big issue? Who actually has dedicated severs? (not saying dedicated servers do not exist, Im just asking who actually has it)

How much better or successful than gta are these games? Since I switched my internet service providingz, I have had NO connection or lag issues with gta at all, maybe its ur internet...

Most of the popular or well known games with online do not have dedicated servers, cos in this day and age, most people have very good internet connection,

How people are still upset that gta online did not work perfectly on release is crazy, ITS LITERALLY THE DAY IT LAUNCHED....

How is all this video game sh*t not amazing to you guys? It looks amazing, plays well, I can play with friends, online in internet space....

How are u guys so upset? Is anyone else here a fan of Louis C.K?

Hell yeah!

I enjoyed the story mode of 5 at a time I couldn't get online but if that option was there I'd buy only online.

Wait . . . . would that mean we get kicked to dash on every 'network error' though?

EA, Blizzard, Valve, what kind of argument is this? You're trying to excuse Rockstar cutting corners and giving the finger to stable connections?

20mb/s directly connected to my PS4 with an Ethernet cable, still shoehorned into solo public sessions. Oh, and games like Overwatch, DotA2, and Battlefield 1 have more active players on PC than GTA has.

It wasn't just launch day, it went on for weeks. I lost 3 characters before I made my current character.

You are a Rockstar Apologist, you will jump on every thread criticizing us for pointing out R*'s f*ck-ups and incompetencies. The game is fun in the 10% of time it works, in the other times not.

This game is f*cked. The fact you deniers don't see it is amazing to me.

My internet is better than 99% of America's. I haven't been able to get a populated session for weeks. The game drops people constantly. Friends can hardly ever connect. Servers split all the damn time.

The game has been out 3 damn years. These problems shouldn't f*cking exist. If this game was made by someone other than R*, you just KNOW it would be a flop.

It's not my internet.

GTA wouldn't be GTA without a story mode...

This^....

Besides.. if they release GTA 6 muliplayer like GTA 5's... If i had an online only version it should be free to play if the same sort of money grind price tags are attached to it.

Absolutely, GTA Online is in my top 3 favorite games of all time. For all its flaws and criticisms, it's well worth it.

I would buy the next GTA:O on its own depending on the circumstances. It depends on wether or not there IS a SP game available at all and what the price(s) would be. What would be really nice also is an indicator of how long the online experience would be updated by Rockstar, but I guess that wouldn't be very realistic. And it's not like I would play SP a ton anymore after the Online game was no longer available or enjoyable.

Right now I'm not really doing anything in SP. It's just where I have to be to start an online session (private, anyway). It doesn't have all the new weapons and vehicles and features no female playable characters or a lot of the playable content available online.

maybe I would. I mean, 3 days or even less of hardcore gaming are enough to complete the story mode. After that you spend your time playing online. Single player provides the structure (game mechanics + vehicles + weapons + map + some contacts, etc. etc.) that can then be used online. Can't really complain about R* - they keep releasing new updates for free, I paid 40 or 50 bucks for the game and it never gets old...

If R* puts as much care and creativity into VI's single player as they did when they made V's, then I'm perfectly comfortable buying just Online.

This thought just hit me...

When GTA 6 comes out, let's say that hypothetically they offer you to buy the base game which comes with the online version (like GTA 5) or you can buy access to just GTA online version 2.0 (not related to the current GTAO at all) for a reduced price. Would you just buy GTAO V2?

EDIT: I personally would just buy the Online version.

Finally some sanity and sense in this fuc*king place

Absolutely! I don't care much for the SP experience.

V's story did nothing for me and I play Online exclusively but I'd still buy a complete package in the hope that VI would tell a better tale.

No I wouldn't. SP>Online. As much as I enjoy playing the Online portion of the game, it was just an extra for me. I bought the game for GTA V's story mode.

Yes, if it was a base game with an actual variation of storyline depending on how you react to various situations you encounter, this of course would make it very EverQuest D&D style but having various factions just more cemented in the game, I think would be a good thing.

If Rockstar could manage to pump out a Single Player GTA as well, I would totally support it! I don't want Single Player to go on the wayside just because it really has with the current iteration of GTA, still waiting on Single Player DLC, but alas it looks like that's never coming to fruition. :(

The single player had literally better have 1000 times more content and freedom than GTA 5s did, because that was an absolute travesty.

Dedicated servers and enterable buildings/houses and you'll see me grinning ear to ear, making a game a ton of us enjoy to this day all the more enjoyable.

Do it, do it.

Bold statement in which I'd tend to agree in that we are watching GTA as a franchise turn away from its historical story mode. I highly doubt the ambitious story mode of GTA V will improved on in GTA VI.

Online has watered down the brilliance and made the game heavily 'pew, pew, pew' in a PVP world.

Here's to the Benz getting hired by another Dev and making a worthy successor to GTA V.

Gta online ruined SP so I wouldn't mind a standalone.

I would agree online is giving them recurring profit, yes. Which they didn't have before. That's the addiction of macrotransactions, it's a license to print money. Even with sub-par content. People still want to buy in-game crap. Remember on game launch in 2013 without online, it sold a billion plus in under a week.

As to the game being a nice balance of PVE and PVP. The PVE content, much of it was there at GTA:O's launch. There is no denying since 2014, PVP and even lazy forced PVP has been a focal area. We've not got much PVE content in recent times short of biker missions which were behind a GTA:O $ paywall.

No. What drew me to GTA isn't PVP forced crap in the online world. I want a story, I want a good PVE experience.

If GTA:O II were a balance of PVE and PVP - maybe. However, R* has been pretty clear that PVP is where they think the bread is buttered.

It is where the bread is buttered.....Online is giving them more profit than they ever got before, it's even allowing them to keep GTA5 to sell at full price.

Have to say that online is already giving a nice balance of PvE and PvP.

Absolutely not, I would want both story mode and online!

I agree with -LN-

Personally, I think games with an online component ONLY are a bad investment since those servers will eventually be shut down rendering the game useless.

No. I buy GTA for the SP game. Online is a bonus. Online is not worth even half the price of the base game.

You sure about that? Because R* is farming an incredulous amount of money out of GTA Online 3 years in, because it has something SP does not have - longevity.

I doubt they would sell them as separate games and if they did, it wouldn't surprise me to see the new GTA Online sales piss all over the SP sales.

People will still buy it and everyone knows it for the sole reason that GTA has and always will be one of the best sandbox games..before they nerf the sh*t out of everything.

No if both sp and online are offered. I enjoyed both in Gta 5, and i want the same for gta 6. Yes if it is the only mode offered

For me the online play is the dlc for gta 5. Instead of tbogt and tlad that gta 4 has we were provided with a new story, our story, in the same game world, and, all at one price.

What does R* have planed for gta 6? I think single player and online very similiar to how it is with gta 5. The online only purchase would probably be if there is no single player. Online only would be a major change, but given the enormous success of gta 5 online it could be what R* decides to do for their next gta game.

I'd buy both together if available. I'm also cool with just a Multiplayer version if that's all that was offered.

EA? loooooool my EA games are horrible online, GTA is better..... is that what dedicated servers gets you? lol i'll pass then...what is Blizzard and valve's most popular game?...ill wait

How much better or successful than gta are these games? Since I switched my internet service providingz, I have had NO connection or lag issues with gta at all, maybe its ur internet...

oooooh on PC, one whole platform (sorry when did those games come out and when did GTA come out?....exactly) also don't just say things without facts, a link would be nice....."Mario Kart 64 has more players on PC than Overwatch" without facts you may as well say that.....since I switched my internet provider gta has been nearly perfect connection wise

Most of the popular or well known games with online do not have dedicated servers, cos in this day and age, most people have very good internet connection,

No... And it saddens me a bit to see people who skipped such a rich, amusing and fun gaming experience that is GTA 5 SP. I played it straight and only got into Online when I finished the main story and most side missions.

IF an hypothetical future GTA titles comes out, following a model similar to this one, I'll almost surely do the same thing.
