Hard to tell, GTA V was about a year before, I think Max Payne 3 was around 3 years before release. I'm hoping in the next couple of months before my subscription runs out!

Considering the big GTA V blowout article was in December, and the game was released in September the following year, I feel like Rockstar wants the information to get out there a good while before release, so everyone, even people who aren't necessarily as on top of things as those of us who spend our time on gaming news sites and forums, have time to absorb it.

 

You know, the people who hear news from their friends, who heard it from their other friends, who read it online. They want to give it some time to travel down the grapevine, so that when they release the game, literally everyone knows about it. So they'll want a good chunk of time between the article and release.

GI did GTAV in their December 2012 issue which actually published November 8, 2012. At the time that was supposed to be about six months before the game came out, but of course the game was delayed to fall 2013. Notably, the GI preview focused almost completely on single-player. No clue at all of what Online would become. I'd guess RDR2's online plans will be a bit more front and center, though due to the fact that Online can continue to be developed after the game is out and single-player has to be completely complete first, and also to reassure everyone who's feeling single-player has been neglected, not just by the lack of SP DLC but by the fact Rockstar has released no new games in three years (four years by the time RDR2 comes out), maybe the RDR2 previews will actually emphasize single-player.

Hmm... not sure. December like V would be great but i'm not sure how what R* is going to do with RDR2's marketing. I expect them to start the proper marketing this November after L.A. Noire comes out on the 14th.

never. I honestly think Rockstar will just release a blowout of info on their own without the support of a magazine/publication.

I picked February, even though it's a little late for Rockstar. They have LA Noire coming a week after GI comes out in November, and I have a hard time believing they'd release anything like that over the holiday period when they're usually quiet.

 

So, I'd say:

 

February: 50%

November: 30%

December: 12%

January: 8%

 

At that point, the release of the magazine would probably coincide with a gameplay trailer.

I'd say January. And the reveal early December (maybe with a tease a few days earlier) combined with news from Rockstar.

Nah wait... January doesn't make much sense when I think about it. Early January is still holiday season. Gotta change my vote to December. A cover reveal early November together with an artwork (the cover artwork) and maybe a few screens from R*. Then Rockstar will shut up for 3 weeks or so for some L.A. Noire marketing and then, late November/ early December they'll drop the bomb.
