I feel like GTAO's car scene has enough content for its own racing

They should just make demolition derby modes with guns but no stickies available to people who are obsessed with smashing into others during races.

As much as I enjoy racing in this game--it's actually something of a love/hate relationship, I do think many things need to be considered first and foremost before it branches off into a separate game entirely.

It goes without saying, but the person(s) responsible for vehicles need to ensure that classes are properly balanced and that one or two specific cars are not required to even be competitive within races. I am not saying that all cars should be identical in terms of performance, but each should have a distinct character with pros, cons, different feel/experience, etc. There should not be huge gaps in terms of average lap times where everyone more or less owns a carbon copy of the same one or two cars. We need more variety and have it where certain cars realistically handle tracks in distinct ways. A super car, for example, should not be able to climb mountains better than a true off-road vehicle.

Catchup/Slipstream -- Please, rid of these things or at least turn them off by default. If they are kept, both should be nerfed a bit.

The ability to have races that employ selections from a variety of classes would be a nice touch as well. Why can't we have races where super cars compete against motorbikes, sedans against coupes, or a mix of even a wider variety of vehicles? Something such as this would need to take advantage of all options available.

Fix the game mechanics; no more pavement surfing advantages; damage should be more realistic and impact a vehicle's performance on a more drastic level; hitting lamp posts and structures should stop a vehicle dead in its tracks (inflicting appropriate damage)--there should not be instances where the streets are littered with these objects and cars are able to continue racing; and more weather options with much more realistic effects in regards to how they impact driving.

In proper races (outside of street races), penalties should be handed out for dirty racing and poor sportsmanship. Pitting someone should reflect appropriate damage to both cars, and it should never be a case of just spin someone out and take off. That isn't realistic at all and it needs to go. It wouldn't hurt to also add more pit lane options for repairs and the like for proper racing tracks.

I agree with everything you said exept penalites for dirty racing..and poor sportman ship and removal of slip stream. I believe dirty racing is a part of GTA racing. Always has been.. Slip stream just needs to be tweaked to only work at certain speeds... and it should turn off when breaking or going slow.

But R* needs to balance all the vehicles in their class.. and R* doesn't do common sense balance fixes.. So none of this will ever happen.

I think there should at least be an option to enable penalties in races. Dirty racing ought to be reserved for races with GTA settings; I don't personally subscribe to the notion that it is required or should be condoned in all situations. Some of us like to race without people driving backwards or treating every race as if it were a demolition derby. Penalties for doing such could include lap time penalties or removal from the race entirely if the infraction is serious and deliberate. However, if you want races with the ability to race dirty without consequence, you should be given that option as well. I'm simply more about adding a variety of options for lobbies/race types and of course, as much realism as possible.

The problem is... Well.. sh*t happens.

I was in a race crew for a while. People would always drive clean.. but sh*t happens. Lag. makes sh*t happen and accidents do happen when people push to hard.

So if there is a penalty system.. I expect it to not actually work well at all. On my screen i could be no where near you. On your screen i could be smashing you off the road. I could think of many ways it would not work well.

As far as clean racing goes.. You need to find clean racers to race with.

Pink slip races will never happen. Too easy to transfer high end vehicles to lower characters. "What? I lost the race against your Faggio? Oh well, here are the keys to my X80 I guess."

Or imagine how many tickets would be opened with R* by people who were pitted by some douche canoe resulting in them losing their ride (or claim that happened after losing fair and square).

And even if you instituted rules like same value vehicles, non-contact only, can't sell vehicles won, etc. It would only ruin the spirit of the race. What's the point in winning a vehicle that's essentially exactly what you already own but can't sell?

Shame, never thought about it like that.

Until they patch the kerb-surfing/bump glitch this game can't be considered good enough to branch out any further. Let's be honest, unless you're running with a clean crew who don't use kerbing this ain't racing, it's a joke. And that's from someone with 8000 races to his name.

Unless they fix the horrific traffic AI, street racing in LS will be an exercise in frustration.

5.000 races, still not bored of them.

First 1.000 in 360 and PS4 versions, mostly random lobbies.

Last 4.000 with friends, NoDo, FNFR, GTV8, RACE etc, in PC version.

Love my vehicles and its incredible how many good tracks can be born through that map plus the props (old and new)

What i would love though its a racing game with Rockstar physics / camera mechanics / feeling etc, without curb/fps boosts and in real life tracks.

A "project cars" game made by rockstar. I want to race Nurburgring with my 9F and 30 people.

I know i ll never get it :)

PS. I remember when game was released some people didnt like driving and i was laghing. Still am, arcade racing couldnt be better.

If they want to make this game any decent for racing, they need to remove the dumbass slipstream and catchup features. Until then, this game will never be good for racing. Every racing lobby I join has a retarded host who enables both of those features.

Racing in Online is more of a chore than a hobby in my honest opinion. And I don't want a chore.

This is why I wish r* would just make a beautiful base online game, a city , country land, with simple things like jobs, shops, garages. Then have add on content that focused on individual concepts. Racing dlc, crooks dlc, cops dlc, cowboy dlc(red dead), etc. Make the base online game well, as well as single player was. Random events and such.

To much time and effort of r* is focused on single player and new games(red dead).

R* just make one great game, ever lasting and ever expanding.

Why not this as a DLC?

Give us a racing DLC similar to the Biker DLC, but have it focus on the different criminal aspects of street racing. Think the first Fast and Angry movie.

Like I implied above, I think some of the features in the OP would probably be too difficult to put into GTA Online as a DLC. I can see things such as rewriting the vehicle class system and programming manual transmission as tasking and difficult tasks for Rockstar. And with pink slip racing, there's the potential for dupe/money glitches, which is something Rockstar probably doesn't want.

I think GTA onlinr should be the go to game for anything criminal. We should be able to run guns push drugs and race cars and it should all be in depth. But like you said It isnt likely to happen with GTA5. Hopefully they push the limits with everything on GTA 6. GTA Online has so much potential.

Because of the way Online was rigged/cash cards, any time spent not making money is mostly a waste. This was a double edged sword for Rockstar as it drove a significant fraction of the online playerbase out of gtao. All activities like deathmatches, LTS and racing etc should pay properly/well, based on how long it takes the job to finish and how many players were in it, with a bit of thresholdery and diminishing level to balance it out/stop people abandoning heist setup grinding.

Then everyone can play for fun knowing they will be appropriately compensated when it's over.

Race wins should yield a small cash bonus and/or unlock some rare weapon/tint/gadget/item/livery/something that's not a shirt.

They also need to ditch the win/loss stats from Online as people avoid racing in particular because they don't want to risk ruining their stat if it's good. Come 2nd? YOU LOST, AND YOU'RE A BIG FAT LOSER AND EVERYONE WILL SEE IT when you race next...

IMO racing in Online is fun when you're racing with like minded players that are not cheating, I also prefer to race in non-contact because both catch-up and slipstream are f*cking dreadful, and if catch-up is off an asshole can make you crash, making you lose the race, non-contact removes this possibility.

I know it seems like they have the content to support a racing game, but they don't support the functionality. In fact, on the functional side they're barely a NFS title. MC:LA was a better title in comparison and that's pretty bad.

1.) Cars only have rudimentary upgrades. In real race games you can select different set-ups for different results or those that work to your strength.

2.) Upgrades are consistent. So you just pick the fastest car for that specific track and you can win, but if you don't... you lose. In a real racing game vehicle selection is just as critical as how you set the car up. There has to be balance and these cars just aren't.

3.) Curb Boosting and Double Clutching glitches. You literally cannot have a racing game that someone drives like that and wins. Bottom line. As long as these glitches are there you won't have anyone sign on for more than 5 minutes. I've played racing games where glitches were present and our player base was always tiny because a new player comes on, races someone who knows all the tricks and destroys a new player who instantly gives up.

4.) Theme. Racing games to well standing alone because they have "a lot of cars and tracks". In GTA they have... CEO work... Seriously? If a game like GTA wants to do this they have to have a tiered racing structure with a good theme and honestly there hasn't been a good theme in awhile. Most creators of racing games get mad when a company even brings up a theme. For instance, getting different sponsors and building healthy competition. GTA has never been able to do that. They fell back to letting Social Club do it and that was a joke. How many teams do you know out there? Probably 2 or 3 and they've never competed against each other. Never earned a sponsorship. Never climbed up the ranks. Honestly, NO games do that effectively anymore. I remember the days we had our crews and if you wanted to win you had to be in a crew or you weren't racing and competitions were strong.

To even be considered something other than a cash cow the mentality in gaming in general needs to change significantly. The CEO mindsets have dribbled down into gaming and bastardized even how we play. It's not about community, content, and having fun, it's about how much MONEY WE MAKE. Our game creators work and now they're putting us to work... to earn what? A bit of digital junk that means nothing because nobody is playing after they earn it.

tbh , one of the main reasons why I love GTA Online this much is the Cars´s offer , as I´m a car fan . I used to deslike the fact that we don´t have real cars in the Game , but now I kinda like it the way it is , proof that GTA Online makes ppl love those 3D cars :)

we had a Stunt update , now it s time to have a "proper" racing update including tuning , drag races etc....
