Tapping X (A) to Sprint

People argue that it makes sense to tap X to sprint because it simulates the repeated quick steps it takes to sprint in real life.

If this is the basis of their justification, then explain this:

In first person view, you only have to hold down X to sprint.

Why would implementing this feature in third person view be worse than repeatedly tapping X to sprint?

Because you already jog in 1st person when pushing forward on the joystick. It wouldn't make sense to jump straight to tapping when you can simply hold it instead.

Why not go from walking (by pushing the control stick) to sprinting (by holding X) in third person?

Either you are in a hurry to get somewhere or not...jogging makes no sense.

.jogging makes no sense.

your thought process makes no sense. There's a mechanic in the game where you get tired and can't sprint. There has to be a jog.

No, you should hold X to sprint, and when you get tired you automatically jog, and when you gain stamina back you automatically sprint again, all without taking your finger off the X button.

Either the quote messed up or it was actually edited. I didn't once say jogging makes no sense.

Because of "Standard FPS" controls

Changing the sprint to the left stick won't work well if you have to constantly press it and maybe it's a coding issue too

I don't know about coding but maybe it's more hassle that what it's worth to keep the regular controls one way and the FPS style the other

Yeah, don't worry. I just read through, the quote was messed up :p

I'm all for a bit of old school GTA but I'd be quite happy to go for push stick slightly to walk, all the way to jog and hold X to sprint.

No, Standard FPS lets you just press L3 once in 1st person, and hold it in 3rd

It's in the tradition of the game. Leave it alone. Next people will complain they have to pull a trigger to accelearate and a trigger to brake.

Pressing Square to jump.

You mean west button?

While I understand where OP is coming from, there are larger issues, like movement priority fixing. Numerous times my character has, rather than 180ing, walking right off a building. Or backpedalled if I was aiming too late to the same result. Or lost me a freroam event because, rather than aiming and rolling, he decided to vault an open police car door six times under fire.

They should have mapped this to R1 and not X so you would still have control over the camera.

Why? Because they're inconsistent and sh*t developers. First person and third person should be exactly the same, other than what you see on the screen. The fault lies with inability, not design choice.

If they are sh*t developers, what are you still doing here? If you're still here, then you must enjoy sh*t. Why do you find sh*t delicious?

Makes perfect sense to me and I'm one of the elite old school that use inverted aim. So I'll be claiming my way is correct about all the games controls.

What OP is saying is that first person players get an advantage automatically. They immediately get jog as their default movement mode where as third person players are set to walk default.

Why are first person modes not set to walk as default, push forward to jog and tap x to sprint, just like everywhere else?

Sure it's an advantage for first person players, and it should me made level, but it should be made like first person is.

Probably because you can enjoy something and still criticise it

OT: You don't have to tap shift to sprint on PC for some reason, it made the marathon mission really easy in SP.

Mate, I'm a full-stack Microsoft developer. I make my living on sh*t software, so it only makes sense that my downtime would be on something similar ;)

It's hilarious that you say this is "in the tradition of the game" and then go on to bring up that acceleration and braking is on the triggers. They used to be on X and Square.

That change was way better gameplay-wise. Screw "tradition".

It's not normal that controls are diffrents depending of the view imo. Everything should match and be the same.
