I was hoping for gun smoke to be a feature in the game because black powder was still used in some guns in 1899. The Henry still used black powder and would producd heavy smoke from firing it. But the Winchester 1892 used smokeless powder. “In 1896, at around serial number 165,000, Colt changed over to the so-called “smokeless”. firing Colt SAA’s in the game would use smokeless powder. It would be really cool to have smoke linger in a street after an intense gunfight.

Although I did miss that Browning Auto5, I was sure it's going to be in the game, which is not a bad thing.  It wouldn't be available in 1899 but since game storyline will probably cover longer period, maybe Auto5 is the shotgun we get to buy only later during our game play.

Intersting thing is that shotgun was developed by Browning and he wanted Belgian FN to manufacture it but they didn't have any capacity right away, so Browning had to wait couple of years for production to start.

Glad too see more accurate reloads of all the weapons. Hopefully the NPCs don’t just pull that tube out, bring it towards their hips and then just shove in 7 new rounds in like 2 seconds. They should have to reload as slowly as Arthur will. They most likely will be, though. It’ll be great to count enemy shots and counter their attacks when they are reloading.

So every rifle can have a sniper scope and you can craft explosive ammo. RIP RDO.

Hi folks,

So i presume y'all have seen the new weapon preview page on the website: https://www.rockstargames.com/reddeadredemption2/features/weaponry

Just a few things i noticed here, not necessarily a moan, but more an observation from someone who's been around weapons my whole life...

Firstly, anyone notice on the sample vids, and i'm also hoping, that the spent/ejected cases seem slowed down somehow? ....or like they are affected by 'moon gravity' lol!

And secondly, in the sample video of the Cattleman Revolver (Colt Single Action/Peacemaker), Arthur is not spinning the cylinder. It looks more like the cylinder is rotating itself, without the iconic Colt click sound, and Arthur is just ejecting the spent brass, and reloading a new shell (which you can hear).

Just a little surprised at the small lack of attention to detail there, which for Rockstar is a little surprising.

This guy is worth subscribing too btw!

Honestly,  Rockstar never was good when it comes to weapons. Max Payne is little better, but overall, their attention to detail is lacking when it comes to weapons, compared to overall attention to detail they usually implement in their games.

The small clips of weaponry are played in slow motion. The speed at which Arthur fires or cycles rounds is likely very quick, so the footage of him doing so is slowed down to show off the animations.

Greetings and salutations, members of the Witnesses of RDR2 sect and gun porn connoisseurs!

Thought to share it after seeing teh Edge preview but the guy beat me to it)
Nice news for fellow Navy/Army lovers out here. Rockstar are acting quite sly as in official screens/videos we mostly see single action army/schofield/repeater/bolt action/you-name-it. However, with that bomb info on 50 weapons and all these artworks and other hints appearing around I'm starting to feel that gun enthusiasts won't be disappointed (sorry for even using this word when talking about RDR2) with variety. Hoping that Remington firearms are going to be present as well (getting warm flashbacks to Bound in Blood and good old Desperados).

Another thing - is there any additional info floating around in terms of gun customization? Yeah, we've seen some cool engravings and paint jobs but I'm more interested in all those 'grips/sights/barrels' stuff - engraved version close-ups seemed to be for 'default' weapons. Rockstar did put quite a heavy accent on atmosphere and associating the gamer with the character and to me even single action army's variations have different 'moods' and add a LOT to the look (not even scratching the technical parts with possible different effects on draw speed/range etc.). I always sort of associated the long-ass cavalry model with lawful-good characters while viewing the shorter-barreled civilian model as more 'villainous'.

Hoping that with the amount of customization all over the place with both cosmetic and mechanical effects, we'll also get the ability to craft our own versions of Hand of God - that way I can easily justify overusing the 'fancy spinning before holstering' feature: http://78.media.tumblr.com/32506c6a212259f72a3e627a6fb5533e/tumblr_nitcfzbFfg1sjbs7ao1_1280.jpg

Also the reloading in the 3rd trailer where his revolver is pointing upward.  My guess is that whoever might be responsible for these reloading animations has no knowledge of and has never handled a gun. This the only gripe I have for everything I've seen so far.

Actually my jaw kind of dropped when I saw these new animations. With RDR being a really great game, the way I recall reloading - Jonhy-boy just fingered the damn single action army faster than he could shoot it (even though he was a magician and never needed to cock it).

Was good to see all the animations in slo-mo however I'm hoping they won't be too sped-up.

By the way I've recently started playing Call Of Juarez: Bound in Blood with realism mod which has some nice tweaks like slightly extended reload times and I highly recommend it to everyone eagerly awaiting RDR 2: https://www.moddb.com/mods/call-of-juarez-bound-in-blood-realism-mod. Just read the description guys and I'm sure you'll want to play again even if you've completed it a long time ago.

Yeah, just saw that. To be honest,  I am little worried because Rockstar didn't fix that weapon trailer but they left it on their official website and it looks bad, doesn't help them at all. I hope it gets patched right away upon release.

There is 46 weapons in GTA5's single player, including bombs(51 weapons if you include all vehicle weapons). There is over 50 weapons in RDR2!

Sweet Jesus. There seems to be a lot more than what they have shown in terms of everything. Checking out the map thread and looking up reviews from time to time - unlike a lot (if not almost all) of other games - we really only got crumbs of info in terms of story\map and now weapons as well with only a week before release.

I'm seeing myself replaying the game more than the predecessor as I get 'attached' to the guns. Quantity + customization, multiplied by the great Max Payne-esque inventory system is just awesome. Already picturing a number of situations where you are sweeping the shootout scene, looking for that brand new engraved double-barreled shotgun of yours that you had to drop before going akimbo.

There will be over 50 weapons in RDR2. In the original Red Dead Redemption there were 35 weapons (including DLC weapons, lasso, knife, throwables etc). Excluding Undead Nightmare weapons, there are 30.

I think it's fair to assume most if not all the weapons for RDR (excl. Undead Nightmare stuff)  will return in RDR2, meaning we're gonna see at least 20 new weapons.

Any thoughts on what these new weapons will be?

Since we already know about the stone axe, there's gonna be a larger variety of melee weapons beyond just a knife in this game, so that will account for some of the new weapons. I believe a derringer pistol was mentioned as being used by a gang member in one of the previewers, not used by Arthur but nonetheless. The artwork of Bill depicts a Colt Navy (as pointed out by @Baked English Beans) and I remember one article referring to black powder weapons - they may just be referencing percussion revolvers like the Colt Navy, but they could also be talking about muzzle loading rifles and pistols.

I also think we will see black powder rifles that are extremely cheap compared to the other guns, but might have a realistic reloading time and animation. So 2-3 shots per minute type reloading. In a Sears catalogue from 1897, black powder rifles were being sold for $2.50 and modern rifles and pistols were $20-$30 at the time.

I also think we will will see a Mares leg pistol, the sawed off version of the Winchester repeater from RDR.

Dont think the High Power Pistol will return, but Rockstar might say f*ck historical accuracy and put it in.

Varmint Rifles and .22s are confirmed. Air guns are mostly confirmed with “air gun ammo” boxes sitting in the window of the shop that Arthur is in first person mode in the gameplay trailer.

There will also probably be a greater selection of melee weapons like a cavalry sword or pool cue or even a fence post wrapped in barbed wire for all we know.

I also think that some of the customization for weapons will drastically change how the weapon handles and will almost turn it into a new gun. Like extra long barrels on pistols and detachable buttstock on pistols. Also it’s confirmed that we can change any rifle in a sniper.

The Carcano rifle and bolt action are confirmed, but I hope to see Lee-Enfield rifle with a ten round magazine. The others are only 5 rounds.

There also might be single shot shotguns that are cheap but slow to reload.

The LeMat revolver from RDR actually had a .410 shotgun under the pistol barrel and was able to fire one shot, but it wasn’t utilized in RDR. Hopefully it’s more realistic in 2 and the last shot after in the gun is a more devastating shot.

Speaking of shotguns, a bolt action shotgun is possible.

Blocks of dynamite are also confirmed, that will count as another weapon separate from the single sticks that you can throw most likely.

There might even be 2 different types of bows. Like a long bow that is more accurate and has further range, but slower to load and draw. And the hunting bow we’ve seen that would be easier to shoot and load with less range. I doubt it, but maybe there will be a crossbow that you can steal from a museum in St Denis or something.

5 more days till we find out, I guess.

Edit: The gunplay and shooting is underrated in RDR. The weapon retention mechanics where John pulls the gun up or closer to him and he gets close to a wall or horse is really well done, and your weapons very rarely will clips through solid objects. If we can saw off the buttstock and most of the barrel of the pump action and semi auto shotguns, that would drastically change your options for close quarters combat. You’ll essentially be creating a new gun that is shorter and more deadly than a rifle, but have less range. There will also most likely be chokes and duckbill attachments for shotguns to change the spread of the shot. The regular pump action in GTA5 was really well done and felt so satisfying to use when it was appropriate. In my opinion, the only well done shotgun that is fun in RDR1 is the double barrel. The others sound weak and are just too OP sometimes.

I  hope  we  get  a  c96  Mauser pistol.  But  it  will  full  auto  like  the  German pistol, too.

We've seen that the Browning A5 semi-auto shotgun will be in the game, and that wasn't produced until 1902. So it wouldn't surprise me to see the High Power Pistol in the game at some point.

In one of the previews I read that they crafted a fire bomb out of a bottle of alcohol and animal fat. I wonder if blocks of dynamite are something you craft yourself from the individual sticks?

Im not gonna search for it now on my phone, but there’s a screenshot of Sadie Adler standing next to a wagon with red boxes that explicitly say “blocks of tnt.” Maybe we can craft one big one out of several small ones, maybe even attach sticks in different increments of like 2-10 sticks depending on what size explosion we want.
