Mapping Red Dead Redemption 2! Landmark Analysis Thread

Recommended Posts

Gathering measurements of the main map, I think i've finally worked out the total size of the RDR2 map's "playable area". Please correct me if something doesn't seem right.

MapMeassurements.jpg

Obviously i didnt deduct the small overlap in the middle (probably closer to 52km² if I did deduct it), but it's a general estimation of the size so you can compare it to other games.

And although it's in the game, I didn't include Nuevo Paraiso, so that would certainly have doubled that bottom square size.

Excellent analysis.

Incidentally, if the main map is 6.75 km from west to east, then that suggests that the maps printed in the official guide’s atlas section are exactly 1 km wide each, at least that’s how it looks to me.

Even with god mode activated through the new trainer released today on PC, the sniper still kills Arthur once he reaches New Austin.  It’s really strange the length they go to keep Arthur out of exploring NA. R* is no fun.

try some different trainers.

I think it's Lenny's or Zolika's, but there's already a native trainer that allows you to explore New Austin in peace.

I've got the Legendary bison, pronghorn, and cougar with Arthur including the Challenges that can only be completed down South.

if you turn on Special God Mode and Never Wanted, Arthur can run around New Austin without being killed by the sniper. the sniper will still shoot at you but it doesn't affect the Challenges or Legendary spawns. it doesn't count as "too much activity." the New Austin events can still be triggered by Arthur's presence.

Stitching this together was a pain in the ass. But I did the best I could with the lighting/volumetric/atmospheric conditions.

Full RDR2 Map using what I mapped out of the out of bounds, adding DuPz0r’s Guarma & his discovery of the ocean using all of that I think this is the full map looks like.

I just hope one day to see a satellite image of all of this, to see the whole RDR2 world sitting in the ocean.

It helps people visualize what it looks like pretty well. I kinda wanna go back there again but I use a out of bounds camp save so I’d have to go literally half way around the world.

I wish rockstar would remove the game walls.

someone should make a rdr 2019 map, with a highway connecting all towns and expanding the towns and adding more. so the world is updated. id be fine with just a map ugh thats a fantasy map i really would like to see, maybe a map mod can come from it

That was an idea I had for Cities: Skylines 😁

Someone already did a 1900 version.  I wanted to modernize it all like you suggested.

ooeeh looks fun!

Just imagine how big St Denis would be... 😅 It would stretch all the way to Rhodes!

Saint Denis would likely absorb Rhodes, Van Horn and Anneburg and possibly Valentine by 2019 on this map lol.

St. Denis is a large port (relatively). And from St. Denis you can set sail for international waters. Does anyone have any clue how that is possible? I mean Lannahechee is a river which downstream is blocked by a waterfall. Only option is to go upstream. Does anyone have any ideas for how you can reach international waters from St. Denis?

It's the fiction of it, but the large need to contain the gameworld creates that logic gap.  It's the same way all roads never lead outside of the game edges.  Actually upstream is the only pathway that goes outside of the gameworld.  Older versions of the map implied a body of water further south.

Not having played RDR, on my first play through I genuinely assumed that the river basically flowed west to east. So the source of all the water was off the left hand edge of the map, it flowed along the New Austin/Mexico border into Flat Iron Lake, past St Denis, then off northwards past Annesburg to the sea.

Then when I reached the epilog and first saw the Manteca falls on the San Luis river I was gobsmacked. The falls were the complete opposite of what I had expected

I dunno... if anything, it shows how small St Denis is... reminds me how unrealistic it is.

the entire city could fit inside of Braithwaite Manor with room to spare.

the game feels a lot bigger than it is because horses are slower than sports cars ;)

Wow, nice. That's new information for me. Just been Googling it.

I wonder if there's any connection between Nellie Jackson — famed Natchez brothel madam of the early 20th century — and Tilly Jackson.

@dandroid Van Horn is Natchez. Those pics on google look identical to the town in rdr2! Also, if you read up on “under the bluff”, the place was filled with drunkenness and hookers.

Can someone try to glitch into Prinz & Co Meat slaughterhouse by using some PC trainer tools such as airbreak/no-clip to see what hides inside? I remember how I tried to glitch inside on PS4 but for some reason it "pulled" me out everytime I got in it.

Its empty, most of the buildings in St Denis have this pushing/pulling feature.
