Mapping Red Dead Redemption 2! Landmark Analysis Thread

While this sounds good and all, one should wonder how these areas, that were at least considered to be added according to the source, could've played a part in the story. Unless there was an initial plan to start the game much earlier when the gang was operating in the west, these extra western regions wouldn't have had a role to play. I guess that the next Red Dead game will primarily take place in the west, with an emphasis on California. A fictional version of Los Angeles and San Francisco will be included, and the Western border of the map will be a fictional version of the pacific ocean.

The reddit post says part of the original plan was to start in 1877, and time would progress to 1899. During those 20 years you would traverse from west to east.

Pretty much what I was thinking too!

After heading to Nekoti Rock a couple of times, I figured there had to be a quicker way to reach this area. So after experimenting, I found a spot that makes it's a much quicker and easier to get up there.

Well it seemed that:

A. The game was entirely rebooted in 2015, which is why the map leak from 2016 is so similar to final release.

B. The map is significantly smaller as originally intended. Hurts, since it actually means most of us were actually right when we saw other regions in trailers. They are all cut, including huge parts of Ambarino.

C. Story is cut down to just 'Arthur's story'. My guess, if true, we'll see loads of the cut story back in RDR3, set in 1877, with a prologue set in 1899 with the Blackwater robbery.

D. Cut content from 1899-1907 will be possible for DLC. Including Dutch's quest to find his indian gang (and set up his hideout) hence the empty gang location, Javier to Mexico (introducing Nuevo Paraiso) and Bill setting up his gang in New Austin.

E. It all seems like money is the only motivation. Hurts like hell, but expected. They've also made dozens of other weapons and clothing, so I expect loads of dripfeed in Online :/

F. RDR1 remaster seems likely as being the only SP dlc. Perhaps some Charles/Sadie short stories, but that's it.

G. Glad they left the raping (my god that would be NOT OKAY), breeding horses (boring as f*ck) and extensive time jumps out. Rather have the first two never in the game and the last one for the next game. This will give us a better focus and story, instead of a generic simple story arc spanning 20+ years.

I remember this was posted here before. I'd still take it with a grain of salt. Some of the information in the list, especially those that relate to characters, sound silly, or maybe considered by a drunken Dan Houser, haha.

Wish I never read it. Now RDR2 just feels so... lacking. Especially if it is true :/

@Jabalous I agree on not taking it too serious. I just discovered it last night and couldn’t resist not sharing! When the dude said others in camp could get hair cuts, I remembered the screen of bill in Rhodes beardless and was thinking “sneaky troll, or honest!”

I had a down and out feeling after reading about the map and additional weapons.

Nice. I actually spent more time than I'd like to admit doing the exact same thing. Funnily I did try that spot too but never found a reliable second pass-out point. I'd always fall through the map or drop somewhere I'd slide down.

I found that very carefully turning towards the wall on the second pass out spot worked for me, If I moved to much i'd slide back down. I did end up falling through the map a couple of times but that seemed to because of my positioning at the second spot.

Perhaps they should have underlined it thrice https://gta.fandom.com/wiki/Strawberry

If true, I bet they'll re-use most of this in a DLC. More likely in Online unfortunately. Example would be the Evans repeater. It was probably one of those "more weapons"

Oh Thank you. Took me a couple tries but I got up. I've tired getting up there going the long way outside the map and using @DuPz0rvideo but kept messing up. Maybe he can he can update his description to link to yours for this method?

This third green part should be in the game i think that the RDR2 map was too small and i'm not counting New Austin because there was not many story mission there

While the topic on Nekoti is still somewhat fresh, I got a couple shots of the view from the very top of Nekoti rock. There is huge difference between the 2 games in terms of visuals and landscape.

The Great Plains and Blackwater is really dark and bad looking from up there. Likely because of the limitations of the old gen hardware

I found a way back to the island of Guarma in Red Dead Online without getting teleported back. But you can't reach the village/bay. I've tried for weeks to find a way around it with no luck, so I'm posting it now to see if anyone else can find a way.

Yeah, certain cliffs that are flat enough you can sit on.

Probably the most obscure hint of realism in the game. Fun fact, in real life, there are some cliffs you can comfortably sit on, get a good view of the sunrise, and thanks to the view distance in real life, you can often see an NPC discovering a non-sitting cliff.

What if you went there while one of the online story mission is loaded up, one without a timer. Is the teleport barrier still around the map then?

Also, not sure if this was posted before but I noticed last night that the doctors office in Strawberry has it's interior loaded in Online. I just couldn't glitch in, kept getting pushed out.

I've not managed to find a way out of the map during a mission. I've tried loads of different things but no luck. Plus you can't even lasso people in missions. Unless we find a new solo method to leave the map, we cannot test that theory.

I think the Kerosene, Tar and Greed mission allows you to lasso teammates since it's one of the options you can use to stop the train. Only issue would be finding people who are willing to corporate to test it. Something I haven't been able to do since majority of friends I know won't even touch the online in it's current state.

We could have got an exploring team together, but you're on Xbox right? I'm on PS4. :(

Although i did actually try that mission. We rolled all the way down to Mexico and something went wrong, we werent able to lasso.

Unfortunately yeah. I do have a PS4 but decided to pick up RDR2 on the Xbox. For now, If I can figure anything out, or some kind of trick that bypasses the teleport barrier in a freeroam lobby, I'll let you know.

I did notice that sometimes those large steam boats you can drive in Single Player spawn in Flat Iron Lake in Online. I wonder if something can be done with them, that's if the method to use them in single player works in Online.

With the Kerosene, Tar mission Maybe lasso someone at the start then ride down to Mexico?

I've also tried using the large steamboats as a way to escape the map online. They just follow a set path around Sisika and then go back to Flat Iron. The steamboats in the north of Lannahechee arw unreachable, you hit the drown wall.

Four of us tried lasso'ing in the Kerosene mission at the start, and at the end with no luck.

The large metal ones you can only  stand on and float around it's set path. The wooden ones can be piloted online i think, but they hit the sink wall very easily.

Just tested this out. I luckily managed to reach one of the wooden steamboats as soon as I hit the drown wall off the coast of Van Horn. Was able to grab on before I died but as soon as I took control, it sank.
