I wasn't originally going to make this but after roaming around Mexico the other night I thought maybe there is enough here to do a comparison after all. It's a shame that this place wasn't fully added into the game but I really hope that someday it will be.

Everything naturally looks like a rough draft with lots of prop objects missing.  By that I mean rocks, bolders, textures.  And of course all the buildings and roads!

The graves in the dirt of Sepulcro though... that was a wonderful surprise to see!  An excellent comparison, thx :)

The entire map mesh from RDR was likely completely imported over to RDR2,  from that they went through and updated the textures and changed somethings up to fit the new time period. Mexico was likely planned to be apart of that but was likely cut early on in development so it was never fully finished.. So from what I noticed, they went over the map quickly, updated the terrain in areas that would be more visible from New Austin. The graves in the dirt of Sepulcro could just be left overs from the mesh itself.

It's possible the imported map could of also brought over Mexico's Ambient Sounds which could explain the dog barking sounds which can also be heard in the same exact areas from the first RDR.

Also not sure if this was posted before but I found a strange floating cube while exploring near the Sea of Colorado and Escalera.

What interests me about the Mexico comparison is a couple of things. One, was the graves at Sepulcro. Two, that plant in chuprosa I don’t think I’ve spotted anywhere else.

@Noru122 Nice job on Mexico comparison!

Does the latern trick still work to get through walls? Or do I just suck at it? I can’t seem to get into the annesburg jail cells.

What a great video! This made my thirst for Mexico even bigger.

I can’t get into Coots Chapel for the life of me. It seems to have a brick wall interior that forces me out, identical to the one at the Prinz Co building outside of Saint Denis.

Still showcasing Guarma's Interiors at the moment. It's nice to be back here after not exploring for a while lol

I got into that second story room in Rhodes that you can see through the window. Everything in the room is like 25% smaller than it should be. Just the room, a small bed, a weird painting of a naked man with a boater hat, and a small dresser that glows in eagle eye but can't be interacted with. There's two hallways in the room that lead to dead ends.

The Rhodes Doctor's office interior has a floor inside, but is otherwise empty and the wall looks the same on both sides

I recorded some footage of that a while ago actually. Still havent got to it. But the guy in the painting looks a lot like the guy looking for his mate Gavin. I also found that same painting but larger in the Art Gallery in St Denis.

The guy in the painting is...

...at the art show in Saint Denis, during the side mission "The Artist's Way". The guy's wife gets mad because he posed nude. Shortly after a fight brakes out.

Unfortunately, He's not Gavin, or his friend.

Since it's on topic, I decided to look through my library of clips and edit a video with it.

I don’t understand why they added so many canoes on the water opposite of Saint Denis & Roanoke Ridge if you can’t even get to em. It’s all textured shorelines with barriers preventing you from going deeper into the actual out of map areas. It would’ve been awesome to fish out there

They were probably afraid someone would find a way over and reach Guarma or Mexico.

But we found ways anyway. :p

So we could escape the map and sail around the entire world of course! 😂

For awhile now I was trying to reach Nekoti Rock for a good comparison between the 2 games but I was always stuck at this "wall" but thanks to a video by @DuPz0r I was finally able to get past it. On my way I noticed this one spot had some very familiar scenery and I realized this is where the cave Dutch Jumped from would be or in the general area. I went and checked it out and it seems that it is very close although there is no cave in RDR2

In both images you can see that Nekoti Rock is on the left side

I investigated a strange light in the upstairs window of the Compsons homestead.

Spawning algorithms and rules... assign canoes to spawn X often, Y distance if on a shoreline material.  Sort of the same thing with randomized plants.  What they needed was a "don't spawn here" option to override the global ruleset. :)

Don't know if this is appropriate thread but i'll post it anyway. Fort Mercer, then and now. Fun fact: RDR 2 Fort Mercer has inaccessible interriors while RDR 1 had loads of interriors.

^Apparently adding some torn down adobe barriers and wooden fences around the fort was too much to ask......

How could something so simple be overlooked like that?

I managed to get Nekoti Rock to show up on my map by getting drunk and passing out right below it

Found this on Reddit. Guy claims to be a dev. Take it for whatever, but I’ll throw it up on here.

“There were originally intended to be more areas to the map. You could go to standins for the southwestern states with a Mormon dominated region, along with standins for Southern California, San Diego, Baja California, Nuevo Paradiso was going to make a return and New Hanover had more towns based off cities in central Texas, Armadillo would also be extended westward and have a town on the land border with Mexico about the size of blackwater based on el paso. There was a note underlined twice that said nothing should be named after a location in GTA.”

He also mentions that Miss Grimshaw could give Arthur and others haircuts, but it was cut. That reminded me of that screen where bill is missing his beard; so I started to believe this guy some.

If true, then Red Dead 3 in 8 years or so.

Same guy maybe but there was a pretty big list released by a “dev” that had numerous things that were either cut or modified before the final game.

While this sounds good and all, one should wonder how these areas, that were at least considered to be added according to the source, could've played a part in the story. Unless there was an initial plan to start the game much earlier when the gang was operating in the west, these extra western regions wouldn't have had a role to play. I guess that the next Red Dead game will primarily take place in the west, with an emphasis on California. A fictional version of Los Angeles and San Francisco will be included, and the Western border of the map will be a fictional version of the pacific ocean.
