Wat. We got those with the delay.

Probably already obvious but my thoughts anyway,

rdr2_map_analysis.png

Doubt that is a match. The Triangle you made should be on the Left in in the upper screenshot (assuming it is viewed from the front)

The bottom shot is looking towards the mountains on the left of the first shot which is looking towards the plains, hence the mirrored shapes.

Here is the perspective i am referring to.

4 months ago. How about new ones? Are they really just gonna drop a trailer and go quiet again?

Here's a slightly updated version of the cleaned up one

  • I removed the "?" from "Cumberland Falls"
  • The crazy colors from the leaked image make it difficult to tell what's a river edge and what's some marked border. On closer inspection I realized some rivers were smaller than original thought. As I started narrowing them to their geographical widths it became too difficult in some areas though, so I stopped.

Here's past posts about the size of this map. It's bigger than the original Red Dead while not as big as GTA 5. It should be obvious though traveling across land will be slower on horse than a Ferrari. It will still feel very big in the sequel.

Rage Engine streaming blocks confirming relative size to other Rockstar games...

For what it's worth... the Rage engine land chunks match up with the leaked map, the original Red Dead map extracted by someone years ago and this other map of GTA 5.

Landmass comparison for playable space. Nem_Wan came up with these stats:

  • GTA 5 = 230,257 pixels = approx. 22.3 sq.miles
  • RDR 1 = 59,385 pixels = approx. 5.8 sq.miles
  • RDR 2 = 91,207 pixels = approx. 8.8 sq.miles

Here's the landmass for each game if people want to play around with them.

I'm sure there's some Photoshop plugin out there that counts pixel colors. Find out what each pixel distance is equal to game distances (google search size of GTA or RDR 1) then multiple the pixel count to find how much land exists in each game.

The original Red Dead Redemption looks like a T-Rex head with a Rooster on top if it :p

If you unscramble some location name I guessed at let me know and I'll update the image!

I think most of us agree now that the "leaked" map is just too good to be a fake/fan made map.

Even though the evidence is overwhelming i will still create my fan map alongside the trailers and screenshots with no influence from the leaked map.

I was kinda hoping they'd include a complete remake of the New Austin/Mexico area of RDR1 in RDR2 seeing as it's connected but that's probably just wishful thinking.

theres too many "coincidences" for it not to be real

"Coincidences" are what point to it being NOT real. IMO. But I've spoken my peace on that a million times already. We'll find out eventually, lol.

I mean... the map was shown way before we had actual evidence in a trailer that some places do exist like Cornwall and the "oil fields rail station".

We didn't even know Cornwall was an actual thing in the game until yesterdays trailer. How would a fan map have all that information? Along with the right geographical locations that were shown in the screens and trailers, right down to the horse shoe rock and oil fields.

They might. It could be a surprise that they're going to keep out of the marketing until the last minute. The leaked map doesn't necessarily indicate one way or the other. But personally I think we won't see the old areas except maybe in limited mission-specific instances (they've always liked to do that, like the intro to GTA V and the visit to Liberty City in GTA San Andreas). I kind of doubt we'll be roaming the old map freely, which is a shame.

I can't follow your logic in the slightest. The more these "coincidences" pop up, the more clear it is that they aren't coincidences at all. I do think people could easily misinterpret when trying to match vague landmarks like mountains in the trailer to the map. But place names? Those are very specific and we already have seen several exact matches.

its an art direction map used for theming areas, which is why each geographic location is in blocked colours, so artists can create and decorate assets and have the areas look correct

I love the fact that New Bordeaux is in this map and also in the swamps, i know i know it has nothing to do with Mafia 3 but its just funny to see that, what kind of accent does Arthur Morgan have? it sounds like a mix of southern and western, like he grew up at that one spot where the south and west meet

It's not too late. Even once the game's out. They will still need to push that free online dlc material lol

If the leaked map is true, how will the block off the old parts of the map?

100% true.

And probably with non accesible/insta-kill areas. Dense forest, unswimmable water, unscalable cliffs, canyons/gorges, man-traps, deathclaw pits, lazer turrets etc

Great work matching the landmarks with the leaked map. I don't see how it can be denied at this point, but truth be told, I wish it hasn't leaked and was left as a surprise later. It's also weird that something this big leaked before the game was even announced, which is a thing that couldn't cross one's mind given the concrete walls that R* usually puts in front of their operations. I suspect one disgruntled employee, but doesn't matter...!

I might be on the fence here, but perhaps they literally just showed the "new area" in the map and we will get the entire map of RDR 1 as well.
I don't have any proof for this, but see how in the original leaked map Thieves Landing is out side of the borders. If this is already outside, so can the rest!

And even then, they should be really stupid if they wouldn't add it as dlc, as it is definitely already in the engine... But that is just my opinion xD

A good guess with the exception of "C" and "G" imo. Not sure what "C" could be but I don't think it's that peaked rock. It just seems a bit too small in the panorama if you compare it to the formation in the 2nd trailer. "G" seems pretty close to where the gang's riding but too far away in the second trailer shot imo. About "C" tho... I think it could be the rock to the right in this screenshot (and the mountain in the middle around "B" in your analysis):
