Also, a new railroad to add to the collection.

The Lannahechee and _______.

Looks like the train that services Annesburg, and this gruesome shot seems to be in that area....northern Roanoke Ridge, with the Grizzlies in the background.

I first assumed that shot was in the bayou too. Despite the Spanish moss there are no cypress trees so the edge of bayou/Scarlett meadows could be possible. But why the sandbags? I agree with maverick, looks like helmets and combat boots. This shot reminds me of the mission ruins scene in the first gameplay trailer. The trees and plants in that image needs to be compared.

**checked it out, flora don’t match up lol

Yeah, some of use got into that a couple months ago...these were some of the images I posted at the time...I agree with you that without something added to what we know of, there's this weird "unused space" quality to the map...

but what if....

haha, just speculation.

Either the mappers got it very wrong or theres definitely more to the map around where new austin and west elizabeth meet. Theres no way rockstar would leave that small little bit the only way to get from new austin to the rest of the map. it would be one of the worst map bottlenecks in gaming history.

Anyone talked about this? Its from the edge magazine.

It really means nothing to us. You can make a tiny map scroll ten screens, or a massive map fit into a single screen.

I really hope there are signs on the roads saying 'Welcome to Ambarino' or some such.

Since we have close to two decades of R* open world games to make educated guesses from, I wouldn't say it means nothing.

It's safe to assume that if you zoom all the way out, you'll have a pretty wide bird's-eye view of the whole map, just like with RDR1/GTA games of the past 15 years.  Of course the levels of zoom aren't going to be the exact same across these various games, but there's certainly information that makes it safe to assume that zooming all the way out and still having to scroll that far indicates a very large map.

This size would come to the point where the game would just be unreasonably big. Most places would feel as if they served no purpose unless if Rockstar created a campaign so long and big it would take you not days, not weeks, but months to complete.

a lot of it could be fleshed out with forest, wetlands, etc. large open wilderness. doesnt necessarily have to pertain to the story at all.

Bingo, I want to get lost off the road and be terrified alone or with 1 gang member out in the wilderness.

We already know that Big Valley is part of West Elizabeth don’t we @Chinese Takeout ? So why do you have it as part of New Hanover?

I don't Brett. That's just an old, old image. Here's my most recent "State" map

I’ve always thought Cumberland Forrest belonged to new Hanover. Why do some think it’s part of amborino?

I use to have a dev kit for the Xbox 360 and a separately flashed one. The earliest I could ever get a game would be 10-4 days until release, unless times have changed I wouldn't trust anything until the final week.

Back in the day i pre ordered gta3. The small game store owner had some friends in dma. I got the game about a week early because I was buddies with the owner. They gave him about a dozen copies early to hook him up. Didnt realize how cool that was till years later. No social media back then to leak to mighta had something to do with it too.

I feel like most of. the mappers on this board think it's part of New Hanover. I decided to move it to Amborino on my map when it was confirmed that Big Valley was part of West Elizabeth, thus shrinking Ambarino to a tiny little state/territory. I feel like the map is more balanced this way. But, it's just a guess. we'll know the answer very soon!

re: states, and the merging of the GTA and RDR universes: Rockstar has never been consistent with this stuff.  GTA V is set in "Los Santos" and "San Andreas" but the songs on the radio stations are loaded with references to California and Los Angeles.  They will often reference real states and places in dialogue in their games, but if you ever actually set foot in a location, it will be fictionalized (for instance, even the brief GTA V prologue happens in North Yankton rather than North Dakota or wherever).

If you're looking for them to sit down and map out new names for all the states (some probably merging together) and major cities, they are never going to do that.  You have to live with some intentional cognitive dissonance.  Their universes are both fictionalized, and real.  And not terribly consistent from one iteration to the next either.

As far as GTA and RDR sharing a universe, it's fairly clear from all the Easter eggs and miscellaneous stuff in GTA V and GTA Online that basically they do.  But it will probably always stay just a set of references.  The series have a different tone and very separate time period, so we will never see them really overlap except by occasionally nodding back and forth.

I basically lost hope for the same universe when Bonnie said "Manhattan it is not" when describing Armadillo.  If it were the same universe, it would be "Algonquin it is not".  That and the California stanger mission is called California and not San Andreas put any doubt out of my mind.  You can look at the patterns.  In GTA, whenever they come up with a new location, they reference it.  Look at the lifeinvader pages, Carcer City, San Fierro, Vice City, etc., if they were in they were the same universe, there would be subtle Red Dead town references.  Aside from the Sandy Shores street names, there arent any.  The way I look at it, the Red Dead universe lives inside that book on Franklin's shelf.

The Edge preview where they zoomed out the map and 'scrolled over 2 screens', what does that even mean? As in what are you using to mark each screen for measurement if you get what I'm asking??

It doesn't mean anything. Zooming out might show an area 1 mile across or 2 miles across. We don't have enough information for it to be useful.

Cant we figuret out by compare other R* tiles map systems? Like rdr or gtav like how much we can see from the map if we zoom all out?

My question is though what do they mean by '2 screens', what on the map marks as having scrolled passed a screen to a second map screen

I said it two pages back and will say it again:

The zoom is roughly the same with all HD games of GTA and RDR.

So yeah if they kept the same zoom as all previous titles since 2008, we'll get a map roughly 2/2.5x the size of GtaV.

*that is if we can access the full potential of the square of course

**the playable area will then be between 1.5-2x GtaV

How does upscaling work? That’s unfamiliar territory with me. Would that play any part in this? I’ve seen comparisons where the leaked map and the first map are a tad smaller than the land mass in gta v. So, if the map is upscaled a little (the way I understand it) that would make it fall into the 1.5 to 2x gta v map size. Or, are we looking at new territory we’re unaware of. Fill me in and correct him wherever lol.

Cutter De Blanc

My rationale (aside from the fact that I've seen no real evidence to prove it) behind the old map not being upscaled is that... well... they have the entire old map lain out already. Half the job there is already done. They'd have to completely rebuild the areas to account for upscaling. Town layouts would have to be different, bigger. Everything they have created in the areas would have to be moved around. It's not really just as simple as "MAKE IT BIGGER." They have a perfectly scaled properly laid out map already, even if they have to rebuild it for the new game, they don't have to redesign it. Don't have to restructure all the areas. I would be legitimately surprised if it were upscaled.

If it is not upscaled, we are 100% looking at unseen regions.

If it is upscaled, we might only get the leaked map and the old map.

It is also possible to get an upscaled version of the map and unseen regions.

For now we simply don't know, although I think the map is upscaled a bit, since the distances seem further (1.5-2x longer) in the great plains, although that can also be smart camera work...

Although @Cutter De Blanc makes a very valid point :)

In the picture below, all maps are scaled correctly to one another. The red box is the TV screen size when zoomed out all the way.

For GTA V's map, I included all the water shown on the pause screen map. So, scrolling west to east is just under 2 full screens. North to south would be about 3 and a half screens.

Yeah... and the preview was around valentine, so not even that far to the west. There's just no way this is the same level of dezoom.
