Yeah, I have to totally re-do the train tracks. Thanks for the feedback, it is definitely needed! 🙂

Yeah your right, pointing out a flaw in something that is aiming to be 100% correct isn't constructive at all.

(and before you point it out, yes I intentionally put the incorrect version of your/you're)

It's all good fellas. I'm too excited about this game to get upset by anything. Well, other than spoilers. 😉

Are you still planning to do that neat project of recreating the full official map in your style and making it interactable?

I have a couple of collaberations with programmers/ app developers in mind yes. I'll continue to work on the map whilst they create their interactive content if all goes to plan.

I'll let them post their product as not to favour any of them.

The hills in the distance mark the edge of the map? They don't look particularly impassable

Impossible to tell from that shot. It could have a steep bluff-type base.

:D I have followed you and the others a while now and you're doing a hell of a good job! I was waiting for someone else to point out what I pointed out because its quite obvious when you compare the map to the shot. However nobody did and it stressed me out hahaha so I had to point it out.

Since they've expanded the state of West Elizabeth and added a new region of 'Big Valley', how likely do you think is the possibility of R* expanding and adding new territories north of New Austin and if Mexico is to return (which I doubt) , east of Diez Corona?

Having only the little strip of land north of Tall Trees/Cochinay be the link between the old map and the new map can be quite congested, possibly be a nuisance in Red Dead Online to (campers).

@DuPz0r rendition of the map thus far.

The 'Zoologist' trophy has me seriously doubting Mexico is returning.

Why would they use a word like states if it was?

Anyone under the impression they are being intentionally coy with that description just to throw off the scent of a handful of people on a forum have lost their damn minds.

Estados Unidos Mexicanos (United Mexican States).

Mexican administrative divisions are also called States.

I would be surprised if Mexico wasn't in the game but it's starting to look like it won't be. Although we haven't seen these sweeping deserts yet.

While you are correct that Mexico also has states, I still believe it's a bit of a stretch to say that anyone ambiguously talking about 'the states' is referring to anything other than America.

I'm not saying it's proof Mexico is not returning but it's definitely put a huge doubt in my mind, I'd be delighted to have my doubts proven wrong on the 26th.

My local gamestop told me, that the standard edition does indeed NOT include a map.

One of the reasons I upgraded to Ultimate.

Just so you know, they are going to tell you whatever they need to tell you to get you to preorder the most expensive version. The game may not come with a map without buying a more expensive edition, but that is impossible for a GameStop employee to know at the moment because they don't have the game. We'll see when the game comes out. I went straight for the Ultimate myself because I wanted the map it includes, as well as all of the bonus DLC stuff (played the hell out of RDR1 online and GTAO, so I'm excited for RDO as well). But yeah, they wouldn't actually know one way or another.

Everyone's seen this GTA V map, right?

http://gta-5-map.com/

Has anyone thought about all spinning this interest after the game's released into an interactive map?  I've toyed with creating interactive fictional maps in the past.  It's not as straight-forward as you think since 99% of the info out there assumes you're using a real-world map, such as Google Maps.

I'm doing some refresher research and poking the latest map hosting services.  PM me if you're interested -- I'm guessing people fall into two groups:

1) You want to contribute ideas such as, "Can I add map pin for this cave I found?"  (there's no reason to PM me this answer since it's just an idea right now)

2) You know what OSM, Leaflet, slippy tiles are, and savvy with coding to help build the structure to publish it.

I think I won't be back if/when the map comes out. Once in free roam, my plan is to go and see if I can find my way to West Elizabeth, and hopefully to NA. Once in WE my muscle memory will probably take over lol. Once I've checked them, I'll just ride around and try my best to get rid of the fog. I wonder if we can still buy maps, hopefully using them will remove chunks of the fog at a time.

Also, any theories on what the in-game map will be? In RDR1 the map was a paper map of the border to which (I personally believe) John slowly added the location names as he reached them. But since the map is covered in fog, that's not going to work this time. Who'd buy a map that's covered in darkness? My guess is that the map is a blank paper until Arthur reaches each location and "draws" them in. It'll be presented as Arthur creating and adding to the self-made map as he uncovers the fog. That or it's like in GTA, and has no explanation whatsoever.

Actually, this is a really good question, even tangentially....because I wonder if you'll be able to purchase maps for each area like in RDR1 that will autopopulate every notable spot in those areas.

Given the map, I'd love to see R* just not give anyone any breaks--we should have to find every little nook and cranny on the map.

Original Light

The GTA V map leaked about 7 days before release, if I remember correctly. If nothing leaks by next Friday, then I'd say it's a new record for keeping a game under wraps.

Not sure if it was mentioned but the new Edge magazine talked about accessing the map screen. Someone on resetera mentioned it said the map screen "scrolls for two screens. They're told to move south and the map screen scrolls twice as far."

Not sure if that helps any. Also the railway service offered transportation to half a dozen locations with Edge picking Saint Denis.

While playing today I found a reference in RDR to the Imperial Theater from RDR2:

GyYu6p8.png

At The Imperial Might/Night Theatre or(?) Armadillo

^That "or" could be "in", but that'd likely just be a typo, considering the Armadillo theater is simply a projector in a small schoolhouse, so the name doesn't really fit. For those unaware, this is the second theater in Blackwater, that seems to have burned down or been demolished sometime before 1911.

That's fascinating.

Maybe there IS a story behind it....maybe the proprietor of the old Imperial Theater in Blackwater moved on to Armadillo when his theater burned down.  Might have followed the train as they moved the tracks out there and set up a rail hub in Armadillo, and tried to rebuild a new theater there, the "Imperial Might."   But in the days of RDR2, the town was still too wild, and the "Imperial Might" went up in flames, figuratively or literally, before 1911.   Meanwhile, the out-of-luck theater owner still left promo posters up in Blackwater that are long since outdated by 1911.

Or, Rockstar may just ignore the poster altogether.  Who knows.

Can you quote and link to resetera?

Can you type over the paragraph of Edge?

Thanks in advance :)

My guess is that the final real life map is divided in two parts, north and south. This would also make sense given our screens (16:9).

If what you say is true, the map is about 18x14 in comparison with our screens. This would make the scroll down about twice as much :) but sadly doesn't tell us anything

I hope my explanation makes any sense xD

I have the Edge issue myself! This is the quote:

"We bring up the map, zoom out as far as we can, and move the cursor east. It scrolls for two full screens.

"Go south", a voice behind us says.

It scrolls twice as far."

Aight! Thanks :)

It literally means that

A. The map is huge, if we talk about the same zoom as GTA, it will be about 2x the size of GTA (if not more!). Absolutely huge O.o

B. It is somewhat of a square map or 18x14 something like that. Since they probably played on a 16x9 screen.

C. Did I say the map is absolutely huge xD
