What the hell is your problem?

Whats wrong with the map not returning in full? The map will still be there at large.. Are you having a bad day?

Not until you started posting hearsay.

Really, what's up?   About a month ago, a particularly prominent stand-up forum guy got taken to task by a ****load of people on the main discussion thread, even by mods, for posting HEARSAY about a "guy he knew at Gamestop" who was allegedly getting the game early.   Why are you allowed to do the same here?   Again:   if it's your OPINION that RDR1's map won't return, I have NO problem with you stating it as such.   Plenty of people feel the same way as you, plenty feel the same way as me.  Agree to disagree.  But when you present it as HEARSAY, that's a whole nuther problem.   You're telling us what you HEARD, without proof, not what you THINK.  Hearsay is deceptive, whether intentional or no.   You want your story to carry weight, provide proof.   You understand that, I know.

Dude relax, I already proved to a mod this is not hearsay..

Jesus the emotions, I hear it would absolutely shatter your world if the whole map was not in the game, but still, ease the f*ck off man!

I also told you 3 times now, I would gladly link to the conversation I had with him, providing his name, link to his credentials aswell as link to his articled in your pm, but you still wanted to go on a full f*cking rampage over something a complete stranger writes on a goddamn forum, get a grip!

Btw, this is hardly the same as what you posted about another poster.

Well let’s get back to mapping folks! And ignore everything that just happened.

I highly suspect that New Austin will be locked off until a certain point of the story. They’d definitely want it to be a surprise, not just something that you can stumble across. I imagine it might be a bit like Mexico in the first game.

I wonder if New Austin will have any new towns?

Yeah, sorry to all for getting pulled into that, was not my intention at all, and will not happen again.

Anyone feel free to pm me, and I will answer as best as I can.

Well I guess Benedict Point might be missing because the railroad may not have advanced that far in 1899. Tumbleweed would be the interesting place - could still be a ghost town or could be thriving. I would be quite happy if R* didn't stick completely to the original RDR in terms of exact positioning and layout except for Armadillo which for me is sacrosanct. It would be nostalgic seeing that town again (a little less run down obviously) lots of good memories there.

Well, to change the subject...I figured I better post my "Final Map <in progress>" before the actual map leaks any day now, haha. Here's what I have so far, but I'm not even close to done...

Here's the primary map:

Spoiler

I'm still working on:

  • Finishing the original RDR1 map in 4K
  • Adjusting RDR1 map (I think its likely - and I'm hoping very much that - the whole map will return, but I'm trying to pare it down to how I think it will be adjusted)
  • Adding landmass south of LeMoyne and Flat Iron Lake (whether it's playable or not, it's beautiful, and clearly developed)
  • refining the surface textures for the different environment types
  • Confirming/disconfirming various locations/landmarks
  • ???
  • Profit

Yes, exactly! I would be VERY happy if R* "RE-IMAGINED" whatever part of the RDR1 map that returns in RDR2, including West Elizabeth. Pretty much the same way (although not to the same degree) that they re-imagined Liberty City from GTA III to GTA IV, or the state of San Andreas from "GTA: San Andreas" to "GTA5." Obviously, West Elizabeth APPEARS almost identical on the Leaked Map, but that doesn't mean it WILL be. I'd like to see it keep it's same general shape and layout, but I'd be all for R* moving things around, re-scaling it, and adding new things that weren't there in 2010. Blackwater still looks like Blackwater...but also looks like part of the 4K generation of gaming, not the HD gen. I wouldn't mind seeing the rest of WE and NA (and NP?) receiving the same treatment. 👍

Hi all

Don't know if you noticed, but in the North-East pano overlooking the south-south-east I've noticed something that doesn't completely correspond to the the leaked or the fanmade maps. Thought I'd clear that up so the maps you make are precise.

It seems that the railroad has been moved to the east and north side of the lake at Butchers Creek. Also, there seems to be a trail going west-east that crosses the railroad and continue up north - probably providing a trail to Annesburg and maybe further to Van Horn.

On a second thought. Is that a trail going up north or is that the railroad that splits into a north and hearthland route? I kinda seems the trail goeas along the railroad both eastbound and southbound coming from the north. What is you opinions?

Are you making an allowance for Guarma? Or are you not having it on there?

Will be interesting to see how close you all are with your predictions.

I've been against the idea of thinking that the entire RDR1 map will return, but theres been good enough proof that is the case.

I didn't think Rockstar was gonna recycle a game map, a game map that we've all played to death, but so be it.

I feel ambivalent about your map. The total landmass of your map has to be at least as big as GTA V, but your map is picturing the RDR part of the map using its original scale. If your map is correct, it will also mean that each area in the RDR2 part of the map, will not be (and feel) nearly as expansive as most previews are alluding to. We have already seen screen shots of vistas with a scale far beyond anything in RDR, so how do you explain that difference in scale.

RDR is approximately half as big as GTA V, and in your map a very large part of the map is the RDR map. So if you are right, we have only seen evidence of half of this giant map the previewers are reporting on.

So no, it does not make sense that the map is "only" as big as GTA V, if the RDR 2 areas are as vast as we have been informed they are.

For your map to be correct, the RDR areas will have to be significantly upscaled, making the total map a LOT bigger than GTA V

You see the conundrum here?

There is no conundrum, for you see...I'm not concerned in the least with how the RDR2 map compares to RDR1, GTA5, FUEL, Breath of the Wild or any other map. As I stated in my post, the RDR1 map is just placeholder for now, as I make adjustments to what I *guess* will be in the Final Map. The RDR2 world will be amazing, just as the GTA5 world was amazing, just as EVERY Rockstar world is amazing when it releases. Scaling is beyond irrelevant to me because it is a foregone conclusion (of my own) that every bit of RDR1 world included will be scaled up in accordance with RDR2's scale. Which I talked about in my post that you quoted, above. How much? Don't remotely care, haha. 🙂

What's odd is in the Jeux Actu (French) preview, he keeps referring to the feature as "Lynx Eye."

Since our first contact with Red Dead 2 last March at Rockstar North, we know how hunting is a major element of the gameplay. Despite the hours spent with the game, we still had access to new information, during the learning mission alongside Charles Smith in particular, whose advice given to Arthur Morgan act as a tutorial. We learn first how to track an animal, via the skill of the Lynx Eye, available when pressing L3 + R3 simultaneously. The vision of Arthur Morgan then goes into a kind of infra-red mode, which allows to better identify the passage and traces of animals around. Once the Lynx Eye mode is activated, Arthur can track an animal by holding the R1 button, revealing a gauge that is emptying quickly enough. Once it is unavailable, just reactivate Lynx eye mode to enjoy again. Arthur will then see a colorful trail that will point the way to finding the beast in question.

"Aigle" is French for "eagle," and "lynx" is French for "lynx," so it's not a mistranslation.   Have no idea where he got the name from....tmk, "lynx eye" hasn't appeared in any other publication.

Hmm, this website seems to suggest that lynx is both eagle and lynx. I wonder if it’s a translated phrase rather than a word for word translation. For example a direct English to French translation of “Quiet as a mouse” may be understood but may not be the go to phrase.

"œil de lynx" means sharp-eyed in french.

Yeah, the angle from wayyy atop Mt. Hagen threw me off, too....from there, it appears flat to the ground.   And even the new photo of the bridge shows that it's not particularly high above the river, so it's easy to get the angle and perspective wrong from there.

The elevation of the bridge in the Great Plains gang shot is pretty high above the river. It's at the same height as the rest of the rocks surrounding the river (including Horseshoe Overlook, Painted Sky, the towering rocks in the Jimmy Brooks images, etc..):

j1KLeYf.png

H0E2k1g.png

iWDOupm.jpg

If I labelled everything correctly, that means the bridge runs from the slope of south Big Valley slope across the Dakota, and the Heartlands side of the bridge lines up with the elevation of most of the cliffs surrounding the southern part of the Dakota River. I forgot to label Painted Sky, which I drew out in white. The "Heartland hills" are of course the unique rock formations outside of Valentine near Cornwall, and the big cliff I labelled as the "Cumberland plateau" is the cliff/ plateau behind the Valentine church (up near Six Point Cabin). The cliffs of that plateau form the border between Cumberland Forest and The Heartlands (on the leaked map).

If that's the Dakota Crossing bridge, I don't think there's any way it could be close to river level.

Sounds like to me there will be a remastered version of RDR that will be available at a later date for a charge. Or am I crazy?

Edit: Could be DLC too - which I would like.

It looks like you are writing in Welsh. Very similar sentence structure.

I know they might be remaking the map, similar to Liberty City in GTA III vs Liberty City in GTA IV, but still New Austin was the main attraction of the old game. I wanna experience completely new regions.

Thank you for your answer and all your hard work.

It is greatly appreciated.

And I also agree that any portion of the map not yet shown, will be scaled accordingly.

I mean, it is Rockstar we are dealing with here. The kings of the bendy flip flops.

If tumbleweed is in RDR2 then it’ll have to be in its prime. It’ll be to much of an opportunity to pass up!

I've been having fun mapping this and I am curious about this desert region too...

But I am truly not sure why people LOVE deserts so much.  Speaking in generalities in this game's sense, it's just a pretty flat, empty region.  Why is that fun?  Why wouldn't a beautiful forested region with creeks and ponds be more exciting to people?  A hot, barren, dirt/sand.  What is enticing about that?

I am truly curious, but this isn't the topic to discuss it I guess.  Are people more curious about it's location, or do they really think they will spend more time in a desert then amongst the towns and tree's of the world?  Hm.

What RDR 1 did nicely is they made really nice arid regions varying from scrublands and canyon lands that have desert climates.   But it wasn't just flat, empty, deserts. No matter what, Rockstar will do a great job as they have nailed down environments.

Has anyone else thought how fun it could be to see the original Redemption lands set earlier than Redemption?  Imagine seeing Tumbleweed before it was a ghost town!

Brought that up about a hundred pages ago.  I would actually go look for it.  It was a very good, in depth discussion. :)
