Has the mapping community got a final predictive map yet? The one released for gtav was shockingly close

Check out the maps by @DuPz0r! I think the latest update was posted last page or so.

Wasn't there that dutch article that said the entire playable map of RDR1 is in RDR2? I know they later took down the statement, but they never really denied it or said the got something wrong. They simply just said they didn't want to spoil anything, and then later took down the claim.

He said new playable land. As in, expanded Mexico that wasn't in RDR1.

I am still unconvinced there will be any new playable land for Mexico to the east.  We have no evidence of it that I know of. Just a very distant pic that there is land sound of Flatiron Lake (which of course there is - that doesn't mean we can go there).

Well I'd argue it makes sense for there to be new Mexico land connecting the bodies of water to that region. Even if it doesn't feature any buildings and just land I feel its probable

Also wasn't their mapping done by DupZor that showed possibly the new mexico region? and didn't GamesRadar say anywhere we can see, we can go?

It makes perfect geographical sense, of course. But that doesn't mean they took the time to do it.  Making a substantial area of any game world and filling it with content is extremely expensive and time-consuming work. I wouldn't be especially surprised if they did do it, I just don't think there's any strong evidence for it yet.  Strictly wishful thinking at this point.

Maybe I'm saying a crazy thing but, according to the image, the map from Special Edition is double sided, right? It can see a line on the inside, and if we consider that it's rolled, the top and the bottom can't be on the same side of the paper. If this were true, then it could be that on one side there was the updated map of RDR and on the other, the new map of RDR2 🤨

https://i.imgur.com/nh07SGX.jpg

this is EXACTLY my thought, why else should we get a double-sided map? side a: rdr2 (new map), side b: rdr1 ("old" map)

eghh I feel there is some evidence but nothing substantial because Rockstar has tried not showing any of New Austin/Nuevo Paraiso. I believe it makes sense and I wouldn't call that a substantial area could just be land connecting us to Mexico. May not even have a new building....

I forget where I saw/heard the quote that I'm trying to look for that said: "If you can see it, you can go to it." This was regarding the map and what was playable territory.

Does anyone know where this quote was from? Is there truth to this?

Its possible especially if New Austin/Nuevo Paraiso are being kept as a secret that we maybe don't find out right away in game?

It was said in one of the previews, I forget which.  It came from Rockstar (or is paraphrased from what they said) but I am still taking it with a big, fat grain of salt.  RDR was LOADED with land you could see but not get to - that was the entire map boundary in fact.  Unless RDR2 is now an island, this feels to me like ill-considered marketing hype, not an actual rule of thumb for how the game will work.  I think some of the boundaries (especially around the old map) will still be unpassable mountains and cliffs, which by definition is land you can see but not get to. The northern boundary of the Grizzlies is also likely to be mountainous, not a huge ocean.

We got a double sided map for GTA 5,one showed the whole map and the other focused on the city.

i am sure we dont have cities as big as LS in rdr, so no need to have a full side just for one (small) city only

They might focus on SaintDenis, but one side for RDR1 map is a good theory

Los Santos in GTAV was way more important and central to the game than Saint Denis will be for RDR2 though.

Hello everybody,

I was pretty active in the mappingGTAV thread years back, I helped map out a good chunk of detail back then.

For many reasons, I did not return to these forums, reasons that need not be explained here.

I still lurk now and again, and the work that has been done in the "new" mapping thread is impressive - I have chosen to log in and reply again for 1 reason!

I have a friend who is pretty high up at gamestop Europe, and he has confirmed to me, that they have received the guidebooks at the gamestop logistics department worldwide.

He has had a look at the books himself, and wont tell me anything :( But he did confirm that the map is in the book, and we will be very suprised.

Here is hoping, someone here gets a good look, and maybe can pass on some information, by this time ( a month before GTAV released) A lot of stuff starting leaking - It seems Rockstar has been able to seal their secrets even tighter this time around.

Regards

Daniel

Did you managed to get back to your friend in the end?

I tried looking back for an image someone posted a while ago where they compared the physical map with the leaked map and matched it up with Big Valley. I couldn't find it. I wanted to see if just the dark lines matched up or not. Was it @Little Big Man that posted that?

I surely hope so. I hope they NA/NP don't show up in the pause menu map until halfway through the story. It would be a nice surprise.

I just have a feeling that they want this to be a surprise, not something that everyone knows by opening the map

Owanjila....short for Wicahpi Owanjila.   It's a Lakota phrase for the Star That Does Not Move.   i.e., the North Star.

That's interesting. It looks like Owanjita to me, and all I found was this excerpt...

Plus, and I know this may be utter lunacy to contemplate, there may very well be people who have never played RDR1 who play this game. So the experience of venturing into and seeing NA/NP is something to consider.

Yeah, that's pretty neat. I still think it's a different word...looks like Owanjita on the leaked map, to my eyes. But it's hard to say. It could be Owanjila.

I wouldn’t take the “anything you can see you can go to” thing so literally. I’m sure the map will be enormous but there will still be borders, it can’t be infinite. Also that phrase sounds like PR talk if I’ve ever heard it

If this is true, and we know the inside also has a map, this game could be 1.5x as big as the leaked map+rdr1 map

There are no borders on the shown worldmap...

My guess:

top side: northern map (Ambarino, Lemoyne, New Hanover, West Elizabeth)

Down side: southern map (Mexico including Nuevo Paraiso & the US territory New Austin)

I guess the same as you. Furthermore I think the downside is also showing the new Mexico region. This way it actually makes sense to make a 45 degree angle on the old map, the new Mexico region below the lake wont fit otherwise!

Little Big Man

Thanks for posting my map, ScriGno.

DuPzOr, not only is your name hard to write, but I also think your map idea has much more potential. I couldn't account for the C shaped area in the North, so I just assumed it was something we hadn't seen yet. You matched in with Hennigan's stead, which works much better.

Do you read/speak Lakota?

"Owanjita" isn't a word...the source you cited is a mangled Americanism.  "Owanjila" is a word, and "North Star" makes some sense.

I speak and read several native languages, including my own Tsalagi.  Trust, it's "Owanjila." ✌

Staring at the superimposition of the maps, the only thing I can think is that the black lines are low lying topography maybe, that doesn't really make any sense either

I can't understand why they'd run through the river or the swampland south of thieve's landing why there's black in Beecher's Hope ect

I don't disbelieve the idea that the black lines are just there for the promo material to mask parts of the map and make it less obvious. They threw everyone off until people started to ignore them.

The simplest answer is that there is something we are missing, not that Rockstar is intentionally trying to obfuscate our mapping efforts
