because its hidden and doesn't appear until later in the game

Rockstar has been asked if the map unlocks through the game like in the 1st game, and they've said that you can go anywhere once you finish the intro portion of the Grizzlies.

I have doubts about that. I haven't read the new previews but my guess is the Blackwater heist that starts the game involves a boat, yet we've seen a lot of shots of Blackwater, and a few from cutscenes, including one of Arthur tacking some guy. Why model all of Blackwater for one mission that potentially could take place on the lake or the river? We've scene potential shots of Tall Trees too, though I'm not sure about those.

Not to get into story spoilers, but remember that a certain area of the map is called "Grizzlies INTRO" for a reason.

Which dovetails into what lots of us have been saying from the beginning.

This much is true, without being a spoiler:   the mystery of the Blackwater Massacre is still a mystery, deep into the game.

Also without going into spoilers...you read that quote Arthur gives, in the gameinformer preview?

Edit: I realise this could be what ya mean...

So Tumbleweed would still be an active town in 1899, considering the newest grave from Tumbleweed in RDR is 1907, meaning we can reasonably assume that it was at least active until that year.

Where is the causeway clearly visible in the sons of dutch scene? I'm just trying to understand what you're saying, since you're talking like there's a clear view of this causeway but I think you're seeing something that some of us aren't. I broke down the sons of dutch image, tell me if you think some things are different from what I labelled them as.

Tracks crossing the lake at the causeway.   Causeway alternates over rock jetties and manmade stone culverts.   Like these:

Water still flows freely from the Dakota into the lake; it's just not something that's navigable.  There's no "damming" of the river involved.

Again, clearly visible over Bad Guy's left shoulder in the train robbery sequence.  Tracks clearly curving right before turning up a short grade to the causeway.

Not seeing that as a causeway or a railroad bridge. In fact I don't see any railroad at all. They're hidden by those slopes behind the edge of water. I think they are South of Clemmon's Cove with camera pointing North/Northwest. I think KNOB is right behind Micah Bell & Horseshoe overlook is to the left of him. I think you're seeing logs on top of water floating downstream. Also don't think those are culverts either.

Thanks for expanding on what you're implying. I was having a hard time understanding where you were seeing the causeway. Though I'm still going to have to respectfully disagree, and the things you're seeing are still different from what I'm seeing. I personally don't think it's enough evidence to say we can "clearly" see a causeway, but I'd like to hear some other people's views on this. We definitely can't see any lake/ water in this robbery scene so it's a bit of a stretch to say that this is one side of the causeway. You were also saying that these 2 scenes (sons of dutch scene and the rival gang train robbery scene) were the same place because they are "the same scene", but they are from 2 different trailers and don't show any of the same characters/ landmarks. Anyway, agree to disagree I suppose, because all I can see in the train robbery scene is some rocks, cliffs, grass, bushes and trees. I don't see anything that looks like a causeway.

panE2PU.png

For the sons of dutch image, I can see a dark line that looks like it could be a bridge (below the big tree), but it looks like it ends at the cliff. I don't see anything continue out onto the water, I think what you're seeing as the causeway that extends onto the water past the cliff is what I'm seeing as the reflection of the cliffs across the water. and what you're seeing as culverts and supports to me just look like cliffs/ rocks and shadows.

Again, I'd like to hear some other people's opinions on this.

Yeah, as long as we're chucking around the word 'clearly' I'd say its pretty clear that is a cliff edge above his thumb with no bridge or causeway attached

It's 20 days before rdr2 release and no one had leaked the official map yet. As I remember, official gta 5 map was leaked by parts long before the game was released.

My thoughts exactly. What he's seeing as a causeway just looks like the reflection of the cliffs on the lake to me

I wonder when the Achievements/Trophies will leak? IIRC, some of the GTA5 Achievements were map related and comfirmed/disconfirmed certain areas.

Illegal use of a tortilla. 5 yard penalty. Repeat 3rd down.

Given how many flags are thrown in the NFL this season, I fully expect to hear that from a ref at some point. Somehow James Harrison gets a "random" drug test because of it.

All i know is as soon as those leak i will be definitely going dark. Not risking story spoilers from the achievements like what happened with GTA V.

Different train robbery.

The one you're talking about took place inside the confines of Grizzly Intro, the tutorial area.

The one we're showing is in the Heartlands, and takes place some time later.

don't think so mate. Gamesradar described it as the same heist we saw in one of the earlier trailers where they jump on top of the train and one falls off and Arthur has to help him up. Then they line the passengers up outside and you have to decide whether to shoot them or not. Certainly looks like the same one to me.

Mate spoiler tag that sh*t. This is exactly the kind of sh*t i was talking about earlier.

f*ck It i'm out people. This is likely only the beginning of people just breezing in here and just casually dropping spoilers and will probably only get worse as the release date gets closer.

Cheers to the lads and lasses who have and continue to put in work here. See ya'll on the 26th. *Deuces*

I'm typing on my phone so not really sure how, sorry. If something is in the public domain (in one of the previews for example) does it still count as a spoiler?

Definitely not trolling but while we're on the subject surely this whole thread should be considered a spoiler zone since a lot of map related details are being revealed here.

Any idea how to tag the post so I can edit it?

I can't really reply without revealing any more potential spoilers but basically I've already addressed that, have I not? Ambarino is in the snowy mountains where as the surroundings of that mission are not. So what makes you so sure?

It's very relevant. Somebody was wondering where a particular place was and I told them that we already know and how which others don't seem to be able to do other than saying "it's not there" with no supporting evidence. You can't have a comprehensive discussion about mapping without discussing mission related details so...

Spoiler

The whole of the train robbery takes place within the confines of Ambarino and before the rest of the map is made available. That place is anything BUT ambarino. The train robbery ends in the area which we see at very beginning of Trailer 3 (scene where Dutch and the gang shoot at the armored car) which you will understand if you read the previews closely. Gang leaves from a cabin to rob train > bill sets up tnt (arthur helps) > tnt fails  > Arthur and Lenny jump on top >  clear the train of cornwall's men and stop it > (trailer 3 intro)  > gang shoots up the carriage > uses a tnt to blow it up > 3 people inside that the gang takes hostage > gang picks the place clean > dutch doesnt care about the hostages and leaves Arthur to make a decision.

Ok then my mistake... the background in trailer 2 looked pretty lush. That suggests that the train robberies are just a repetitive cycle though, even in story missions, which is kinda bad.

To the best of my knowledge, the GTA V map was leaked on the 10th September, exactly a week before release. So possibly, two more weeks before we see it leaked, worst case 3 😉
