Fort Worth Texas?

"An important trading post for Cowboys"

Fort_Worth.jpg

Upper right corner - is that an electric lamp? This can help set the time period.

The first streets in London lit with the electrical arc lamp were by the Holborn Viaduct and the Thames Embankment in 1878. More than 4,000 were in use by 1881, though by then an improved differential arc lamp had been developed by Friedrich von Hefner-Alteneck of Siemens & Halske. The United States was quick in adopting arc lighting, and by 1890 over 130,000 were in operation in the US, commonly installed in exceptionally tall moonlight towers.

After Thomas Edison pioneered electric use, light bulbs were developed for the streetlights as well. The first city to use electric street lights was Wabash, Indiana. Charles F. Brush of Cleveland, Ohio wanted to publicly test his new invention the "Brush Light" and needed a city to do so. The City Council of Wabash agreed to testing the lights and on March 31, 1880, Wabash became the "First Electrically Lighted City in the World" as a flood of light engulfed the town from four Brush Lights mounted atop the courthouse. One of the original Brush Lights is on display at the Wabash County Courthouse.[5] By the beginning of the 20th century, the number of fire-based streetlights was dwindling as developers were searching for safer and more effective ways to illuminate their streets.

It's set after the 1880s.

Could the creek from the trailer be Little Creek on the map? There's a road next to the creek in the trailer and two roads on both sides of the creek on the map.

7zB1lz4.png

Mountains on both sides of the creek on both the trailer and the map.

Edit: On the second screenshot right under the white bird there's a white blob in the forest. You can't really make out what it is on the screenshot but if you watch the trailer around 0:22 mark you can see it better. To my eye it looks kind of like a tent or some canvas. On the leaked map that area is marked as a Gang Hideout/Caravan Camp called Hanging Dog Ranch.

Either I've got a case of confirmation bias or 1+1+1=3. I think the map might be at least partially correct. Could be an older version, though.

Just to start with some regions I saw and my guesses to what they are depicting:

Grassy, rolling hills and ranch (Remind me of north Texas-Oklahoma type terrain)

Oil Fields (Texas?)

Valley with coniferous trees (Colorado up to Montana)

Worth's General Store appears to have tall mountains behind it (Colorado up to Montana)

Town shot with dog and vultures reminded me a Blackwater--but could be anywhere really

Plains with giant rock formations leading up to the snow-capped mountain range (look like the plains meeting the Rockies, so, Colorado or North)

My guess is the shots from this trailer are depicting the western Midwest and Rockies (so, north Texas, Oklahoma, Colorado, Wyoming areas). There could be more regions of the map to reveal later as well.

Can't say one way or another if the leaked map is legit, but I saw no depiction of Bayou/swampland in the trailer.

I think this map is fake. River from the trailer features 2 meanders in very close proximity and then there's split with island in the middle. Map shows nothing even similar to that.

I think IF the map is real, it's an early draft and you shouldn't expect it to be absolutely accurate.

I agree...map is fake and people shouldn't be mapping off of it. However, I also feel they didn't show enough in trailer #1 to start to accurately map anything. The only thing I can confirm is R* has mentioned "America's heartland" and we certainly saw a lot of that in trailer #1.

It would be quite a departure from GTA V, where every discovered beta map was almost the same as the one in retail build, with the exception of few short roads/streets changed here and there. Even beta screenshots with barren countryside featured final road layout.

I say fake, but of course there's no conclusive proof yet.

The "leaked map" would have been unfinished either way.

Considering the map is the first thing they start building im assuming it was completed a while ago, so why make a map with a pretty big\important aspect missing but label and detail everything else? Im calling fake on this map.

In-case anyone needs them:

1080p MP4 from Rockstar directly: http://videos.rockstargames.com/v2/reddeadredemption2-fghtffyrdmns-en_us-1080p.mp4

All frames in PNG format (2.8GB): http://www.rockstarnexus.com/media/downloads/redemption2/RDR2-Trailer1-Frames.zip

EDIT: Or if you want to save the 2.8GB download, use the following command in FFMPEG

ffmpeg -i rdr2t1.mp4 -r 29.97 -f image2 -vcodec png "frames\rdr2t1%05d.png"
EDIT 2: ZomBearUA reminded me that Gamersyde gets higher bitrate Rockstar trailers. Currently downloading it from them but they have terrible DL speeds. I'll throw up a mirror for everyone when finished. Does anyone want me to update the frames ZIP with it? :p

EDIT 3: Direct download of the 30Mbps version from Gamersyde: http://www.rockstarnexus.com/media/downloads/redemption2/RDR2_TR1_MULTI_US_1920x1080_HQ.mp4

Wot!? It says "railrod" and goes all over the leaked map. I mean everything is quite accurate to the leaked map, so if the leaked map was fake then Rockstar trying to make the leaked map look real in this trailer. That I find unlikely.

Well I do agree actually that a map is something that most likely won't change much after they start to build the actual environment. But the leak was very poor quality as well, the cleaned up version lost a lot of detail. I can't say for sure that Little Creek for example doesn't have those curves.

Mountains on the right look very steep and unreachable. In RDR that meant edge of the map, so maybe it's the same here, it could be northern/southern border.

Also, is it sunrise or sunset?

Here's something from me:

1. First we can see a railroad

2. In a far distance we can see a building, which can be a farm

3. Take a look at grass, it's yellow just like a color of that part of a map

4. And here we can see not so big mountains in the distance, they are white because of snow and that part of a map is white as well which is means that area is full of snow. And a distance from that farm building and that mountains is quite similar in comparison to the map.

HFraOvo.jpg

And let's talk about bisons. We can see a flock of them. Bison graze in large open areas like this:

1.jpg

Which is very similar to that yellow area it the map and yellow grass in the trailer.

That's a pretty good shout. I'd even say that the peak to the far right behind the steam smog is the same peak as j8/k8... or the bigger one behind it in 7?

I can't bother to download this 3 gig file, but if someone has could they post the "raw" frames from the last scene? All the other scenes are nice and steady, but that last one gives blurry screenshots. It's also the only scene where the camera turns 180 degrees.

This is all I got right now.

Too bad Mexico isn't in. Liked the diversity of the first RDR. So based on all your findings the leaked map is indeed real. And all footage was from the heartland(s)?

They are the same lamp?

Great find! Almost sure that WAS indeed RDR2, but in its earlier stages.
