Well it would make the options to travel from West to East a lot better. Otherwise you ALWAYS have to go via Great Plains.

Mountain trails would give us other options, especially since we have seen them in the rest of the map.

love that map https://www.davidrumsey.com/luna/servlet/detail/RUMSEY~8~1~36978~1200707:United-States-of-America,-1900-

all these islands ceded at the end of 1890's

I guess they can get a lot of inspirations to makes things in these islands :) but I barely doubt it will happen :/ as there are lakes and no oceans... only this "spanish" island up seems to be in the ocean

This makes the most sense because it allows any form of water transportation (canoes, boats, etc) a better area to travel if there is a landmass South of most of the map.  If there is no landmass playable south of the right part of the map the water essentially leads nowhere interesting.

exactly !!! it wouldn't be realistic if you can't kill the boat captain an drive where you physically can.

As it's pretty much inspired by Butch Cassidy, just for you :

"With the gang breaking up, and feeling continuous pressure from the numerous law enforcement agencies pursuing them, Cassidy and Longabaugh On February 20, 1901, along with Etta place Longabaugh's female companion, they departed to Buenos Aires, Argentina board the British steamer Herminius. Cassidy posed as James Ryan, Place's fictitious brother. They settled in a four-room log cabin on a 15,000-acre (61 km2) ranch that they purchased on the east bank of the Rio Blanco near Cholila just east of the Andes in the Argentine province of Chubut."

it would make ideas to use these islands...

and remember that picture as well : CANOË PIC

So, here's my PLACEHOLDER map, just to get the ball rolling. And, yes...I just named the Northernmost State Amberino to mess with you, BretMaverick777 . 😋

But, for real...other than West Lizbeth & Nuevo Austino, I'm just guessing. No idea how the state lines will actually be broken up. But this helps me wrap my mind around how it MIGHT go. For example, if you want to say that Amborino is a previously unseen part of the map that represents even MORE of the United States, then there are certain consequences:

1. If this new section has trains running through it, then it has to be one of the 5 states listed.

2. If you say that the new area is Amborino, then you have to change my map's Amborino to either New Hanover or Lemoyne (or possibly an extension of West Elizabeth). Now you're getting into some pretty Gigantic States, that really start to be more like REGIONS than individual states. Even in my map, below, these STATE breakdowns are HUGE.

3. If there is some unseen section of map that ends up being MEXICO...I don't think that can be considered part of the 5-state group. And, even if Amborino ends up being Mexico...that leaves the Grizzlies needing to be incorporated into either New Hanover or LeMoyne. Which, I guess, is possible.

here are my two cents concerning New Austin: Yes, we may see Armadillo, but not the whole area from RDR1. And why? Well, if we still believe the leaked map, then that's why:

(thnx, @'Chinese Takeout', for the perspective corr map, but that was AFTER i did this here ;)

It seems very unlikely Rockstar would do that as they don't usually do invisible walls on land.

I like someone's theory that one development team was working on this map we see, and another on the other map (New Austin portion).

Edit: Who knows, perhaps they were doing a remaster, and then just decided to merge the two maps together.

Please, no. That's a ridiculous notion. Why would they integrate a "remastered" RDR into RDR2 when they could double the cashflow by releasing a RDR remaster standalone for full price? Having said that, a RDR remaster is never coming anyway. It's already available on new consoles and it's even XBONE X enhanced.

Lemoyne is too big. It shouldn't include Roanoke Ridge, because that would put like half of all the towns on the map in one state. Pretty unbalanced, when you consider that Amborino has no towns or settlements to speak of. I see 2 balanced maps possible dependent on which state Big Valley is in as well as if Amborino is an American state. In both, Lemoyne includes just 3 districts; Bayou NWA, Scarlett Meadows and Bluegill Marsh.

If Big Valley is part of West Elizabeth, New Hanover is Heartlands, Cumberland and Roanoke, with Amborino being the Grizzlies.

If Big Valley is not apart of West Elizabeth, New Hanover would be Big Valley, Heartlands and Grizzlies Intro. Amborino would include Grizzlies, Cumberland Forest and Roanoke Ridge. In my opinion, this the more balanced distribution, with 2 towns being in each state. Coincidentally, all the ranches end up being in the same state, and the heavily mountainous northeast is contained in a single state.

As far as Colorado and Amberino connect,

1) Both are four syllable words ending in "o"

2) Both are of Spanish origin

3) Ambarino means "Amber" while Colorado means "Colored Red."

Maybe I'm wrong because it's difficult to imagine a train in this part of the map but I have another hypothesis about Amberino (just a hypothesis, nothing more).

What is the most famous region for amber in this part of the world (USA and around) IRL?

May I help you, have you ever seen Jurassic Park?

It isn't the first time that we talk about this country in this topic (spoiler).

This part of island of haiti/dominican is very similar looking. It even has the smaller island under. El Hueco is Barahona maybe. Le Vitaj is one of those towns in haitis side, since its french. Belle-anse, thiotte etc..

If I had to deal out the regions it would go like this.

New Austin: What we knew in RDR
West Elizabeth: Tall Trees, and Great Plains
Ambarino: (Colorado) Big Valley, and the Grizzlies.
New Hanover: Heartlands, Cumberland, and maybe Roanoke Ridge.
Lemonyne: Scarlett Meadows, Bayou, Bluegill. Maybe Roanoke Ridge.

Also worth noting most the major regions have a Town field marker.
Probably meaning the major city in that place.

New Austin: Probably Tumbleweed at this point as the railroad might not be on the path of Armadilo
West Elizabeth: Blackwater
Ambarino: Strawberry
New Handover: Valentine
Lemonye: New Bordeaux

Roanoke is kind of a weird outliner, since it has two major towns, and the Grizzlies don't have any towns or settlements (as far as we can see on the map)

I wonder if "Cowboys & Aliens" was one of Rockstar's influences for RDR2?

(P.S. I'm still telling you...there better be a boarded up cave somewhere with a DeLorean w/ white walls on it, and the tires are flat with arrows stuck in it).

45yr old dad here. Love maps & do GIS for a living & was a surveyor before that. The first Redemption game was a life changer for me & I've been gaming almost all my life. Haven't pre-ordered yet, but will, just haven't afforded it yet - dad stuff :(

Totally agree that the map work here is off the chain. Congrats & thanks guys!

Here's to the GIS peeps! It's such a great field and I love that people with the passion to enjoy maps and cartography can chew into a game like this. I think some of the fun of my anticipation of this game is just this thread alone. Love GIS, the Old West, RDR, hey, it's a great time to be alive! Especially having grown up with an Atari 2600.

Arrr....yer getting too far off the reservation with this Cowboys of the Caribbean notion, matey.    The game is about the American West, not Assassin's Creed:  Black Flag.

While Ambarino *could* be named for the fossilized tree resin, there's no conceivable application for that to Wild West lore at all.   We're better off looking at the word as a description of the color, not the fossilized stuff.

For the past couple of years it was considered ridiculous that the leaked map was legit. Then it was ridiculous that New Austin was being included. Guess what? Both are now all but confirmed. The game has been in development hell for years & delayed publicly twice. I believe the delay was due to integrating original map or at least New Austin. The story could be they planned on remastering the game then decided against it & then just integrated what they had completed with the new game. Or the opposite, they planned on adding just New Austin & then figured they had done enough to either integrate Nuevo Paraiso or they could separate the work for an official remaster. I think we're either getting a quassi remaster in 1 game or possibly getting a true separate released remaster. Remember Sony has marketing rights. Guess what they don't have? A proper PS4 playable version of Redemption(PSNow doesn't count). The presence of New Austin in Redemption2 just made any of those 2 theories much more probable.

I believe they remastered the whole RDR1 map for RDR2, yes; but a remaster of the whole RDR1 *game* for PS4 just doesn't look cost effective.   Even the XBone remaster runs less than 20 bucks new; it'll probably be bargain bin after October 26.   It *might* be something Sony would want to tack on to RDR2 for 10 extra bucks for those PS4 completionists and nostalgiasts looking for a "special edition," but idk...seems like more buck than bang.

I'm not gonna start accepting New Austin is in the game until i see proof (visual proof, not a toy train annotation). Everyone is just setting themselves up for disappointment if it turns out its not in the game.

This is my point. I'm not saying it wont be in the game. I'm not anti-New Austin or anything. But say we get a North Yankton style mission somewhere in that region which is self contained. Everyone has already set their minds on a whole state, it wont end well.

We should treat this information like the rest of the mapping project. If we see New Austin in the game footage, then we add it in.

Well you've got the desert shot and word about New Austin...try seeing if it matches! lol

Folks excited and hopeful for the district, or at least most of it, present is mainly because it's 2 leaks that have been well since confirmed to be real based on what we've seen also mentioned the game having 5 states and going to areas within New Austin like Armadillo and Ridgewood.

Its basically one piece of info being corroborated by the other that now includes the train description.
