Red Dead Online will be put in place of GTA Online in 2017?

Speaking of RDR2, how cool would it be if the setting for RDR2 was San Andreas circa 1889 or 1912 or whatever? The nostalgia and familiarity would be awesome, Los Santos could be like the little Mexican town before the Americans took over, Sandy shores would just be a small trading post or something, bigger emphasis on train tracks, the whole paleto bay and zancudo area could be heavily forested and full of wildlife, Zancudo airbase could originally be an Indian settlement. Just an idea...

The Arabian horse dupe money wipe is already being talked about around r*'s water cooler.

I do laugh when people talk about GTAO being old, and that being reason for it's impending 'death'. TF2 and GTA are frequently comparable in player numbers on Steam (GTAO also has a huge player base outside of Steam in comparison to TF2) and TF2 is almost a decade old, while still being updated to. If the base game is still popular and profitable it will be supported.

They cant handle 2 milk cows at once.

They definitely could and I bet(sort of) they will.

I honestly don't think they'll cut off support/updates for V until they're ready to announce VI or VI is done production and awaiting release.. Both titles will literally be and are as you said, (cash)cows. They'd be dumb not to milk both games at the same time for maximum profit.

It's just with RDR2 being newer, it'll become their "main bitch" and V will become their "bitch on the side".

I don't think GTA Online will die out. honestly, some or probably most people who play GTA 5 probably don't even know about Red Dead 1 or 2, they've only played one game by Rockstar.

I used to play GTA IV online to death, even though it was the same NOOSE mission, races and deathmatches. When the original RDR came out I played that for a while and really liked it, and also experimented with it online, and then went back to cars and modern day life because that's what I prefer.

In my experience, people will always prefer gasoline to horse sh*t, so don't worry about it too much...

Aye, I'll play the new RDR for the story, dabble in the online then go back to other games, returning occasionally. In the same way that I like western films when I'm in the mood but I wouldn't watch one every day.

It's a totally different type of game even if there are rough similarities in the basic mechanics. If Rockstar try to push RDR as their next big online game to replace GTAO then they would be making a grave mistake and I'm sure they know better.

I'm still trying to get myself to complete the story mode and haven't touched online mode in RDR. I've had the game for a long time now.

They're two different types of games set in different times but with similar controls. I honestly don't think I'll be purchasing RDR 2 on release. Unless I somehow fully complete all the impulse and "hyped" games I've brought in the last few years. Still want to relax and just play GTA online.

Remember, Rockstar made over a billion with shark cards.

Aren't you confusing the actual game sales with shark cards?

GTA Online will get at least another 2 years of support. At the end of the Biker updated they ask again if we have ideas send them their way. They listened to our Biker needs, they'll listen one more time to content in high demand.

I'm not interested in playing cowboys but I'll buy it to explore the early day glitches. Also might see if I can paint a horse worn black.

From a few days there is confirmed not only that Red Dead Redemption is in a production and that it will be launched next year, but also that theres gonna be online mode called Red Dead Online, which is very likely to be simillar to GTA Online (its not just the title itself, but also fact that R* earned alot from GTA O).
So, thats just my theory - does it mean that GTA Online will be highly supported till Red Dead Online and after that Rockstar will focus just on RDR O?
I think it is very likely that GTA Online will retire after Red Dead Redemption 2/ Online launch in the end of 2017. What do you think?

The Grand Theft Auto series has been, and is handled by Rockstar North.

The Red Dead series has been handled by Rockstar San Diego.

I'm sure it will be no different with Red Dead 2.

Yes ^ same basic game engine but a different house of developers. Neither game costs resources of the other and they will both be ongoing. Although I can't see red dead having anything near the longevity of gta online.

Ok.. I'll jump in this thread..

I've actually played through the story in RDR. I absolutely loved it. Up there in the best games/stories I've played. I recommend anyone who hasn't played through to do so.

That being said I never played the online portion of the game and have no desire to. I'm sure it will be the same with RDR2.

Will red dead online "kill" gta online. I highly doubt it. I'm sure gta online will still be supported for many years to come. Will I try out RDRonline... Maybe, probably not but maybe.

When Chekhov saw the long winter, he saw a winter bleak and dark and bereft of hope. Yet we know that winter is just another step in the cycle of life. But standing here among the people of Punxsutawney and basking in the warmth of their hearths and hearts, I couldn't imagine a better fate than a long and lustrous winter.

No. GTAO will not be replaced by RDRO. How about we have this conversation after GTAIV goes offline instead?

The fact PC players don't get Red Dead Online helps shut down this absurd theory. Depending on the year, cars don't even exist. You couldn't drive the one in the first RDR. Cars are what sell most cash cards..... what is R* going to implant every horse breed/horse creature out there? I'd shell out 10 bucks for a nightmare horse yeah.... but that's just me.

New RDR. All aboard the hype train. TU TU TU!!! Come on 2017, give me my Wild West fix!!!!!

Yeee Hawww

Wow, i just jizzed all over my laptop :inlove:

Face it.... GTA O has a few more updates and its done.. Its OVER.

RDR is set for fall 2017. Thats a YEAR away.

That gives R* plenty of time to come up with a few more updates.. And really, what else could they add at that point? This game is so broken and unbalanced now anyways. And cool things they add are instantly over shadowed by how broken and unbalanced the game really is..

RDR once its released.. Means lights out for GTA. There still might be some minor updates but nothing like we have had before.

R* is not known for supporting their old games.. once they move to the next one. RDR2 will be their new BABY!

He's right you know. We all seen that before.

I'll probably get hate for that, but i seem to be the only person here who's probably never going to buy this game..Idk, i'm not getting the hype. I've never cared about the first two red deads, never played either. Am i really the only one who thinks that way?

Me too. I've always been more of a 'cops and robbers' type, never much of a 'cowboys and indians' fan.

How the f*ck anybody can compare these two games on anything other than a 'both will feature online play and both are from the same developer' basis is beyond me. There is absolutely no way RDR online can compare to GTA online. How the f*ck does anybody see that happening? How the f*ck did this topic even reach four pages?

My guess, as GTA Online is produced by Rockstar North and RDR Online by Rockstar San Diego; is that we will see an update each 2/3 months for each.
So for example:
GTA Online update #102: 5 October
RDR Online update #13: 15 November
GTA Online update #103: 25 December
RDR Online update #14: 5 February
Etc. etc.

So they will not clash; but keep both games alive for years to come.
And each month will be focussed around one Rockstar title; so they will keep making money every freaking month for the remainder of days.

Well if you guys never played... of course you aren't excited and are confused this thread got this far. (The question involves the future on gta online so that's probably why)

I did absolutely love the first one. The zombies game they made out of it, I didn't like, it was ok. I never played the online, wasn't interested..

(that might change but I highly doubt it since I'm still having fun being a boss in gta online and have no interest trying online RDR and probably won't buy it right away.).. with that said..

This was one of my top favorites. It really was a great game. Story wise, game play, characters.. everything. Another great rockstar game.

"Cowboys and Indians", hardly Lol. That was hardly the game at all. Get your head out of your ass and stop hating on your misconceptions you made up about something you don't even know about.

It was "outlaws and outlaws", ultimately because of the government.. so it was more like "outlaw vs government" which forced "outlaw vs outlaw."

I could be wrong but I'm pretty sure more Mexicans, whites and animals were enemies than Indians. (It has been awhile since I played (I'm not to make this a race thing by pointing this out.))

I do remember other than Trevor Philips, GTAV story and characters (exception of few) doesn't hold up to red dead redemption. Gameplay and features/content maybe but RDR "campaign" was certainly a better experience in my books. One of my favorite but at the same time least favorite endings I could ever ask for.

But all this is off topic and should go there. This is GTAFORUMS.COM not ROCKSTARGAMESFORUMS.COM

I couldn't help myself sorry if I offended the non-RDR fans and sorry if I offended the hardcore RDR fans with false information. Just had to.. "vent" I guess, it was a good game that I enjoyed but everyone has an opinion and that's OK. :/

I'm kinda glad R* are moving on with another online game. Hopefully they will stop supporting GTAO in the near future and let us enjoy the game. But I have a feeling R* will nerf GTAO like they did with GTAIV. By making it difficult to enter or find online matches.

If they use the GTAO model you can bet RDR2O will have it's features. Like pony insurance, pony cards and pimped up saddlebags.

...And so far GTA online across, what? 5 different platforms. 3 years later since it's first version came out and now on 5 different platforms still making plenty of money. I'd say gta online is alright for now.

As long as Shark Cards exist GTAO will never retire.

Rockstar will balance their time between the two and delegate accordingly.

It's not ending.

Rdr isn't a housewhole name like gta.

Everyone knows what is gta even ppl in their 40's i.e. Parents

Rdr is still new so yes there is a fan base but it's not large as gta or known widely as gta.

Gta online updates won't stop maybe till gta 6 comes around. R* ain't that dumb to pull the plug on something that is generating money.

Gta is the only game that still sells $40 or $50 after 3 years. So no it's not ending anytime soon.

HYFR

Amen.

Hoping GTA Online will get all the great updates in 2018. Which is probably what will happen

RDR Online will get maybe 2 updates until 2018 where they shed a lotta light on GTA Online but maybe update RDR Online a little in between.

My guess is Aviation DLC in Soring 2017 and in Summer 2018 We'll get Heists 2.0 and Nightclubs
