Red Dead Online will be put in place of GTA Online in 2017?

You do realise that red dead's fanbase is way smaller than gta's, right? Besides that, they're still earning a shîtload of money from gtao, they're not going to stop updates any time soon. Would be rather stupid.

Ya man.. Red Dead.. That small ass game that no one players. Probably gonna bomb.

And R* is gonna keep updating GTA V forever and ever..and ever. Probably won't even need GTA 6.

Mate, gta is one of the biggest franchises out there. Its fanbase is bigger than red dead's, everbody knows that. They're not going to kill a game that's still making them tons and tons of money. 5's online will get updated until it doesn't earn them enough cash anymore.

Who said anything about KILLING a game? I really don't get you train of throught.

Its not like no more updates means they are tunring the game off.

They will be focusing on RDR2.... while R* north works on GTA 6. That means you need to accept the fact that this 4 year old.game by next year will be 5 years and had a good run.

RDR2 is gonna be HUGE! And once RDR2 hits it will cement Read Dead as another BIG franchise.. As R* already started that RDR is just that..a franchise.

I don't understand why people want online to end so bad.

I don't want it to end - I'm terrified it will end.

I still need my DLC - and I don't mean that in a general sense; I mean, I need the DLC.

That said, I think Red Dead 3 is probably one of the most beautiful games I've seen.

I really hope not.

I liked Red Dead, but I couldn't stay hooked to an MMO-like cowboy game. I'll stick with GTAO lol.

GTA won't end... But support and big updates will..

This game is old and a hot mess... and they are better off saving good ideas for the next version of GTA.

And really if they keep adding more and more updates... and people keep paying and playing. Its going to make GTA 6 seem less fresh when it comes out. People will be burnt out.. People are already burnt out on GTA.

Being real about it.. What makes more sense? Supporting a broken.. unabalanced old game with new content till the next GTA comes out..or focus on the next version that has a better game engine? You can't really do both.

Especially when RDR is gonna get all the love once it drops.. Expect at least a few good years for RDR2 to be supported and then.. Out comes GTA 6.

I don't understand why people want online to end so bad.

Because its success blinded Taketwo and reinforced that Rockstar squeezes as much money out of it as possible, which in turn made them neglect GTA V, the very game that broke multiple worldwide records and gave GTA Online enough boost to launch. I'm not saying I support this thought, I like GTA Online as well and don't want it to end either, but I understand where some of these people are coming from.

OT: I think that we'll have our dripfeed content dialed up to 11 with half of the content extended to 2 or 3 months, we could also possibly have RDR-themed content to promote people into switching between both games from time to time.

To be honest though, judging by the trailer, GTA V really fits look like a fossil compared to what RDR2 is promising.

I really hope not.

If it's anything like the RDR1's multiplayer, you won't have to worry about missing content, the only two worthwhile things there were poker and the zombie survival. Edited by DangerZ0neX

2013+3=2016. you missed some math classes it seems.

I highly doubt that red dead will ever become as big as gta. There aren't nearly as many people interested in a game like this. They're not going to make as much money with that game as they did with 5, i'm pretty sure they're well aware of that. This is why they'll not stop releasing updates for 5 any time soon. They'd essentially kill their cash farm by not releasing updates anymore. No new content>less sharkcards sold>less income.

I used to play GTA IV online to death, even though it was the same NOOSE mission, races and deathmatches. When the original RDR came out I played that for a while and really liked it, and also experimented with it online, and then went back to cars and modern day life because that's what I prefer.

In my experience, people will always prefer gasoline to horse sh*t, so don't worry about it too much...

SO basically you think R* is gonna keep wasting tie on this old game.. While focusing on RDR2 and creating GTA 6.

Ya makes perfect sense... HAHAHAAaaa.. Earth 2 not!

Jeezes...how many times ?

Updates are planned till next summer

I can see the logic on shifting focus and concentrating on one online game of this scale at a time, but aren't GTA and RDR developed by different divisions of R*?

It was my understanding that GTA is mainly Rockstar North while Red Dead is Rockstar San Diego. Sure, the Housers will be heavily involved in any new developments but the dev teams would be run by different project leads.

Of course, it's probably wise on R*'s part to slow/stop new updates on GTAO so the incentive for the playerbase to migrate to RDO is increased but i'm just speculating without anything to go on here. :)

Yup indeed...differend devisions...jeezes...it's like people think development of the new RDR has just started last week.
Source?
Rockstar san diego is the developer like the last time ?

Gta 5 is developed by rockstar north btw

Let me clarify my question for you..... :facedesk:

I don't understand why people want online to end so bad.

I think it's because GTA Online is causing Rockstar to forget about their other titles. There are people who want a new Midnight Club game or an L.A. Noire 2.

As long as Shark Cards exist GTAO will never retire.

Rockstar will balance their time between the two and delegate accordingly.

Each game has a different studio behind it, Rockstar North for Gta and Rockstar SanDiego for Red Dead, therefore both can be run simultaneously. Edited by aaronBLUEeyes

For me personally this isn't even a choice... Playing a game on a horse or in/on a contemporary vehicle... Difficult choice... Well, not.. :)

GTA online will evolve in a 2.0 version and Rockstar can real easily create another Island to which u can travel, but have to start from scratch again... When you get back to Los Santos, all your hard earned toys are still there...

We'll get something like that IMHO... RDR isn't a replacement, it'll be a great game, but not something I'll play to replace my beloved GTA online...

I am wondering on the programming level and game design...how much is RD pulling from what has been built for GTA and going forward, vice versa.

Which leads me to wonder if both CEO and Bikers updates was a result of game modes being built for RD:Online.

How much of GTA V was built from the ground up?

Shark cards will be called horse cards.

And the more horse cards you buy.. The bigger your horses dick gets..

:D

and the more horses get duplicated LOL

Not poo-pooing RDR2 (would love to play it myself--hope it does come out on the PC at some point); but just trying to keep in mind how early trailers of GTA Online were compared to how things actually were when the game released...

I have to agree about the potential content side question of RDR2 compared to GTA Online--a very interesting aspect to consider.

Seeing as RD2 is (for all intents and purposes) time-locked, there's only so much you can do with new weapons, etc. in terms of unique variety and usefulness. Even GTA Online has decades of past weaponry and vehicles it can draw from (e.g. Musket, WWII weapons like the Sten *ahem*), etc.

You make perfect sense. The problem is it's still making a ton of money with shark card sales. I don't see Take2 taking the moral approach here.

Server, balance, and content (missions)-wise, GTA:O is an absolute mess. They had better fix the dn servers, balance things, and give us AT LEAST 100 new missions that pay well before they kick the bucket on this multilayer abomination

Gta fanbase > rdr

It might depend on the sale total.

No billion = rdr dead in 6 months

GTA will probably have its update slowed down but I doubt Red Dead Online will replace gta online. Remember, Rockstar made over a billion with shark cards and the game is still in the top 10 on vg charts.

We plan to continue to support our titles with an array of innovative offerings designed to promote ongoing engagement and drive recurrent consumer spending, including additional free content for Grand Theft Auto Online. Looking ahead, our exciting development pipeline extends well beyond the current fiscal year, and we expect to grow bookings and cash flow from operations in fiscal 2018.”

said Strauss Zelnick, Chairman and CEO of Take-Two. “Our results were driven by the continued strong performance of Grand Theft Auto V and NBA 2K, coupled with growth in revenue and bookings from recurrent consumer spending, including record bookings from Grand Theft Auto Online.

I'm not entirely sure how it will work. Rockstar is known to publicly focus on one thing at a time. By publicly, only one thing on their Newsware a week. For example, no additional GTA Online content was unlocked this week because the focus was RDR 2, but next week, I bet more content will be unlocked for GTA Online.

So, when RDR 2 comes out, I think there are two things that will happen.

1. GTA Online will no longer receive updates. Instead RDR 2's Online will get updates (maybe with new guns and horses showing up in Single Player for a short while). They will focus just on that. This could be likely since someone from Rockstar (I think it was the CEO, but its a little foggy) said that eventually they will need to retire GTA Online and move onto bigger projects.

2. GTA Online will continue to get updates, as well as RDR 2's Online. I believe that they will switch off between games each month. After all, RD and GTA come from different branches of Rockstar. Keep in mind two things. Rockstar treats GTA Online like its an RPG that is independent from GTA V. Due to the fact that Rockstar registered a domain called Red Dead Online, it would seem like they are going to do the same thing with the updates. Technically, GTA Online updates aren't technically DLC, but more like changes. Kinda like how Minecraft updates work, or updates to many MMORPG games. They still expand on to the game, but work differently in terms of distribution and marketing. For one, they call them updates, and not DLC. DLC is more optional than updates. So if Red Dead Online and GTA Online get continuous updates sorta like how updates to Minecraft or many MMORPG games work, then I believe that Rockstar will switch off each month between RD O and GTA O. In this case, I feel like the GTA Online updates will stop near the time when the next GTA releases. Then the update will come out for the next GTA's version of GTA Online. Heck, we may even be able to transfer our characters from GTA V's Online to the next GTA's Online.

has mrross made a video about this subject already?

Oh, maybe about ten all about the same topic, each one being roughly 10 minutes.

OT: No, of course not, they are too different to replace one another. Besides, a lot of people (namely kids who don't want to give up their sports cars and jets) wouldn't be happy with going back in time to an older version of GTA.

Dumbest f*cking thing I've read all day, or all week, or in this section.

I have a feeling there will be a sign months before GTAO goes offline, like shark cards will not be sold anymore since the buyers would complain that months after they bought shark cards the game stopped working online. Or an patch/update that totally screws up the gameplay and won't be fixable.

Who knows? It works today so I'll just enjoy it while it lasts.

I gues that when red dead launches gta online will be dead and no more updates. They cant handle 2 milk cows at once.
