It's really not a wager, it's just a way of ensuring that you eventually leave these forums and that there will be one less troll like you hanging around and dragging down real conversation.

*facepalm.

So im a troll because you either (A) don't like how i type.... and (B) don't like my point of view. And ( C ) Have no f*ckin sense of humor.

..

My offer for BJs to homeless people still stands tho.. They need love too ya know.

#HomelessBJs4U

You can look through my posting history and see that the only time I ever take issue with someone who disagrees with me is when they make smart ass comments or assert authority which they don't have. Otherwise I'll sit and debate all day long without losing my cool.

You ARE a troll and I'm certainly not the only person to think so. You speak in absolutes, you blatantly resist evidence that contradicts your opinion, and you disrespect anyone who disagrees with you just on the basis of disagreement. Everything you're accusing me of, you are guilty of, and I merely feed it right back to you - except there is evidence supporting my theories.

Anyway, I'm going to take the advice that someone PMed to me regarding you... and just ignore you from now on. Peace.

It will until it stops making money. Red Dead sold last time around half the copies GTA IV did. Brokeback mountain simulators have limited appeal, the game will be a flash in the pan compared to GTAO. If you think GTAO will stop updating you are nuts. And I mean it'll continue on as long as Rockstar is a working company.

So you think RDR is 'gay'... And thats your reasoning on why GTA O will keep getting updates and be put it in direct competition with each other?

Which in turn hurts both franchises... and the investors.

Ya.. makes total sense.

RDR2 is supposed to be getting a Super Bowl Add.. thats big money hype. for a big money game..

And you think im nuts? Lol?

I think you're overly minimizing the appeal of RDR... but you're not wrong.

GTA IV sold over 25 million copies in 5 years.

RDR sold 14 million copies in 5 years.

By comparison, GTA V sold 29 million copies in SIX WEEKS.

Since 2013, GTA V has sold 65 MILLION copies.

Combined sales of RDR and GTAIV is about 39 million. So GTA V has almost DOUBLE the sales of both RDR and GTAIV. I'm sure that's counting people who purchased the game a second or third time, but it's still a much higher number of original sales.

Analysts predict RDR2 will sell around 15 million, but that's admittedly a conservative estimate.

Now, Rockstar didn't release actual player numbers for their biggest month ever regarding GTA Online - that's December 2016 - but they did release a stat that says over 11 million NEW CEO organizations were started.

11 MILLION... NEW organizations. That's 11 million on top of the ones that already existed before December.

That means, at the VERY minimum, 11 million DIFFERENT people logged in to GTA Online just in December alone, and we're not even counting the number of players that already had CEO organizations established PRIOR to December, because we don't know that number.

There is very little chance RDR2 will match these numbers, and very little chance that Rockstar will abandon their cash cow. RDR2 will be an amazing game, but it's not going to sell as well.

If we're assuming that ALL GTA players will adopt RDR2, well, there's no evidence to support that. 11 million people LESS bought RDR than bought GTA IV... there was not a significant player carry-over, so why is anyone assuming things will be different this time?

Not many people are into being a cowboy, the sales just wont be there. The polls on this forum already show whats going to happen. GTAO is so much more diverse by nature, it's the game every other studio aims to better, it's the style gamers have been dreaming of since the 80s, open world current time games will _always_ be the pinnacle of gaming, right now Rockstar have the torch, damm sure they wont give up on it. If EA's game blows it out of the water in 2021 maybe Rockstar can concentrate on niche versions like red dead then.

RDR has been a slow build.. and is now a LEGENDARY game.. GTA didn't just start selling like hot cakes right out the gate. RDR did sell better then the 1st two GTAs did.

This is gonna be R*s 1st current gen game. Big money... big hype.. big game.

. The polls on this forum already show whats going to happen.

Polls? The only poles I trust are stripper poles.

Polls always lie... They do no reflect the masses. Id like to think TRUMP is a testament to that.

I mean.. sure.. I would just assume most people here are super GTA fans.. so they will have bias view of the whole thing. But what evs... game is gonna be HUUUGE!

The big, green numbers that the media is quick to hype actually measure the relative increase in sales ranking position, which doesn't correlate directly to actual unit sales levels.

The polls on this forum only represent the users in this forum that particpated in the poll- BUT, given that the polls were placed right in the very center of GTAV fanboy headquarters, and a vast majority of poll takers indicated no intention of abandoning GTAO permanently (or even at all), you can take relative assurance that a similar trend will be seen among the general public.

Look, I'm a big RDR fan and my intention is not to sh*t talk the game. I personally think it's a better game than GTAIV or V, a game that sticks in my memory than either of the latter.

But I'm trying to be realistic. GTA just has more appeal. It covers broad swaths of pop culture and is very inclusive. RDR is a cowboy game. Not nearly as many people are gonna identify with an old rough and tumble western gun slinger.

"Not only was it not our intention that GTA Online was permanent, but it's important that it not be permanent,” says Zelnick. "We have to rest the franchise at some point"

The launch of RDR2(O) certainly would seem like an appropriate time to 'rest' the GTA franchise.

That's as obvious as daylight. But some people keep mumbling about how much money GTAO still gives in shark cards and thinking it'll be eternal. They don't seem to know that R* needs people to move on from GTAO (where shark cards are optional) to RDR2 (a brand new game you'd have to buy entirely) at some point. And yes, that's easier to achieve if GTAO stops being pushed hard with big updates and content.

I also agree with this, and feel that stopping updates and moving on from GTA Online would benefit Rockstar. Honestly, if I was in their shoes, I would feel like GTA Online is confining us, imprisoning us, sucking up all our efforts like a black hole. I'd want to develop other games to add more variety to our lineup, so that we aren't seen as a one-trick pony, a one-hit wonder known only for the GTA franchise and nothing else.

If they keep bringing cool to stuff GTAO at the same pace as they do to RDR2, many people won't jump ship to RDR2.

That's bad for business.

Welp Vooodu, I guess you can stick a fork in this thread.

Also during the call, Zelnick was asked what he thinks about the potential for GTA Online and Red Dead Redemption 2's online mode to potentially compete for players.

"I'm fond of saying entertainment is an unusual animal, in that entertainment properties don't really compete with other entertainment properties," Zelnick said. "You never need entertainment. Entertainment is something that you want to have, but it's not a need to have. If nothing in the market appeals to you at some time, there is no reason to go and get it, and if multiple things appeal to you, avid consumers will consume all of those things.

"So, I don't think there is any competitive dynamic with any of our upcoming releases, apart from the fact that our success is driven by quality. So I think the success of [Red Dead Redemption 2], which is highly anticipated, will be driven by its quality, and I think that the ongoing success of Grand Theft Auto Online is driven by its extraordinary quality."

http://www.gamespot.com/articles/red-dead-redemption-2-take-two-talks-competition-w/1100-6447645/

In other words, exactly what I've been telling you all along... was correct. Sorry bro, RDRO ain't gonna dethrone or replace GTAO.

Ya il stick a fork in it.. Right next to that awesome single player DLC that R* was supposedly working on..

HAhahaha...

Im sorry but what exactly does any of that prove? Sounds like a business man skirting around the truth..

I personally would love to buy and play RDR2 (hopefully coming on the PC a year after its release on the consoles according to the R* leaker)--but seeing as it's more time-locked than GTA Online (can only draw fresh content from older weaponry, vehicles, etc.) I have to wonder how R* plans on adding "fresh" new DLC over the span of even several years, without boring its players? ("hey look; another cowboy revolver to the 12 we have already..."). The only way to do this is to allow some future time-span additions, rejecting the game's time-locked setting.

GTA Online can draw on new vehicles/weaponry/clothing AND add old vehicles like the Roosevelt, weapons like the Musket and the Gusenberg Sweeper, etc....how do you generate exciting content for years in a "cowboys and Indians" setting?

It does not need to generate tons of useless content for several years.. It need to only add quality content.. and thats it. Quality is always better then quantity.

Besides.. Id just assume the life span of RDR2 content is about 2 years at TOPs.. GTA 6 will be out by then...

I mean, id like to have a real Current gen GTA.

Of course two games from the same publisher aren't going to compete for players lol, if anything it seems more likely a passing of the torch to san diego so the rockstar north guys can get all hands on deck working on GTAVI/GTAO2.

GTAO isn't going to disappear from existence once RDRed2 comes out but the focus on updates and events is going to lean very heavily towards RDRO the same way RDRed1 multi replaced the GTA episodes on the newswire then MP3 multi replaced RDR and of course you know what happened to MP3 once GTAO released.

When people bring up that they wouldn't stop updates because it's their main source of income I think we're forgetting that R* hasn't released a new game in 3 years. When there's nothing new to show from a publisher that used bring out new games on near annual basis of course the updates were going to keep flowing. Now that there's finally a new game that's estimated to sell at least 15 million copies and will have a multiplayer component that is likely to build on the groundwork of GTAO I don't think they're worrying moneywise about the gap until GTAVI.

Let them move on and focus on GTAO2 now. Even if they do have the manpower to keep the big updates going I wouldn't want them to. Don't want them to blow their load of new ideas on one game, save something for the sequel.

They're stopping ALL transfers. Believe it or not, some people may actually want to transfer their cheated account from cg to pc. R doesn't want that. Hence cg>pc transfers will be disabled too. They're not done with pc, remember back then when 5 was announced? ps3 and 360, no pc. And what a surprise, it did come out on pc later on. Who'd have expected that..

As long as people spend money on it they will support the game. At least till gta 6

I disagree.. GTA needs a cool down. It make no sense to burn people out and pump out new content right till GTA 6.

I get it.. Some people are super fans.. But no matter what R* add's NOTHING compares to a new GTA game.

That new fresh feeling.. new roads.. new music.. new world. You only get that with a new GTA.

I read the title and thought to myself... "why the f*ck..." look dude or dudette. RDR2 is going to be a sandbox game based on America's wildwest. No machine guns, no rockets, no cars, no jets, no millions invested in CEO businesses or motorcycle clubs. You'll get a horse. A revolver. A shotgun. A rifle. How the f*ck do you think you can compare the two? That's like trying to compare Ken Block to your grandmother... or apples to oranges. They are both made by the same company. But it's two different worlds. One past. One present. I just don't see how they can be compared. I've played gta since 3. Love em. Picked up RDR a few years ago. Blew through it and hated almost all of it. The zombie thing was kind of cool, but the genre, the style, wasn't my cup of bourbon.

Its more like comparing Gangster Movies to Wild West Movies.. Its that not that deep IMO.

Adding more cars guns to GTA does nothing for me.. Id prefer more areas.. Which really. Only a new GTA game can offer.

We both know they can stop the modded money flowing up the transfers by stopping ps3 and 360 transfer only. They are doing this to lock the cash cows into ps4 and x1, ie they are giving up on PC.
