Red Dead Online will be put in place of GTA Online in 2017?

From a few days there is confirmed not only that Red Dead Redemption is in a production and that it will be launched next year, but also that theres gonna be online mode called Red Dead Online, which is very likely to be simillar to GTA Online (its not just the title itself, but also fact that R* earned alot from GTA O).

So, thats just my theory - does it mean that GTA Online will be highly supported till Red Dead Online and after that Rockstar will focus just on RDR O?

I think it is very likely that GTA Online will retire after Red Dead Redemption 2/ Online launch in the end of 2017. What do you think?

Just a total guess here, but I wouldn't be surprised if Online updates for GTA stopped sometime next year, and that was my guess even before the Red Dead announcement. At some point, Rockstar is going to move on.

Hopefully I'm wrong, but I'm not too concerned either way. I plan on playing GTA Online well after the final update.

As long as Shark Cards exist GTAO will never retire.

Rockstar will balance their time between the two and delegate accordingly.

That Spring 2017 end date that Yan leaked seems more plausible now. I can imagine it being taxing trying to maintain and evolve both GTA Online and RDR Online at the same time.

I can see the logic on shifting focus and concentrating on one online game of this scale at a time, but aren't GTA and RDR developed by different divisions of R*?

It was my understanding that GTA is mainly Rockstar North while Red Dead is Rockstar San Diego. Sure, the Housers will be heavily involved in any new developments but the dev teams would be run by different project leads.

Of course, it's probably wise on R*'s part to slow/stop new updates on GTAO so the incentive for the playerbase to migrate to RDO is increased but i'm just speculating without anything to go on here. :)

I can see all the kiddies migrating to RDR, finding out there were no hypercars, fighter jets, super yachts, or high end apartments in the 1910's, and then running back to GTA Online to reunite with their modern-day toys.

Unlikely. Even without any further updates they will keep GTAO ticking over possibly well into the next decade. It's printing money after all.

Cheeze-wiz H kites people. With the amount of money R* continues to pull in from GTAO and the money they potentially stand to make from RDRO I think they can afford to hire a few extra programmers to dedicate to each specific games continued development.

As long as GTAO is a cash cow for them, they will continue to support and develop it.

You're like the Nostra-dumbasses of the GTA community with all your end of times predictions every time a news item that doesn't specifically state GTAO will get continued support pops up.

Just because one game comes out doesn't mean you have to stop playing Gtao. Eventually updates will stop but I played IV online for 5 years after TLATD...leave if you want I'm playing till I can no longer get my save data from Rockstar.

It's totally different setups. So I really don't think RDO will replace GTAO.

They could stop adding content to GTAO, but it won't close for sure.

A little far-fetched.

The Red Dead Series and Grand Theft Auto Series both have their own fanbases and communities and I highly doubt Red Dead: Online is going to replace the stature of GTA: Online. Obviously there will be a drop in active players on GTA: Online just like when every other multiplayer game drops, but if majority of the active players are going directly to Red Dead: Online, the Rockstar Servers will still be receiving the players.

People like modern-day shooting, cars and cities.

People like Western shooting, horses and shanty-towns.

I wonder if a lot more people would leave gtao the game would become more sh*tty or more stable...

I reckon it'd be more sh*tty up until Christmas '17 and then become more stable due to the migration of prepubescent children who scream 'sherk coards' and got RDR2 for Christmas.

I honestly have no idea what they could do with RD:O that could be as profitable as GTA:O. Modern times just have a much wider variety of content that can be added without making the game ridiculous, and even if you forgo that, there's only so many flaming horses and unicorns that you can add to the game without it going stale. While there's no reason to doubt that RD:O will be a fun and enjoyable multiplayer mode, I just don't see it being nearly as profitable as GTA:O.

I'm not really worried tbh.Like Coleco said, different divisions of Rockstar

has mrross made a video about this subject already?

Oh, maybe about ten all about the same topic, each one being roughly 10 minutes.

OT: No, of course not, they are too different to replace one another. Besides, a lot of people (namely kids who don't want to give up their sports cars and jets) wouldn't be happy with going back in time to an older version of GTA.

Well if updates stop coming but the game remains playable, there is at least one good thing about that..

People will no longer have to worry about "future-proofing" their in-game bank accounts. All there'll be left to do is just have fun with the various available activities instead of endlessly grinding for cash.

I mean, I'd prefer still getting updates, but one relatively bad thing does come with at least one good thing.

If it has dedicated servers, that would be a killer for me. But I doubt it.

You expect waaay too much.

It's not ending.

Rdr isn't a housewhole name like gta.

Everyone knows what is gta even ppl in their 40's i.e. Parents

Rdr is still new so yes there is a fan base but it's not large as gta or known widely as gta.

Gta online updates won't stop maybe till gta 6 comes around. R* ain't that dumb to pull the plug on something that is generating money.

Gta is the only game that still sells $40 or $50 after 3 years. So no it's not ending anytime soon.

Smooth Longsack

GTA is their flagship game. RDR won't generate half as much revenue as shark cards do currently. I'm not worried. I'm excited for hooker/horse glitch though.
