  1. 1. When in "Fall 2017" will RDR2 release?

Recommended Posts

Yes, someone really did make a thread about this.

When do you think it'll be released? [Or better yet, officially announced? (As these are teasers and don't count)

EDIT: it's been confirmed for Fall 2017! When in Fall 2017? I dunno.

Spring 2017 ;)

Maybe.

Depends on how long they've been working on it. If they started after they released V for CG (or maybe even PC), it'll probably be a while.

Chinese Takeout

I'm going to be optimistic and say June 1st, 2018.

The average number of months from ANNOUNCEMENT to RELEASE (counting delays) for every Rockstar game since GTA4 is 20 months. So, I'm going to give them the benefit of the doubt that they will not go past this number. Here's hoping!

June 1st, 2018. CalLing it.

Since "fall 2017" has been announced, I've added a little poll for the possible months to see what people predict most.

October 17th, 2017 if it's not delayed.

October 2017. Based on what we found in R*'s employee profiles on LinkedIn, it's apparent that they've been developing the game for a long time that it's in a good shape which requires no delays. It's probably been in full production for a year or so now.

The Rockstar open world games are a work of art, and as such, the designers find that they can just keep improving and layering new levels of detail and realistic effects over them, iteratively, like true art. Aaron Garbut has basically stated exactly this about GTAV. The result is that deadlines are almost sure to be missed, as the artistic team just keeps making improvements that can't be resisted, until shareholder pressure builds to an intolerable level.

So the delays for such wonderful improvements are OK with me, as the beauty and detail of this kind of game are the most fantastic aspect.

However, given the 20+ months we will have to wait, if we have the same kind of info drought as Rockstar marketing trolled us with on GTAV, I am going to hate them 10 times worse than I hate them now, and I didn't think that was even possible. When I was a kid, the 2 months until Xmas were excruciating. Rockstar's 20 months are 10 times worse. To fix this, Rockstar should have at least monthly drops of sets of juicy RDR2 screenshots, gameplay trailers some teasing cutscenes, and unfolding substantial info tidbits about game content.

The other shame of it all is that the story and scriptwriters will have all that extra time, and they'll waste it, if GTAV is any indication.

Well October would be nice, I'd laugh if it came out on my birthday like a certain Pokemon game did.

I think it could get delayed until Winter 2017 though, or maybe even Spring 2018. Which is why I won't pre-order it, until we're much closer..... have to guarantee I have a copy waiting for me after all.
