I would have made it so Edgar Ross was actually wanting to spare Marston after he reunited with his family. The whole theme of government killing the West and honor would have been amplified if Edgar was a victim of the government rather than a personification of it.

It would have been better if everything was ruined for Marston a large group of people rather than just one corrupt asshole. The idea of the government as this ominous, unstoppable force was kind of muddled when the writers gave it a human face.

Yes. John dying the way he did was so poetic and I quite liked Jack's stand off with Ross,

I thought it was an okay ending. Good game overall though.

I liked the ending but would have liked an option to play as john again after getting 100%. Would have loved a reverse Jack attack cheat after the ending even an alternate ending based on your honour. Example:Having good honour gets you the ending we currently have but having bad honour triggers an ending where John runs away with his family instead of earning his redemption by sacrificeing himself. Anyways cant wait for red dead redemption 2.

The ending had a purpose and it served said purpose. I thought they tried to do something similar in LA Noire, but the emotion and bond between player and protagonist wasn't really there, you were too focused on solving cases. The transition into Jack is jarring, you miss John a lot - well, so does Jack.

it was a great ending, but..

i wonder what it couldve been like if instead of john dying, abigail and jack do and john is forced to run and he tracks down edgar instead of jack and you play on as john with nothing to lose and nothing to live for

I must be one of the few people who liked playing with Jack and his nerd rage.

Could do without the "WARK YA DAMN NAG" though. I'm like, "c'mon, I payed two dollars so I could get the Warhorse for you and you still call it a damn nag." :(

I get why he's mean to the horses though, I feel like he blames them for not being able to get back to the ranch in time to save his dad. Total nerd rage.

I didn't love it, but with some as epic as RDR, I don't think there can be a "good" ending. One thing I don't like is being stuck as Jack afterwards, and that only he can wear certain outfits.

After doing another playthrough, I came to like Jack over time, through the game he misses John, as do we the player, I always feel bad for him when he mentions John during a shootout or whatever, he became everything his father didn't want him to be, I just wish we got to see Abigail's last moments, I'm glad Jack didn't run out on her. I'm working on a fan fic about Jack and his time as an outlaw in the states and his time settling down in Mexico, having a family, and dying of old age.

It was a sad but great ending.

Jack became everything he's father didn't want him to be. Poetic.

The ending was awesome, but it would be better if the game told you what happened to Jack rather than leaving it up to the player. I like to think Jack became what John and Abigail wanted him to be, rather than what John was, although Rockstar clearly don't want it to be that way. The ending is morally evil as it shows an endless cycle of pain and suffering. Once Jack seeks revenge he will end up how John was all throughout the game and then end up dead like John seeking redemption for his revenge, and then he will pass that on to his children and their children until the cycle is broken. In short, RDR is poetic genius.

I only hope the next game will match up to this masterpiece.

No, it was heartbreaking. Still loved the game and story as a whole but damn how can they do John like that :(

John's death was f*cking powerful no doubt. However, I thought the whole revenge thing with Jack could have been handled better. Maybe there should have been a single-player DLC where Ross is still working with the Bureau, and the entire focus is Jack trying to get revenge on him. It would have given us far more investment with Jack than just a short duel that's over within seconds.

a little off topic but if you finish the game can you still do the strangers and freaks missions and challenges you haven't completed? also does random encounters still trigger after you've completed the game.

All except "I Know You" and Jack has slightly different dialogue than John when doing the S&F missions.

I liked the ending.. but I didn't like playing as Jack.

I always load the saved game with Marston still alive. (right before the ending)

The ending was good, certainly unexpected, for me at least.

Looking back at it, I probably should have seen it coming, but I was young and stupid.

Didn't like Jack one bit, so my vote went for So-so.

I gave it stick at the time. I thought it was a bit cliched to go for the bad ending. Although I've written stuff with bad endings. I think it's a rebellious phase writers go through to try break the norm and convention.

I think it's memorable and it did do something new. It was shocking, sad and made me angry. Over time I grew to like it more and I thank Rockstar for pushing the envelope.

The story was centred around the government and how they will always f*ck you over I fail to see how it was stupid.

The part where they kidnap your family. It just doesn't feel like much of a government thing to do. Mafia did the same at one point in the story and I've always found it hard to swallow.

Another thing... so the agents send out one man to track down and kill all those people, travelling across the whole country... Did they really expect him to succeed in such a task, usually with no support? Sure it's enough to kickstart the story but still somewhat blatantly video-gamey. I mean what would they do if he just got killed? Shrug and let go of the idea to ever get those gang members to justice? It's just odd.

It would be more fitting if that was a competition gang kidnapping your family and threatening you. The government agents could then get involved in some other way. They could still need to get rid of John at the end in order to clean up so that part wouldn't need to change and it could also be more unexpected. Such as it is, we know those agents are corrupt right from the start.

uhhh....its a video game dude. suspend your disbelief. what in the hell is the matter with these new gamers?

Not to mention three years have passed since commencing the task which is even more bizarre. What have they been doing all that time? lol

I don't mind Jack. He certainly isn't John but now I can do the questionable things without feeling like I'm going against the intent of John as a character. It feels okay about racking up Bounties and killing my way out of them

I did... In the end.

Back in the beginning, I was a little miffed by it, but after learning the game, making saves to play as either John or Jack, I can easily say it was a really memorable ending... Again, more-so than GTA, any of 'em, to date.

Just felt unique, though I do hope RDR2 allows for the old formula... Live and be free after, invest and immerse, but to keep on trucking after the story... Then this game will feel even more unique to me, plus, IMO, to do the same thing would be daft...

Imagine, if in RDR2, John gets told to kill our new main protagonist... The Scandal!.

Great ending. Would have been better had Jack been a better character to play on with though.

Actually, i did like the ending. Although it made lots of people, (including me), tear up, it was a really good ending especially for a cowboy video game.

The ending was great. Played out like an old Mexican corrido ballad. Especially when you eventually get your revenge.
