Suddenly a voice actor, who even only had two words recorded, knows when we will get news and it's going to be in E3. Be real, this guy knows nothing, but sure he loves the attention he's been given lately.

Might be, but hey, at least what he said isn't too unrealistic.

(Given Rockstar's history) and how they handle information release and marketing, it's as unrealistic as saying news would drop once I send this post.

Don't see why (meant the E3 part). I think RDR2 might be at E3 with Sony, Sony seems to be really invested in the partnership. But I do believe we will get something before then that actually kicks off the campaign.

Yeah, some disconnects in that short email. As Kirsty said, why would a guy with "two words" in RDR2 know anything about Rockstar marketing plans, or the rest of the game, especially, for example, the map? To prove legitimacy of this source, we need one tiny unique piece of corroborating evidence that could only come from an insider.

E3 would be weird for them, no? Not just cause of the usual Rockstar don't go to E3, but it's a fairly poor way to get meaty information out about your game, it's mostly just trailers and gameplay videos to everyone who doesn't attend. Even if true, I think we'll hear something before then.

Agree, E3 doesn't make sense for Rockstar. Why would they be part of a week of big gaming news? That's not how Rockstar rolls.

That's simply not true. Since 2001 Rockstar has had plenty of appearances at E3 from exclusive trailers and gameplay reveals to booths and buses set up on the show floor. The only thing that has really changed is that Rockstar's output has dwindled to a single title and unless they've got a partnership with one of the big 3, IE Sony and the GTAV bundle, there's little point to show up.

But let's nip this whole "Rockstar don't do E3" thing as its factually false.

I think the argument here should be whether E3 will be the "start" of the marketing campaign, or just as a bonus a long the way. I agree it makes sense for RDR2 to appear at E3 with Sony after we've got new a trailer or perhaps a GI cover, but as the first bit of information since the announcement? I definitely wouldn't agree that's a good place to start.

Virus..

I think the game being unveiled at E3 to be perfect. That way more people will know about it.. Since E3 will be open to the public. If rockstar wows with a bit of gameplay they might break records yet again at release. Hoping its not delayed.

They can show up at E3 in some form or another, but they won't wait for that moment and, aha, here's a new a look into RDR2.

Oh, that we can agree on. Yeah, I don't think they'll be starting at E3, at least I hope not.

A user on Twitter (@marcelo0g111) has DMed our RedDeadNet account saying he sent a private message to Ethan Korver to ask what his "two words" were.

He replied to say they were "Howdy" and "Wait".

...maybe he's trying to tell us something, lmao.

It's still working here, I can see it. Maybe just an imgur server issue.

Edit: Nevermind, it was removed. Could be because it contains email (not IP, lol) addresses? The Liberty City leak wasn't removed, nor was the RDR2(?) one and they're hosted on imgur.

But let's nip this whole "Rockstar don't do E3" thing as its factually false.

A key reason they go with GI (they did it with IGN for GTA:O too if I recall) is most likely because it's still one of the vest best ways to get A LOT of information out about your game. Characters, their motivations, the world, the locations what you can do, all that types of stuff. E3 is dominated by cut-heavy trailers and vertical slice gameplay demos. They either give very vague information about what you can do and what you're going to see, or give you a very condensed and directed view of what you can do, which is something Rockstar never really does, not publicly anyway.

We're reading a lot out of an email from a guy who may or may not have a tiny role in the game, but if we're to assume he is implying the big blow out is at E3 then that would be a very, very new thing for Rockstar. But a new trailer or a wee bit of information? Perfectly possible of course.

Typical of the rockstar intelligence agency, they got insiders within the walls of imgur hq.

To add on to Jason's point, the other big reason for a GI cover would be they can kinda control the wording of the piece a bit more. When just about every person on the internet can have their voices heard and do their own "review", this takes away a bit of the spontaneity. GI are also likely to be very much full of praise about the game and focus all the attention on the great aspects, whilst simultaneously avoiding talking about any negative aspects.

This is for two reasons. The first is that they are as much 'selling' themselves (in the magazine) as they are 'selling' the game. They are unlikely to start to trash their main cover feature for the month. Instead they will make out as if its the greatest thing since sliced bread. Which is difficult because sliced bread is amazing, but I digress. The other reason because that they want this partnership with Rockstar to continue. If they were to have a less than ideal feature story, not necessarily a negative one but even just one that doesn't "do the game justice" than Rockstar may think twice about who covers their next big release.

The Game Informer window is ever shrinking and honestly, next month included, we're looking at 5 more issues for a chance of RDR2. 3 of those are guranteed to be taken by Destiny 2, Call of Duty and E3...so essentially we've got 2 chances. Lol Either it's in April, May, June or August. July will be the E3 issue.

Aye. No reason to worry that it's not one of those months/covers just yet as GI aren't going to turn down RDR2... But it's still a bit worrying when we're all so used to delays.

The upside is that it might not be GI but Edge Magazine who breaks the silence. They've done so before with previous Rockstar titles.

The image is gone - it does not load in the GTAF page 205 any more. Probably because it contained un-redacted email addresses, but we can be conspiratorial and blame Rockstar ;)

Good point, we focus a lot on GI but there were also a lot of foreign language magazines that were revealing unseen stuff at the time as well. Wasn't there a French magazine site that broke some screenshots of V before anyone else?

From memory it was a screen of Trevor on a jetski - who we had seen previously when all the Game Store posters started popping up online (Trevor on the ATV, Franklin with Chop). I think it was leaked a day or two before the GameInformer article revealed the multiple protagonists.

The picture has been added to the Treasure Hunt summary in the pinned part of this forum. I redacted the email addresses and names (except Ethan's) in case that was why it was removed. I have a backup of the original.

I know a lot of people assume Rockstar want to avoid a reveal that coincides with other big gaming releases, but this one tomorrow sounds like the perfect storm for them.

Look at what's happening with Mass Effect Andromeda, with it's weird soft-launch trial period being met with either praise or disregard by early reviewers (it truly is all over the place, ranging from 50-95/100 score range). Ultimately, it seems like the game is launching with a whole lot of "ugh what the heck is going on with this beloved franchise" sort of questions being thrown around. It seems like a real wet blanket.

Then here comes Rockstar, as confident as ever, whipping out a screenshot like a pornstar whips out his dick. "Look at what we've got." And the audience gasps.

I thought the two words were going to be "Yep" and "Nope." That would answer a lot of questions.
