Red Dead Redemption 2: Discussion & Speculation (Part 1)

I had a few thoughts about the story that I'd like to share:

1.What about The Stranger returning? I don't see a reason why he shouldn't. Would be cool to see someone else with him other than Marston. He wouldn't need to be the same person though.

The rest involve the realitionship with Arthur and John.

2. I could see John and Arthur as good friends. Perhaps Arthur will even teach John a few gun tricks in a mission where you would be introduced to dead-eye. That would also explain where John got his dead-eye level 1 from,

3. If this game has the changing point of the gang, I don't think we'd see Arthur staying with the gang. A part of me thinks that Dutch will actually be one of the antagonists of this game. Maybe Arthur leaves the gange even before the failed robbery, seeing as the gang is turning into something much worse they once were. This would make Dutch really angry and could drive the gang into even more madness. After that point Arthur would be on the run from the gang, If that was to happen I'd love a scene where John finds Arthur but spares him. Arthur could try and convince him to leave the gang which John would refuse. That would of course lead to the failed robbery of 1906.

I think this would be great for the player who has never played a red dead game before and only play RDR after RDR2. That's enough of my rambling. Also: Let's hope the news we get are worth it.

There are quite a few indications that the game will take place before 1906 though, by at least 7 years. Also it wouldn't be R*'s style of storytelling to make Arthur and John best buddies. It's too easy and rather cliché.

Don't expect John to have too much of an important role in rdr2 either. This story is about the "outlaw" Arthur Morgan first and foremost.

But these are my opinions of course.

It is rather cliché I'll have to agree but I'd still like Arthur and John to have respect for each other and explaing his John's dead-eye level 1 would be neat. I do agree that John shouldn't be that important in red dead redemption 2, I'd just like enough to make new players interested what happens to him. Even though I made John be really important to the story there, I think a few moments of him throught the game like this would be enough.

I don't know much about when the gang started turning mad but perhaps Arthur left the group long before the robbery (6-7 years) when only the first signs of the gang changing to the worse started happening. The woman in the second trailer telling Arthur (presumably) that she's the only one she trusts seems to apply that at least to me. The title of the game would also make more sense. These are just some late night rambles though.

You've got some good points, I'll admit. But the way I see is that Arthur won't be even part of Dutch's gang but rather has a gang of his own that will work together with Dutch and his gang. But the two gangs will eventually clash.

I think the woman from the trailer you mentioned is part of Arthur his own gang.

Yeah, having John more than 5 missions would be overkill in my opinion. I think the will have mutual respect for each other, but nothing more.

Why do some people think that Arthur has his own gang which works for/with Dutch's gang? Is it just because of R*'s text "(...) Arthur Morgan and the Van Der Linde Gang"? (If this is the reason, i think R* wrote that this way, because Arthur is the main protagonist)

OK, so I got it figured out now. Rockstar liked the dynamics of GTAV single player so well, they're gonna do it again for RDR2.

 

Young John Marston will be a character like Franklin, Arthur will be like Trevor, and Dutch will be like Michael. The story will be a half-assed attempt at artificial, unrealistic drama among them. The native American guy will be Arthur's co-conspirator, like Ron.

I actually just said this in another thread. I’m convinced the gang takes place when the gang was falling apart (1905-1906) if only for the reason that it’s the most interesting time for it to take place.

 

Remember that hate piece of dialogue where Edgar Ross says “you robbed 40 banks” and John says “They told me there was a prize when we got to 50” I think it would be a great to have a PS Trophy or Xbox achievement called “What’s the prize?” For if you rob 50 banks in free roam.

Anthony Macbain was involved in creating the key artwork for Red Dead Redemption, but it looks like he also left Rockstar last year going by his LinkedIn.

Looks like he left in September last year so it's likely he already contributed everything and enough for RDR2 if it's been cooking since 2013.

 

So I wouldn't worry. The GTA Online arts for the treasure hunt and Doomsday Heist still retain the usual Rockstar flair.

On topic, yes, I love the informative, substantial trailers, even if they are sometimes a bit misleadingly edited, to punch up the hype. GTAV did deliver.

Please don't compare Agent to this when agent never even got any official screenshots or trailers. I do agree that they're awfully quiet about the game and that's what's making everyone nervous but we can't jump to conclusions just yet. These next couple of days leading up to the call will reveal either good or bad news.

Yes, this exactly. I'm a pessimist when it comes to R*'s marketing/release schedules, but this has me completely baffled. When the treasure hunt was leaked from the in game files, I was sure we would be getting something substantial in Dec, for Christmas/New year's, like they did with past games. But we got nothing.

Moreover, it's 28 days into Jan, and we still don't have anything. It's like nothing I've seen before.

Yup. ^ I don't understand it either. Screenshots could have at least been released occasionally. It's not a trailer where you have to edit and make sure certain things are not shown etc.. So I don't get it, R* screwing the fans over with this one imo.

We were never promised nothing but then don't delay a game because it just needs some extra work, and then have nothing to show for it.. especially when they know damn well the hype.

Like I said in the othere thread, there are some key factors that seem to claim otherwise. In 1906 the old west was already dying for a few years. I think rdr2 will take place in the heydays.
