but stranger things have happened before already.

Yeah I hear the next season is in production right now, and is coming along quite well.

But seriously, I have been thinking about this for quite a while: surely R* has decided upon a release date already. If we assume this to be true, there are two cases here:

First case: the game will indeed release in spring. In this case, they have absolutely no reason to not tell us about it the moment they finalised it. R* is glad to have a final date, the fans are glad to hear it, and of course, so are the investors. Everyone's happy.

But now, consider the second case: The game has been delayed and won't release in spring. What now? The investors are going to be unhappy, they will want an explanation, and stocks will take a sharp hit. So would it be a good idea to announce the release date now, and leave the investors fuming for lack of an explanation, or to announce it a day before the investors call and explain it the very next day?

This is exactly what they did with gtav, and I don't see why it shouldn't happen this time around too.

One argument to this theory is that R* could at least release some screens/trailers now, and then announce a release date *just* before the call. I would like to hear some more arguments supporting/rejecting my claim, if anybody has any :)

This makes total sense.

I think the answer to your last argument is that if Rockstar releases some content now then pretty much we all would assume and so will the investors that the game is slated to release in Spring. That would piss the investors off even more if they release a trailer with Spring on it and then delay it in just 10days from now.

Your theory pretty much confirms a delay!

Makes no sense to release news about the game and then later confirm release date.

Again the earnings call is focused on the financials. They don’t talk about news or announce news in these discussions and Q&A session from analysts

Next weekend you will get news and release date because it’s the perfect setting to heat up the market for the earnings release

They don't normally give info in the weekends I think.

We know R* will deliver a masterpiece, I'm so exited to see what R* can do on this current generation consoles. But on the other hand, they don't really care for the hardcore fans and fans in general by announcing a game 16 months ago and until now we don't have a specific release date, that's somehow reckless.

Verdict - we have Stockholm syndrome.

Yeah, this could be it. It would be weird to release some info about the game now, and then suddenly announce the delay a few days later. This confirms my theory, at least in my opinion.

I don't ever expect RDR 2 will ever come out as long as that cash cow GTA Online keeps getting milked, if Rockstar gave a sh*t about the fans and not how fat their pockets are getting they would've released 2 or 3 games by now along with the Story DLC for GTA V

But they have not done this until now, so I'm thinking they will directly announce a delay, and moreover they will announce it *just* before the investors call. So yeah, according to me, no news before 5-6th feb. I know this is sorta pessimistic, but that's what I think. Edited by cynicaldevil

A delay to clean bugs and improve the overall look and performance is a good reason in my book. They're building a grand game and we expect grand results. That's not easy.

I know someone said this a few days ago, but it keeps repeating in my head so I'll say it again.

Man, it sure is going to be funny a few years from now after RDR2 is "old news" to come back here and skim through these pages and relive our despair.

I wonder what our opinions of this game we can't f*ckin wait to play will be by then.

On a side note: anyone realize how crazy it is that this thread is already at almost 1000 pages and we pretty much know about the same amount as we did on page 1? Albeit besides a few tid bits here and there.

Looks at Agent..

They are going to co-exist.

R* doesn't tell you what they're doing, or what's going on. They've always been like this, that is, silent until 4-5 months before release.

There is a wide variety of gunsmiths out there. I would love to see R* explore different gun manufacturers/Gunsmiths from around the world. There really is a lot R* Could do in terms of weaponry, im excited to see what they do.

I hope the guns they have are really cool but not necessarily that they have a lot of guns, if that makes sense. I feel some games can over complicate gameplay by having too many weapons. Fallout New vegas springs to mind.

In terms of what weapons I think we can expect to see in the game I recommend checking out the Wikipedia page for weapons in the spanish American war. The time period (1898) makes them all fairly likely candidates for inclusion. Some of the guns you’ll find there such as the Krag Jørgensen and the Colt M1892 are already confirmed, as well as the S&W model 3 (schofield). The Colt single action and the Mauser are also on this list

A delay is good? I can't believe some of you people are still **lickers. No! It's not good. They had plenty of time to fix all the bugs in the world.Don't forget how much money they have.
And are you still trying to search excuses for R*?
Sorry to say this but you guys deserve the sh*tty attitude that R* treats you.

Agreed with the fact that they have/had time and money enough.

Except AAA game development doesn't work like that.

In which way not?

You don't have all the time in the world to do things in AAA game development. It's not as easy as saying "oh but they had so much time". There's changes of plans, development problems, crunch time, all kinds of situations that may warrant a delay (or more time to complete when we don't have a release date). These games take years to make and sometimes they need more time because they need to meet standards, sometimes ever-changing standards. Not to mention, the more features a game has planned, the more stuff there's in its design documents to do, more bugs there will be - QA will take longer, so will take bug fixing because the code is more complex, etc, etc.

Rockstar aren't the perfect developer, they can be quite messy, but AAA game development is pretty tense and long nowadays, with ever-rising standards.

rockstar should stop announcing almost 2 years before they release

The first game was set for April and then on March 4 they announced it for May. I’m not saying we won’t get news, but for those of you expecting a release date we really may not know until the last minute.

I mostly agree with everything, but maybe it would be better if they up their communication a bit with their fans. It would eliminate alot of frustration we currently have.

If you want your product to be well received. It needs to be tested several times, I think if RDR2 is still on the rails for spring it is probably on the polishing and fixing bugs, after all it is an open world game and this it takes a long time.

Again, I agree. But it wouldn't hurt if they increase their communication with the fans.

I'm just wildly speculating here and perhaps one or two people here might have more insight on it, but given that game development is driven by goals and milestones and given how they waited till the last day of January to announce the delay for V despite promoting the game for Spring earlier in the month and that we seem to be going through something similar with RDR2, my guess is that they have a major milestone sometime in January that they wanted to make sure they hit before locking the games date in and announcing it, to avoid repeating what they did with GTA V.
