The name could've been more imaginative, but meh. It's a not a deal breaker.

The only thing I'm not sure of is the possibility of playing as multiple protagonists. The last true single protagonist game R* made was MP3. Even playing as Jack in RDR didn't feel right. Would rather play as one protagonist from start to finish, but it'll be interesting if the game does feature it if it'll be a similar switching mechanic to GTA V or something entirely different.

Metal Gear then later games were all titled Metal Gear Solid ("Solid Snake").Red Dead Redemption alone sold 14 million copies and Undead Nightmare was a massive success so the sequel titled Red Dead Redemption 2, is great!

Interesting...

"The game will take place in the same area as the original game, twelve years before the first original game. There will be three playable characters, two of which are from the original game and one will be completely new and will not have much story line, Ill explain in a second. The two "main" characters are Irish and Seth. Irish will be brought up in Ireland and will move to the Americas when he is fifteen and moves to the game setting when he turns twenty one. Seth is from Kansas City and works as a teller in a bank. He then hears of a treasure and uses his life savings to bring his family to Texas in the town of Tumbleweed. Throughout the story we experience him unraveling to his state of mind in the original game, losing his wife, children, home, and possessions to his treasure. The third person is a character you create similar to multiplayer in GTA V. You choose his clothes and horse. Although you can unlock outfits for Seth and Irish, the third person (Who you name) can acquire all different kinds of Western tops, bottoms, boots, gloves, and hats. Horses will also bring completely new customization to the game. You can choose there type/breed like the last game, but now you can also choose what saddle they have (with their own boosts and stats), storage, and paint. You can also buy your own safe house and customize it. Also, all of this carries over into multiplayer. There will be many new and more thought out stranger missions as well as roughly thirty campaign missions for both Seth and Irish. The third character can be involved in the campaign, but can not be used in missions. He will appear as a "gun for hire" and works with Seth and Irish, tying the stories together."You" (the third character) will be in free roam, but Irish and Seth can be called in as companions (but not be played as), as well as other people. You will meet many of the characters from the original game including young Bonny Macfarlane, Sherriff, and even John Marston, but he will still be in his gang.

A big new part of the RDR prequel is the new gang system. You can join several different gangs, or if you think you are up for it you can join the law enforcement of certain towns, but this will restrict you on things you can do like robbing. Although you can rob it might cost you your hard earned career and possibly your life. You can also bring in a posse (up to 4-8 friends) to single player, technically co op now. You can take on certain side missions and a few campaign missions with your posse."

Well, that's enough internet for me tonight.

From reddit user DestinyCE, I think it's looking like a prequel.

Its obviously a prequel. RDR ended in 1914

Actually, it's a sequel. John Marston had a death-proof vest and survived the attack. He had to leave behind a fake body though, that could reanimate as a zombie if necessary.

So Three-Protagonists? Yes or No?

Most likely not. I believe Rockstar will stay true to their one protagonist and leave that three way bullsh*t in GTA V.

I sure hope R* didn't screw up when they dicked the Benz. Apparently he played a significant part in what made RDR so great. Fingers crossed that they know wtf they're doing.

I hope not as the story won't be as immersive or In-depth compared to one protagonist. It worked okay for GTA V but I don't think it should make a return. (I'm not going to be upset if it did). There should be two protagonists one for SP and one for Online. Also, as long as SP get the same love as Online I couldn't care less.

Bare with this post, but give it a shot, have an idea of what it could be:

it COULD be a game where you play as a different protagonist, during the same time you were playing as John Marston - now that is an interesting concept to explore - Remember how people knew it would be Johnny and Luis by the story of IV itself?

Now my question is, to all the people who played the whole RDR and know the story very well: If the guy in the middle of the posse pic, Dutch, were the protag, WOULD that be a feasible thing? Can you see a clear possibility for that, based on the previous games story? Or is it impossible that a story is told along side? Like, could Dutch have been a DLC character in the last game, could the old game have supported that? Where instead, now, it's a full game - which opens up another question if so:

IF that IS indeed possible, then could the old map become DLC, and that be a platform to deliver a "Red Dead Remaster" in the new engine, IE, John Marston's story playable on newgen, and PC for the first time, in this the base game, as it gets expanded with the old map/old map possibly already included? I say possibly already included because IF it coincides with red dead, you'd have to be able to go to those areas during the story.

I sure hope R* didn't screw up when they dicked the Benz. Apparently he played a significant part in what made RDR so great. Fingers crossed that they know wtf they're doing.

He played a role as leader of those tasked in FIXING it, apparently, after San Diego submitted a crap heap of poor code, Leslie led a North-based rescue mission, but it wasn't him doing all the work. The game didn't change, just got fixed, and was still kinda borked at launched requiring a couple patches to fix some problems that became funny memes and such.

That would actually be cool if your online character had a part in the main story.

After countless hours of independent research and scientific calculations I have determined we will be playing as... someone or someone(s)

I've had that idea for the next GTA. You create your character but play as your character for a pre determined story that is based around your character.

And just switch between online and SP

I'm not so sure. The one on the left most resembles John Marston, but a bit bulkier with thicker facial hair. The one to his right that everyone is saying is Javier Escuela looks more like a bearded Edgar Ross to me. Dutch? Maybe if you squint hard enough. Bill Williamson is the only one who looks REALLY close. But then again, put any bearded guy in similar clothes and a grainy silhouette will resemble him. I'm probably biased due to my preferences, but I'm thinking everyone is looking too hard into this and assuming these are characters we know. It very well may be that these are entirely new characters with an entirely new story set in the same world (different time?). That's not to say there won't be crossovers or references / easter eggs.
But it's all speculation either way until we see a trailer. No matter what it is, I can't wait.

Well, the game is called Red Dead Redemption 2. That means it has to connect to Red Dead Redemption somehow, meaning this is probably gonna be a prequel. There's quite a bit of good evidence showing that with the pictures and resemblance but you can never be too sure, just giving my two cents.

are you aware that in order for this to be a sequel, Marston would have to be dead and that the wild west would be long gone right?

I'm glad another major R* title which supports a multiplayer experience will release before the next GTA. It'll certainly help me to decide whether or not my loyalty continue with R* and their SP games which have been the biggest draw, not Online.

If RDR 2 suffers a similar fate by giving Online insane amounts of focus and relentlessly pursuing to make it better than exceeding fan expectations for SP post-release like V then I have to finally say Goodbye to Rockstar!

Exactly, if RDR 2 is Online Focus like how it was with GTA V, I am also considering saying goodbye to Rockstar.

No. But its still disappointing because now its a bigger priority to R*.

We'll be lucky if GTAVI has a dedicated SP mode at this rate

out of the 7 men, why is John (purported) the one that is looking away?

"Foreshadowing"? :) which to us, would be hindsight. Haha.

Now that I think about it, the logo really reminds me of this:

That makes sense, because you would have to think about it in order to be reminded of something.

GTA online is the most successful online game ever, and you guys are surprised there highlighting online in RDR 2?

Success of Online isn't an issue for me. The major concern is whether or not the developers are going to repeat the same approach of being too deeply involved and focused in one direction ( online ) investing all the resources to support Red Dead Online in every capacity, rather than the resources to work the same in making single player as excellent as they did in the past.

I don't want to read such statements anymore when asked about SP DLC and/or any future plans for improving SP.

Right now our focus is on GTA Online which has exceeded our expectations. We currently have all key members of the team that launched Grand Theft Auto V focused on supporting GTA Online in every capacity.

A singleplayer expansion for V would have been nice, but I think GTA V had a great singleplayer at launch and if they can deliver that again I'll be happy.

Off topic: on a bright side, Ubisoft is also counting big on the Online mode of Watch Dogs 2 unlike the first game, same with most games these days (Mafia 3 being the only exception and it already a big flop already coupled with bad reviews).

This is the heart of the problem, a very real problem.

The big developers spend literally tens of millions building a beautiful virtual world, and then they spend a bunch more millions producing a full single player story for it. More often than not, the single player story mode is a flop, and what do they have to show for all that work?

Given that reality, they design up front for online, so the kids can come home from school and spend from 3 PM until 3 AM shooting each other to sh*t, and buying overpriced cars. Makes a lot more economic sense for the developer.

As many have said on the GTA Forum, the low production cost of online is more like the low cost of producing reality TV, versus, the high cost of creating a masterpiece scripted drama / action series.

So much f*cking awesome. Over half of a decade waiting for this game. I want to cry. Finally something to look forward to. Yisss. Only about a year to go. Hope GTAO gets its fill, because this sh*t is going to be magnificent!

This is how I felt (along with probably 20M others) when the GTAV trailer dropped in November 2011.

Now look at us. Look at what they put us through. Not looking forward to that again. Seriously.
