Red Dead Redemption 2: Discussion & Speculation (Part 1)

Perhaps I'm pointing out the obvious, but if you look back at the order of the trailers for the first game, we got a teaser, then a trailer, and then the gameplay introduction video. Going by this logic, we should get a gameplay video next.

Right????

Everything is not going to be a video or trailer. We are going to have to read about it, analyze photos etc. There is alot more that goes I to marketing the game than trailers..

It's going to be a video with Sam and Dan Houser by a fireplace in bathrobes smoking pipes and talking about Red Dead Redemption 2

Not rdr 2 related but, on social club for GTA 5 if you look under missions completed, it has little thumbnails of from the game when it was in beta form. Pretty neat imo. Probably going to have this for RDR2 as well. Just something I noticed

I'm not saying we're going to get a trailer next. I'm saying the next trailer we get may be some gameplay.

Fingers crossed.

I think you meant to say, "There is a lot LESS that goes into marketing the game than trailers." Because Rockstar marketing is all about LESS.

It still chaps my hide that the GTAV development budget, $150M, was LESS than the obscene marketing budget, $165M. Must have been all those free posters and the little slide viewers, and maybe some cardboard kiosks at GameStop, because it sure wasn't spent on timely info releases during the two-year drought. Now here we are again, with the RDR2 info drought.

Pretty sure a large portion of it went towards TV commercials. They've already spent a few million on RDR2's marketing with TV alone.

Oh alright, I feel what your saying, but God knows when that will be. They have a release date, online details, story information, screenshots and more to go over. And imo we may not see more footage of RDR2 until late February or March.. if we're lucky. But im happy to see them using GTAO to stir up rdr2 anticipation and hype, Its f*ckin brilliant.

So you expect another delay? Cause no way you can be thinking that the marketing for a Spring release could start in March.

I feel like we'll definitely get something here within the next week or so. I don't know what that'd be maybe just some screenshots, but I feel like them releasing this treasure hunt was just the beginning of it. something to remind GTA players of rdr2s existence before they start the major marketing campaign.

This is an exciting time! We may just be enduring the final week(s) of no info.

Makes me giddy just thinking about it.

He's not saying the marketing will start in March...just that we may not see another trailer or any gameplay footage until March. Which is possible. GTAV came along in September but we didn't get the gameplay trailer until July 9th so if RDR2 comes along in May, it lines up, if you judge it by GTAVs marketing.

Then i misunderstood! Gameplay-footage... maybe. Another trailer... doubt it tbh. We'll see.

Exactly, if i had to take a wild guess, December: (Possible Release Date) Jan:(screenshots) Feb: (Story details) Mar: (Trailer 3 /Collectors details) April: (Online details/screenshots) May: (In-depth World & Protagonist details) etc..But yes I think from here on out we will be blessed with news and things at least once a month.

The holster animation is a cool touch even though there is no holster. lol

I like how the online character spins the Double-Action Revolver and you can hear that spinning sound. Somebody should make a gif of it.

To be honest the beauty of Rockstars promotion is the little amounts of information they release over a period of time lke with Rdr 2 so its making the appreciation of the game even higher. Hopefully ti will be really good which I am expecting and makes all this worth the wait. I think however it will be by near spring we get more major info relase but I could see small stuff getting released over the next few months or weeks.

Friend on Twitter pointed out that the PlayStation store has RDR2 listed. I can't remember if it was there before or you could search for it but sure enough it's there. You can't pre-order it though and it still has the old logo and announcement trailer so maybe it is old?

US store? It's been up for a while. It's not up on EU yet.

So, I just did the treasure hunt and got the revolver, then got the 50 headshots which was easy enough. This -- for some reason -- makes Red Dead Redemption II feel so much more real, like we just got a little taste of the game or something. I'm really excited for the coming months.

There's no plan at Rockstar fulfilling some strict protocol of what comes after what. It's not likely that we're going to strictly follow the RDR info release pattern, the only thing sure is that more in-depth information will be revealed as time progresses.

GTA IV had four trailers and screenshots only, absolutely no gameplay. But we know GTA V didn't follow that at all, GTA V had much more information released before it was released.

It's pretty obvious that R* has developed a marketing habit of assembling and releasing Gameplay trailers since Redemption. All games that followed (i.e. L.A.Noire, Max Payne 3 and GTA V) had at least two Gameplay trailers and it worked good for them. Redemption 2 will follow suit.

GTA V had three different tailers before the gameplay one though, it had the teaser trailer, the trailer 2 and the three characters trailer...

I hope the release date for Red Dead 2 is April, it's the perfect time and not too far away.

April 17th, perfect release date but Rockstar will probably release it May 15th or 22nd.

Worst case scenario we get a delay, which would be ridiculous because we've already had one.

I only think the delay is due to the PS4 Pro and One X enhancements.

I doubt a delay is needed just for pro and X versions. If a delay is needed, it's likely due to development issues.

Well of course they will show gameplay at some point, but Rockstargames isn't some weak ass developer like Ubish*t, that has show extensive GAMEPLAY over and over just to build anticipation. Yes there may be a gameplay trailer maybe even 2 of them, but a series? Idk about all that.

Euhm... I remember Rockstar doing a gameplay video series for Red Dead Redemption just as that "weak ass developer Ubish*t". Or should I say Rocksh*t?

was dead-eye mode available in RDR's multiplayer? I mean in combat with others?!

they certainly implemented bullet-time into Max Payne 3's multiplayer! (good god, it was the best/most satsifying gunplay ever.....EVER)

just sayin, they will bring slow motion (bullet time/dead eye) to Red Dead Online, won't they? or is this option just out of question due to the open world?

I wanna fire away, empty the rounds of my dual-wielded revolvers and then reload, ALL IN SLOW MOTION!
