Red Dead Redemption 2: Discussion & Speculation (Part 1)

I'm probably the only one not enjoying Godless. I'm four episodes in and the story has absolutely zero pace to it. It feels uninspired, like a mishmash of stories that might work well if they were a 90 minute film, stretched over seven episodes that have a painfully long run-time. It has the crisp, clean look of most Netflix originals because they opt to use digital over film cameras and the style suffers for it - looks good but has zero character. The only thing I can't fault is the Jeff Daniels character.

its just a real long movie stretched out over 7 ep, its meant to be binged one day. i like the format provides better character development than a 2hr movie

Whats your RDR or RDR2 confession(s)?

I have about 1200 in game hours played.. Lol

Time well spent (then again I had a lot of time on my hands.) I got the game on release and I was also in middle school so..

I had 550 hours recorded as far as I remember from my forgotten Social Club account. Most of it was spent in multiplayer co-op and gang shootout, oh, and how fun and satisfying these shootouts were.

For those wanting to watch a good miniseries prior to the release of RDR2, Lonesome Dove is extremely good. I think the whole series can be watched on YouTube or Netflix (at least in the US). You wont regret spending the time to watch it. Probably one of the greatest westerns ever made.

Whats your RDR or RDR2 confession(s)?

It was the first video game I'd played in about 20 years, the last being Stealth Fighter.

I still remember where I was, the gun I was using and who the other character was when I got my first online kill - Warthington Ranch, Schofield & Slick Nick Funtz. I was hooked big time, tried other games but RDR is king.

Killing people in Friendly Free Roam with the Explosive Rifle. (Never did it all the time). If a player is at a distance and you quickly flick the stick and nail the shot from afar it's possible to get the kill but the notification on-screen that pops up will just say "[player name] died". It doesn't actually say you killed this player.

Oh, (AND ONLY BECAUSE IT WAS A SNOW STORM but we never lost power). I grinded Gang Hideouts all weekend and got to Legend 3 Rank 50 during Rockstar's Triple XP weekends (which they did a lot back during the Red Dead Redemption days). Packed room + everyone getting along + Pike's Basin Gang Hideout = FUN! XP was raining down during those days! Ranking up in Red Dead Redemption was so easy. Everyone probably has a Zebra Donkey (Zonkey) now. lol

Well, everyone was mentioning Godless in here so I think I'm gonna give it a go this weekend. Let the binging commence!

I had never heard words "Red Dead Redemption" until my old roommate mentioned it.. as I was playing GTAV.. on my Xbox1... :bored:

I borrowed his RDR, played maybe 2hrs worth and couldn't stand the dated graphics. The game didn't even cross my mind again until Aug or so. I picked up shortly after, played through the entire story and now it's a favorite. I feel a bit like a fanboi because I'm "new" to RDR but I'm stoked its coming

So will Red Dead Redemption II be a PC port on console or a console port on PC?

Or will it even come to PC? I hope so. I love Steam.

Whats your RDR or RDR2 confession(s)?

Before I played RDR I thought John Marston was the protagonist of Red Dead Revolver and that Redemption and Revolver were connected and Redemption was the end of his story. John Marston and Red kinda looked the same to me in all of the artworks and screenshots at the time that was before I played the game and looked stuff up online and found out I was wrong.

I think the only reason RDR wasn't released on PC is because the game on consoles itself was a huge mess that was supossedly glued together in the last months by BENZ.I think R* just went ike ''f*ck it never going back to this mess of a game(after the DLC of course).

I don't see other reason for R* not to release it on PC.

I agree. Steam has a huge number of players and would probably be a loss if they didn't release it on PC.

I saw something earlier that said “Xbox One, PS4 and PC”

Now I have to try and remember where that was. I remember thinking, oh look, PC too

I think they WILL release it on PC. They just don't release it on the same date as Xbox One and PS4.

I bought GTA V for the Xbox 360 and later for PC. If I had known that it comes later for PC, I wouldn't have bought the Xbox version, i would have waited. To make sure that (people skipping console versions) does not happen, Rockstar leaves the PC version of RDR2 in the background and releases it later (like GTA V for XB 1, PS4 & PC). When we speak the language called "money"( which R* and Take 2 do), it makes sense, doesn't it?

That's just my theory.

Whats your RDR or RDR2 confession(s)?

It was probably my most hyped game ever, as a kid I loved old westerns with Clint Eastwood and John Wayne. And always wanted to be a cowboy (but honestly what boy doesn't at some point growing up) sadly this was impossible so the closest I could get were the very few western games out at the time my favorite of which was GUN but even with how great that game was at the time I still wanted more.

Fast forward a few years and I'm in high school and I hear that R* the guys behind my favorite video game franchise ever (GTA) were making another western game (I played revolver but didn't really care for it too much.) when i saw it was open world like GTA I lost my sh*t. Watched every trailer at release and then counted the days until it came out.

I played it on release day and my inner-child broke free hahah... The game was everything I always wanted in a western game but never fully got. I could finally "live out" the fantasy of being a cowboy I had since 4 years old.

That's why RDR holds such a special place in my heart.

And here I am almost 8 years later doing the same thing yet again. Funny ain't it? How history repeats itself.

I think your thinking is off just a little bit. :) Red Dead Redemption ran smooth on release (I have no idea what game you were playing). Rockstar San Diego never made Midnight Club: Los Angeles on PC either and that game wasn't buggy either..

It may have ran smooth on release, but it seems that the code itself was all over the place, so much that the game was almost cancelled.

As a young knucklehead, it was cops and robbers or cowboys and indians that always intrigued me for some reason. I can never forget when my mom got me my first train set, it was electronic with the fake smoke and the noises. Fast foward 20 plus years, i get my hands on it maybe a week after release and I dont think I went outside for about a week. I paid my younger brother for store runs and only left my room to sh*t shower and brush my teeth.

Riding into different areas and towns, revolver in hand held high slowly tapping the gallop button (A) to ride through the town checking everything out just itching for someone to give me a reason. Didnt matter where i went, i mimicked everything i saw & loved about old westerns. Craving for the duster jacket just to watch it move as i ride.

RDR2 has had me completely absorbed since it was teased, i watch both trailers almost everyday shamelessly. Admiring The small detail, the lighting dynamics, the music everything amazed everytime i view it. Yea im excited to play a few PlayStation exclusives but not as much as RDR2. My wife is sick of seeing the trailers, everyone who comes over i make sure i show it to them too idc who you are grandma, my kids friends, ups idgaf lol..Only a Rockstar game can do this to me..and Naughty Dog

why is everyone assuming that's arthur

His face does look a bit different there, but that's clearly Arthur's signature outfit. It's possible some of the footage seen in the trailer are from different builds. Edited by D T

Yeah, I think that's one of the main reasons why the multiplayer was so easy for people to hack, and probably why R* won't try to fix it. By doing so, there's a possibility that they could break it even more.

Well the 360 and PS3 were easy to hack but easily hackable multiplayer games come down to storing the important data and information client side, and not server side. What that means if a savvy player (or someone who downloads a very easy to use trainer) can edit these files real time and change things, like giving them infinite health, ammo, super speed, etc etc. The fix is storing this stuff on the server where they can't be edited but that's not practical for a lot of types of multiplayer games like FPS games in particular where it would just add to the latency.

Fully fledged MMO's now store pretty much everything on the server, which is why you don't see things like gold spawning or other random hacks in games like World of Warcraft and if you do it's generally exploiting an in-game glitch or something that gets quickly patched. Given what GTA:O has become and what RDR:O is likely to be, Rockstar would be really f*cking stupid not to change how this works for RDR2 and future games, but it's likely very difficult to patch out of GTA:O.

Thanks for this explanation, I hardly know anything about coding lol...

Finished ep 5 of Godless just now, still gold. This limited series is something, the characters are on point, the setting is solid, not great but works, can tell a little hindered by budget maybe but not a big deal.

The narrative may be kinda slow, but you gain a appreciation of the times, life back then. The main Character Roy is a good actor man, the character grow on you, even if it's a limited series, you know there is an end, kinda predictable but at same time it's not, keeps you intrigued.

But main thing, I can't help but think of RDR2 and how it will probably have these little subtle details of the era, the pastures, towns, ranches, native presence. Controlling Arthur and having to go on a ride across territories , lone man on the trial. And the gang scenes in the canon, that gave off the most vibes of rdr from trailer 2, where Arthur to was like "they chased us from the West". Makes me think about where the gang hideout will be, if you get to choose a spot, have to be strategic.

Good show so far, definitely making an impression on me, might have to add it to my top 5 list or so, we will see, to early but it's solid.
