Red Dead Redemption 2: Discussion & Speculation (Part 1)

Tall Trees Sasquatch

Seeing people on here talking about that night time shot reminded me that there are so many little details in the teaser that are incredible.

  • The night sky with the campfire lighting.
  • The birds resting on the fence.
  • The critters moving about in the grass.
  • Animals hunting each other even the little ones as presented by the trailer. To add to this the animations are incredible too, the little (Weasel? Stoat?) animal is grabbing his prey by the jaws and thrashing it about. In RDR they would attack their prey the same way they attacked you. Just imagine how grizzly bears and cougars will attack us if this is what a small critter does to it's prey!
  • Leaves falling off of the tree.
  • Dreamcatcher in said tree.
  • Building in the background looks to have been on fire but put out, with noticeable fire damage and smoke, in the shot with the dog and the vultures.
  • The dog covered in mud due to it's muddy surroundings.
  • Same dog barking at a group of vultures eating a corpse as one vulture raises it's wings in a display of dominance in an attempt to scare the dog while his friends eat. The animal AI is already blowing my mind. Hopefully it's not just for the trailer.
  • The Vulture plucking a string of flesh off of the corpse.

That's all I've got for now.

It's not that we didn't see that,it's that it's not even an animation in the game.I've literally never seen anyone get thrown out.

They aren't trying to trick anyone about features by using cutscene footage, a story trailer will obviously feature cutscene footage. Most games that are story based will have trailers based on cutscenes.

I can't wait to go nightclubbing in GTA V. Anybody else think we might see Luis return? Look at the way light reflects from the palm tree. This game is going to be amazing!

I still wonder, where did they take the first trailer for gta v?.......where it from the game or some CGI?

It was definitely recorded in-game, but they knowingly used advanced lighting tech that would never make it to final release.

Yes, none of those animations are present in the game files. The scene was mocapped purely for that trailer.

So, just some last minute poster-based speculation that is bound to be irrelevant within the next 30 hours:

Looking at the seven figures, I just took note of their positions for the first time. Now these might, of course, not mean anything; just where they looked the best artistically. However, I've begun to think that there's some sort of pattern, as so...

eGDDjd2.jpg

The four circled, spread out evenly, appear to me to be standing on the same level of ground. Three of these figures have most popularly been concluded to be John, Dutch and Bill. The final guy is not so identifiable, but he looks to be a native American and we know that Dutch had a particular fondness for the native culture. Could it be that this positioning indicates their being as part of the same gang?

We know that, going off the trailer as well, these seven are not the same as those who rode together in the final shot. And when you look at the three not circled, they don't look like gang members. To me each resemble a western archetype: the centre guy a cowboy; the right-hand guy a gunslinger (maybe Landon Ricketts?); the left-hand guy a lawman.

Going into the trailer tomorrow, I'm going to go out and say that the four circled, on the same ground level, are part of Dutch's gang. The three not circled meanwhile are the game's protagonists. The guys on the left and right are definitely not part of the gang, meanwhile, the figure in the centre could go either way in that regard; perhaps torn between different worlds?? I don't know; that's just my final guess!!

I will be shocked if that's not John Marston, Dutch Van Der Linde and Bill Williamson in that artwork.

If it's so easy to make out john bill and dutch why try to conceal they're faces? 🤔 things aren't as they may seem

Graphics and game features change massively throughout a game's development, it's far more likely that they had to downgrade the graphics for optimisation purposes after that build than it is they were deliberately misleading you.

The thing that jumped out at me, once you added the circles, was how much taller man in the middle appears. I noticed it before but even more so now. He's definitely the one that intrigues me most, dead staring us right in the eye as if saying "are you cats ready for me?"

I also like the idea of them not all being part of the same gang.

Of course. I didn't mean he was 3 ft taller than the rest.

Who cares if RDR2 will have online focus. As long as the campaign doesn't suck i'm happy. Also problably an unpopular opinion here: I play the sh*t out of online. I like it more now then before since i have friends to play with for the first time. I never bought a sharkcard and I'm still having fun in the game. I can't wait for RDR2 online!

Not me personally but I think that's what people are worried about - that they'll put more effort into Red Dead Online which means less focus on the single-player. I can't see that happening at all though, they'll both be well fleshed out.
