Red Dead Redemption 2: Discussion & Speculation (Part 1)

I guess everyone is so hyped for NBA 2K18!

EDIT: Zelnick talked about synergy between Take-Two's labels good to see that taking shape now. Rockstar Games' GTA influenced 2K Sports' NBA 2K. Cool!

Maybe RDR2 will have a basketball minigame!

Geez the info droughts right now is for real!

When Rockstar does an info drought, it makes the Dust Bowl look like a tropical monsoon. If we were desert animals that need game info to survive, we'd be a little pile of bones and some patches of fur blowing in the desert wind by now.

A few weeks or so™

I wonder if the R* support guy who wrote this is still working there?

I think it's just assumed that no self-respecting adult would spend their money on something like that. Not tryna diss anybody here if you do but I think buying those shark cards are insane, unless you just got money to blow.

Probably casuals or people that are too busy IRL can only play 1 or 2 hours a week and don't have the time to grind jobs for GTAO money.

Yeah, that 6-12 year old demographic is so busy, diligently doing their homework and their science projects, they don't have time for the grind. So it's gotta be shark cards.

It doesn't really matter if you're a little kid or not. If you're buying shark cards, you're part of the problem. Since the release of Red Dead Redemption, and maybe even before that, R* have proven that they're capable of doing more than just GTA. The only way I can see anyone being content with just playing GTAO forever is if that was your first game.

I've been meaning to ask this question for awhile, not specifically to you, but you brought up the subject.

Is there any proof that shark cards are actually bought by kids, by a (significant) majority? Or is it just a meme?

Don't know If it's really the big majority but given that most GTAO players are probably under 25 years of age I think they also make up a big part of the shark card buyers. And If they don't buy the cards themselves they just ask their parents. They pay for it but in the end the kid (teenagers under the age of 18 can also be considered kids imo) is the one who wanted it and made sure that Rockstar's cash cow keeps rolling. The same situation with EA and their mobile and sports games btw. A very young audience who plays games (FIFA as an example) packed with microtransactions.

Just my opinion tho... But It certainly would be interesting to have official numbers.

The parents rationalize it - "Well, if he weren't spending 8 hours after school every night, screaming and raging and insulting and cursing at his online video game, he'd be out on the streets, getting into real trouble. This is better, and it costs less, too."

It doesn't matter who buys Sharkcards, as a system Sharkcards isn't the worst thing Rockstar could do in terms of monetisation in GTA - anyone who's dipped into the world of F2P on PC knows as much, there is far far worse ways they can monetise the game. The issue is that Rockstar has set the in-game prices of content and the rate you can earn money at a level where you are pushed towards buying them.

They could balance it so you could earn a reasonable amount of money in a span of a few hours, meaning players who can only manage a couple of hours a week can earn enough money to enjoy the new cars and content, but they choose not to. And that is the real issue with them.

There's code in the last-gen version of the game indicating that the DLC "chooser" present in that version was gonna have cosmetic DLC's with price tags. Now think. It could've been much worse.

It would be nice to have our character with the option to have a cigar in his mouth like the old Clint Eastwood movies.

Take-Two will be 25 years old in few months..And 20 being a Publicly-traded company. That same year, Rockstar turns 20.

So like emotes in GTA online were you choose how you want to walk or your facial expression smile, happy or angry?

I'dlove Rockstar to give us more options when it comes to costumisation.

Like different hairtyles, beards, different parts of clothes, gloves, glasses(I don't remember that being a thing at that time) and so on.

But to have all that match the style of Western.

Referring to the previous page discussion about demographics buying shark cards, the idea of kids being a majority a) of video game players or b) paying for microtransactions are both just memes. The average age for video game players is in the thirties, with the entire teenage demographic making up a lot less than a third. The majority of whales, people who spend lots of money on microtransactions (like hundreds or thousands of dollars worth for a single game) are adults, in their twenties or thirties - which makes sense since they're the ones with money to throw around, whilst teens mostly have time.

And yes, that's not parents buying microtransactions for their kids, it's adults buying them for themselves.

The only reason people throw around the idea of kids in video games is that it's kind of a meme at this point. It's a lot easier to remember a high pitched voice whining over a mic than it is all the more normal adult voices and all the people who never speak. Games that are usually referred to as being overrun with kids like CoD are no different; majority of the playerbase being younger adults.

It's just memes all the way down.

The average age for video game players is in the thirties

You do have some good points and this might be true as a whole if you look at some statistics and studies taken over the last few years. Then the avarage video game player is in its early 30s indeed. But when it comes to GTA players (since we're specifically talking about GTAO players and shark card sales) the average age is definitely under 30.

Let's take a look at the 2016 forum census. It seems like the big majority of forum members (>80%) is not older than 30. And half of them is not older than 20. So probably between 30 and 40% of the forum members who participated in that poll are in that "kid range" (everyone under 18). No doubt that the biggest percentage of shark card buyers are adults, i agree with you on that. And people like to exaggerate (me included). But I still think that the number of kids and teens buying them is nothing to sneeze at (<-- is that English?).

That was a fantastic video..Anyway it crazy that one company own GTA, Red Dead, and Mafia. And if they ever buy Koch/Deep Silver they will own Saints Row. And lastly, RDR Online being exact like GTA Online will make Take-Two an ultimate online king!

EDIT: Multiple Protagonists is a Big Thing Now thanks to R*

Amen:

Haha just saw this and instantly came here. I agree with the FPS mode, it was a good idea except they totally f*cked it up because they did nothing else but to put the camera at the head of the character. And that's just not how it works. If they do optimize it though, I could really see myself riding my horse and looking at the great countryside in FPS mode.

What i don't want but fear could be the harsh reality with RDR2 is, it will be a GTAV 2.0 . Granted GTAV nailed and failed in certain aspects of game. (Story & Online) i would like RDR2 to seperate itself from GTA a bit. I hope R* live by innovation and not replication.

But on another note, When i hear "The games vast and atmospheric world will also provide the foundation for a brand new online multiplayer experience" off the top i think of online being a a huge focus, but not to the point where single player lacks in quality or depth. But more like the online aspect actually could be apart of the story in someway idk lol. i may be thinking about it too deep.

It's funny but I don't think R* even mentioned a multiplayer component for GTA V until the Q&A we got before the first gameplay.

The fact that the part "The games vast and atmospheric world will also provide the foundation for a brand new online multiplayer experience." was there right from jump really makes you wonder.

Actually multiplayer was mentioned in the V announcement post on their newswire: http://www.rockstargames.com/newswire/article/19471/grand-theft-auto-v-official-announcement.html

"A bold new direction in open-world freedom, storytelling, mission-based gameplay and online multiplayer, Grand Theft Auto V focuses on the pursuit of the almighty dollar in a re-imagined, present day Southern California."

Yeah. When R* revealed GTA V they just wrote "A bold new direction in open-world freedom, storytelling, mission-based gameplay and online multiplayer". In 2011 they probably never thought themselves that the multiplayer would outshine the single player and become the "main part" of GTA V.

Its sounds alot bigger than just "Online multiplayer" if u ask me.

lets not forget the job listings either..

Well V's multiplayer was originally going to be smaller so maybe the RDR2 post just indicates something similar to GTA Online basically i guess? Not a big surprise though. With GTAO's success, RDR2's MP will be similar to it.

Idk, just the way R* have worded it this time around seems different to me. I really wonder how "brand new" it's going to be though.

All I can think of is GTA Online, but in the wild west.

I really hope they don't do something stupid and combine the SP and online together and add online co-op in SP just to make it different from V and GTA online.

In regards to the WatchMojo video; I completely agree with the less restrictive missions part. In recent years I've been feeling that Rockstar's mission structure is too linear, and I'd like to see more open-ended missions that really play to the strengths of an open world game.

There's kind of a disconnect between being in this massive world unrestricted, and then you get locked into a mission where you're going down a linear path of set objectives. Think MGSV but just more focus.

"The games vast and atmospheric world will also provide the foundation for a brand new online multiplayer experience."

Take out the PR buzzwords and you get: "The games open world will also provide the foundation for a new online multiplayer mode".

Sounds like exactly what they did with GTA V. It's the same full SP campaign + progression based multiplayer.
