Most of this thread is just forced speculation thats on repeat.

It definitely doesn't help when people try to force discussion. Downtime is normal, we have absolutely no news on RDR2.

 

As for the RDR2 forum being at the top, we're a GTA based forum, when RDR was announced and released, we only had the thread in the Gaming section. It still picked up some steam. Nowadays we have sections dedicated to Rockstar Games. As RDR2 and RDOnline news pour in, we'll see what we can do, but don't expect this to be moved at all (and if so, very temporarily), we're a GTA centric forum trying to focus a bit on Rockstar's other games, especially Red Dead this time because it's their second most played game. Let's wait until we have more news, it's normal it's all dead now.

You realize R* has over a 1,000 employees right? People come and go all the time at game studios, nothing unique to R*. This whole 'x amount of key people left' is blown out of proportion. A lot of them have been at R* since the GTAIII days, that's a long time to be with a company in this day and age. People (in senior positions) have worked alongside those leads ('key people') for years, they can take over just fine.

For the first time since Rockstar's inception, we've gone 4 years without a new game. All those devs leaving clearly had a big impact. People in high positions don't come and go all the time, otherwise they wouldn't have had so many guys from GTA3 days. But I agree this isn't unique to Rockstar; Valve currently has the same problem. In recent years, tons of HL1 guys have left Valve and we haven't seen a new release from them in 4 years as well. Large amounts of longtime employees suddenly leaving a company is never a good sign, as both scenarios have displayed. Edited July 26, 2017 by D T

I think the forum has agreed that this man seen in the trailer and some screenshots is the protagonist.

At least that's what I understood from the discussion here.

I'm beginning to wonder if there's no real main protagonist in the sense like John Marston and it'll just be a player created character, mute or not, like GTA Online based on TT recent comments.

 

An open world where your gang members can be you friends or AI and the chance to take your character in a public session for PVP seamlessly so online and single player are no longer separate entities.

I honestly wouldn't like that... But I can definitely see it happening. Maybe they'll give the protagonist a dynamic voice like in Fallout 4 where you can choose your voice pitch, type, and your gender.

That would result in very low quality storytelling. And it would be such an un-Rockstar thing to do. Sure, it'll definitely happen in Online but that's it.

Player created main characters have nothing to do with the quality of the story telling if done right. It does however allow you to play havoc with immersion and mood by creating a monstrous-looking character that looks completely out of place in cut scenes and what not. Rockstar traditionally have been very restrictive with that type of thing.

 

There was a rumour a good while back now though that said RDR2's campaign will be co-op and involve running a gang, so who knows.

This. I mean, I'm not gonna bash the theory/idea whatever but I just want to play as a protagonist/protagonist's with voice acting and all. It would be interesting however.

This wasn't rumored by the same people who said GTA V would have co-op in Single Player was it?

Having a mute character just makes story progression harder to develop and awkward.

 

A customizable character that actually has recorded lines would be weird, I think Rockstar would rather stick to a main character with some sort of physical identity for the main story.

Was anybody else hoping that the main character would be Jack Marton (John Marston Son) with some plot to avenge his father death?

 

Reason i thought of this because John Marston death at the end of RDR so unless RDR 2 is set in the years before RDR kind of doesn't make sense that John comes back from the dead especially since we see him dead and his grave.

 

Unless i'm missing something, I haven't been able to keep up with the RDR2 Info mill as much as i wanted too
