Ofcourse great it's confirmed but I had hoped bit more native theme, this seems old fashioned spaghetti western style again

Take a look at Call of Juarez. People went mad when the third installment, The Cartel, brought the series to the present day and after that they made Gunslinger which was set in wild west again and it was a success. Personally, I'd prefer an old good spaghetti western too. Also, this is what makes it different from GTA.

Max Payne, which is literally the name of a protagonist, is a character-centric game that was created to tell the ups and down of the life of a New York detective. It cannot be compared to a game (Red Dead) that deals with a large and dedicated genre (Western). You don't simply leave all the stories and archetypes that you can tell just to revisit a single story and a character from 7 years ago. It's not like we get a new Red Dead game every 3 or 4 years just to leave all the possibilities and simply accept feeding our nostalgia.

 

WE WANT A NEW EXPERIENCE AFTER ALL THIS DAMN TIME

It's been speculated for months that this game would be a prequel and until this thread, and your repeated posts about it, most people seemed excited about that idea - not upset at all.

 

And FWIW there are plenty of ways for them to explore other tropes and themes of the Old West/Western genre while still telling more of Marston's story. It will surely have a mostly-different cast, and be set in a mostly-different place (if the leaked map is real, or even if it's not). It'll be probably 10+ years earlier, too. There is lots of room to get into all kinds of stuff that wasn't in Redemption in any way, shape or form.

I'm still investigating hats and have another similarity between the saddlebags and hat, I think it's John Marston.

I was actually thinking John on far left.

 

I don't think we ever see Dutch in a hat in RDRedemption, so difficult to be sure - but I suspect that's him in the middle.

The idea of it representing Online isn't a bad one, but I very much doubt they would lead off the promotion of a sequel to a game that was mostly renowned for its single player story, with an image that references multiplayer instead. So no, I don't think so. This is something from the story, and until we find out more, Dutch's gang seems like the most plausible thing to me. Not 100% certain by any means, but certainly not off the table and impossible, either.

Another possibility just occurred to me. If (emphasis on "if") this is a prequel and that image is Dutch's gang, maybe Marston will be in it - but not a playable character. Maybe we would be someone else in the gang, with a different personal story, and just witness what happens to Marston from the sidelines. Who knows? Could be interesting.

But seriously, why are people getting so worked up about Online? I know GTA Online is both a success and a broken failure, but what if RDO (or Red Dead Real-time to keep the RDR thing going? I dunno and I don't care tbh) turns out to be a success? Rockstar had 3 years to work and improve on the mistakes and problems with GTA Online so maybe this time things will be different. I'm not big into online aspects of games, but I still give them a try and see if they're fun or not. If I don't like it, I don't play it - not losing any sleep over its existence.

Since the Texas Rangers were formally named in what, the early 1870's that is a real possibility. I think there is room for a story there. I'm just real glad it won't be a true sequel to RDRedemption. I hated one thing in that game. Marstons sons voice when he was older.

 

I hope there is an online component to it like we have with GTAO, and a creator tool too. Probably be the only way to get more heist. Like big fancy train robberies.

 

I think shark cards will be replaced with skins. Snake, wolf, beaver, bear, etc....

Player customization (outfits, shirts, pants, hats, boots, bandanas, etc...)

 

Gunsmith stores all across the vast open-world (purchase weapons and ammo)

 

Stores

 

Bounties (in the western way... What if players in your Free Roam session have their character's face posted up on a wall on a poster in a small town and you could choose which one to hunt down)

 

And much more but in the Red Dead way! I'm all for it

Marston was an outstanding character so I would be fine with him as the protagonist again (+ we barely saw much of his gang, they have a lot more potential).

 

Still someone completely new would be really good too (coud add some cameo's from the RDR cast).

O RLY? Because it seems to me like the only people getting worked up are the ones crying that we "deserve" a completely new story and character, and the ones saying they "know" that this won't be a prequel. The rest of us are just hyped and speculating for fun.

 

I'll be happy with this game no matter when it's set or who it's about. Young John Marston, cool. Or any new character, that's cool, too. But I can't say the same for the people who are losing their minds over the possibility of a prequel.

I'm catching zero feelings, son. Though I appreciate you "making assumptions about other's state of mind" and saying that I am. Personally, when I read someone say that "WE WANT A NEW EXPERIENCE AFTER ALL THIS DAMN TIME" (quote from Jabalous), that sounds a lot more like "feelings" than anything I've said.

 

As for people acting like their speculations are facts, again: I haven't seen anyone doing that of the people who are hypothesizing it's a prequel and interpreting the image as Dutch's gang. Feel free to cite some posts if you believe otherwise. But I have been told point-blank by at least one guy (Jabalous, again) that it definitely WON'T be a prequel and that the protagonist will definitely be a new character. So which side here is really acting like their speculation are facts?

 

Basically, I'm a little tired of people who come here just to sh*t on somebody else who is trying to have fun aboard the hype train. If you don't like speculation and guesswork in the build-up to an announcement, kindly go sit in a dark corner and mutter to yourself. The rest of us are having a good time.
