Red Dead Redemption 2: Discussion & Speculation (Part 1)

I can't wait until they release the actual name of the game and all of the people calling it Red Dead Redemption 2 are going to look like idiots. It would be even better if they just went with Red Dead 3

You really don't get the point of the word "speculate," do you?

I am aware that its speculation but you're drawing that speculation just because the poster has multiple people in it. So its based off nothing

It's based off of him looking at the picture and wondering about what's in it.

Like everyone else is doing.

Fine.

But I still don't get how he drew that conclusion

Huh? No one actually thinks the title is going to be Red Dead Redemption 2 - you realize that, don't you?

It's just idle thinking and wondering. Chill out.

when did rockstar made a direct sequel/prequel for a game?

(dont mention TLAD, TBOG, they are extensions for IV)

I also want it to be a new RD game

but for now, nothing is really 100% sure.

Well, Red Dead Redemption is technically a sequel, as are all of the GTA games in the franchise after the first

Max Payne is a trilogy.

Manhunt 1 and 2.

Midnight Club games.

Smugglers Run 1 and 2.

GTA III, LIberty City Stories. Vice City, Vice City Stories...

I mean, do you want me to go on?

Okay, let's do this

MP not a R* franchise to begin with.

so not comparable

VCS, LCS, same as GTA3/VC

they are pretty much extensions games (meant for PSP)

so new RD will an extension from RDR? years later, on PS4?

if it's a brand new game,

new engine and so on, it's not an extension from the previous storyline

MIDNIGHT CLUB??? are serious?? are we really comparing TPS games with a driving game? be serious.

Are YOU serious?

sequel

ˈsiːkw(ə)l/
noun
  1. a published, broadcast, or recorded work that continues the story or develops the theme of an earlier one.
    "the sequel to Home Alone"
    synonyms: follow-up, continuation
"the film was successful enough to inspire a sequel"
    • something that takes place after or as a result of an earlier event.
"this encouragement to grow potatoes had a disastrous sequel some fifty years later"

All of their games continue the themes of previous games in the franchise, even the ones that are about cars going broommmmmmmm along the road.

Continues the story or develops the themes of an earlier one.

So, how is every single GTA game after the first not a sequel?

This isn't really the place to discuss this, so just take a bit of a breather and accept that you are wrong.

Signatures are dumb anyway.

using same characters/storyline sounds like it could be either

a remaster

or a gta online dlc based on the oldwestRDR

I don't see R* making a direct prequel/sequel from a previous game

if i had to guess -AT THIS POINT- i'd say it's PS4 remaster of RDR

BUT

they just announced retro comp for RDR on Xbox one already... so why giving seperate treatment for almost the same thing?

so it might be, a super exclusive GTAO DLC "wild wild west red dead

And then there is still people like this....

don't be such a fool, for goodness sake

Am I too late to this thread to speculate that the silhouette of people is to signify RDR:Online?

You're drawing that conclusion just because there are multiple people on the poster? Cmon man.

Yeah, you got a problem with that kido?

Soooo R* ups the ante with 7 protagonists?

They're most likely not all playable

I'm wondering the same thing. Except about the part where people are concluding that it's Dutch's gang.

VCS, LCS, same as GTA3/VC

they are pretty much extensions games (meant for PSP) (content were light to be honest)

(same storylines prequel/sequel - like TLAD and BOGT - so "enhanced DLCs" NOT WORTH A WHOLE GAME)

Why? Just because they've approached things that way with GTA doesn't mean Red Dead has to be that way. The gap between Redemption and a new sequel will be a lot less significant than the gap between the 3D and HD GTA games. Also, Marston is a far better character with a far better story than anyone in the GTA universe, even Niko. He's the only one I would consider deserving of a continuation of his story.

Not sure if it's what Spider meant, but I imagine there's gonna be a few more teaser images that build off of the previous image, with the last one being the complete image and indicating the release of the trailer

A continuation of the story of a dead man? We all enjoyed Marston's story and there's absolutely no reason to revisit events that happened 6 years ago from now and 7 years when the game is released. Rockstar will deal with Red Dead the same way the do with GTA, that is, new stories and characters with every new game.

While part of me wants to agree with you there's already quite a good deal of evidence that these seven are Dutch's gang - looking at the way they're dressed, they do look like the others we saw in RDRedemption.

The idea of a prequel, to explain all the stuff we went through later in John's life, is incredibly appealing and as he's almost as well loved, if not more, a character as, say, Max Payne, who we've been following for three games, I'd say the chances are fairly high for a prequel.

But, y'know, there wasn't much variety in clothing back then so it really could be anyone.

Call me boring as sh*t but I'm interested to see what the UI will be like.

Please let it be the return of circular mini-map. There's so many games using the box these days, it's getting out of hand.

Minor thing to bring up, but I'm all out of exciting speculation for the week.

Two! One without silhouettes as well!

But yes, this doesn't give away much, really does it? Looking at this picture of seven silhouettes we can definitely confirm that there will be planes, drones, a Mary Poppins flying umbrella mini game and, of course, yoga.

Not boring at all.

Im hoping to see the return of the circular map myself. rectangle always looked cluttered to me on GTAV

Without knowing the proposed story of a hypothetical prequel, you have no idea if there's any reason to revisit him or not. And please stop talking like you know things that you don't. There's no reason to do so and it's just gonna be extra-embarrassing for you if you turn out to be wrong.

I'm still investigating hats and have another similarity between the saddlebags and hat, I think it's John Marston.

Max Payne, which is literally the name of a protagonist, is a character-centric game that was created to tell the ups and down of the life of a New York detective. It cannot be compared to a game (Red Dead) that deals with a large and dedicated genre (Western). You don't simply leave all the stories and archetypes that you can tell just to revisit a single story and a character from 7 years ago. It's not like we get a new Red Dead game every 3 or 4 years just to leave all the possibilities and simply accept feeding our nostalgia.

WE WANT A NEW EXPERIENCE AFTER ALL THIS DAMN TIME
