Next week seems like the most likelihood we would hear something. If nothing comes to pass and we enter June with nothing then the veil will drop at E3.

They've done E3 many times. GTAV Next-Gen announcement, GTA IV annoucement etc etc. Besides, Sony and R* have an extensive marketing deal so it'll definitely show up there.

Yup, we should get proper news and trailer(s) before any potential delay, which I doubt to happen given how confident they were when they showed Fall 2017 mark in a first trailer, something that didn't happen since GTA IV's first trailer. Edited May 12, 2017 by Jabalous

I've lost count how many times I've read "Rockstar don't do E3". Let's just get our facts straight though, because they DO do E3, they just don't do it themselves. In other words, they don't have their own conferences say like Bethesda or EA and we know that'll never happen as it's not their style, but they DO allow MS or Sony to buy the rights to market their games, which opens avenues to us seeing some kind of promotion at these game conventions.

 

The only very obvious reason they don't show up every year is because they don't have games coming out every year like most companies these days. It's been 4 years since their last game, 7 years since RDR2, they have no reason to have announcements there every year.

 

So onto what we already know:

 

GTA IV announced in 2006 at Microsoft conference = MS had future marketing deal and exclusive DLC

 

GTA V next gen platforms announced with unseen footage in 2014 at Sony conference = Sony had commercial / marketing rights to promote PS4

 

So we can (quite rightly) speculate that as Sony have already announced that they have exclusive online DLC first for RDR2 then = they've bought marketing rights for the game which = RDR2 *could* very well appear at their 2017 E3 conference. It's not confirmed, because Rockstar might not be ready to show it yet, or it could simply be just a replay of the trailer we've already seen and a mention about the deal we already know about, however we should definitely not rule out the chance of it appearing in some form.

All my nightmares would become true if during the PlayStation presser they show the first trailer for RDR2 again and mention the exclusive deal and then that was it. If that's their plan they better don't mention RDR2 at all during the press conference ... would be extremely disappointing to just see the debut trailer again.
